A3 Golden Boy Jed Larson Convicted of Poaching

Recommended Posts

The notorious A3 guide Jed Larson finally went down for what many suspected he had been doing for years. Jed took a client onto the White Mountain Apache Reservation and poached a trophy bull elk in Sep of 2015. Another hunter noticed Jed and his client were always hunting near the rez line and one day noticed some crows close to the boundary on the rez side. Suspecting something suspicious he called law enforcement who found the carcass of a caped out bull elk. Field photos of the bull elk from Jed and the hunter Matthew Tonioli matched up with where the carcass was located. The bull was confiscated and for the most part the whole incident was kept quiet. Unfortunately for those expecting quick justice the case remained quiet for nearly 5 years.

During these 5 years A3 guide services continued and continues to this day to support and employ the poacher Jed Larson knowing exactly what he had done. Why? Because having someone that can find big animals to hunt is more important than ethical hunting. Bottom line A3 was perfectly fine with what their salaried employee did as long as the public didnt know about it. It is expected they may try and distance themselves now that it is blowing up in their face but the damage to their reputation is already done. It will only get worse as news spreads about their acceptance of unethical hunting behaviors of their guides.

Now for the most sickening part of the case. Jed was finally charged in November of 2019. The prosecutor in charge of the case in the beginning drug his feet on pushing this through the court system. Recently that prosecutor retired and a new prosecutor was assigned his cases. Due to the heavy case load on the new prosecutor she charged Jed with just 1 misdemeanor Lacey act violation out of the many crimes he committed (including felonies) and slapped down a quick plea deal. Jed took the deal and ended up on probation for 2 years. Jed convinced the judge that guiding was his only way to support his family and if he lost his hunting and guiding privileges he would lose everything. He convinced the court that he was so desperate to provide for his family (his wife is a registered nurse) that the judge didnt take his guiding or hunting rights away. Was he fined? No, because he was too poor to be able to pay a fine he claimed. The court documents show he will have to pay restitution to the tribe of no more than $23,000 which is the price of the tag from the tribe.

So in the end Jed walks away laughing with his buddies that he got away with committing several major federal wildlife crimes while he gets to keep hunting and guiding.

What he and A3 guide service cant change is the cloud that will forever be over their heads from past and future animals. How many times has he done it and not been caught? How many other unethical guides does A3 support? We will never know for sure but their actions in this case should tell everyone what they need to know about their attitude towards the law and wildlife- That money and big antlers will always be above all else.

The irony here is hard to overlook.

For the record, I wish poaching was punished with jail time, for everyone.

This is absolutely mind blowing ! Who violates the Lacey act and gets off with probation and keeps their hunting and guiding privileges ? How could A3 condone his actions ?

Took a plea deal, just like Blake Owens. Sounds familiar.

Casey I know you are a little slow man but it’s not even close to the same thing !

It would appear that everyone that has posted so far feels like it’s ok for Jed to guide a hunter on the Rez ? For a group of guys that claim to have ethics im disappointed ☹️

So do you think it’s right that A3 keeps Jed on payroll and  he kept his guides license and hunting privileges?

Ummmm, do you have any clue as to why???

You are the single worst possible person on the planet to post this.  Seriously!!!  Even worse than if Blake had posted it himself.

As stated above, if you can't see the irony in it, I........ lol   I don't know what to tell you.
