Knife Makers

Recommended Posts

I have a couple old files out of my grandfathers tools and hunting knives I thought would be a great way to put them too use. Not sure how old they are or if they are good for knives.

Does anyone here make knives out of old files?

My buddy uses leaf springs but he’s got a forge

Files are mediocre knife blades, they don't hold edges well. Files have a fraction of the carbon knife material like 5160 spring steel has.

I have found Esse knives to one of the best knives made today. If I gift the knife and they break the blade you can send it in and they will replace it with no receipt needed, they also come razor sharp out of the box.

I agree 5160 would be better. But if you are wanting a family keep sake and not a hardcore chopper, I think it’s a cool idea.  I have a forge and a hammer, but haven’t turned it on in years.  Read up on it and I will loan you my forage and hammer.
