Best way to protect mounts from bugs?

Not sure how to prevent bugs but had good luck bagging mounts with mothballs, killed the bugs.  You will need to move the mounts outside due to odor issues.  Kept the mounts bagged for a couple weeks.

Hotshot no pest strips available at lowes.  They release a chemical vapor that leaves no residue. You could throw one in a trash bag then wrap it around the mount.

Birds & horned game if the sheaths aren't cleaned well are the worst for getting buggy. Some taxidermists crush mothballs and put them in the horn sheaths before gluing them back on. I've never had a problem with an antlered critter.

I know a bird taxidermist that will bomb his shop once a year for good measure.  I had an outbreak and he suggested bagging the turkey fan and setting off one of those little bombs inside the bag.  A lot like bats (and rats) -- you hardly ever see the bugs but you often see the left over remnants.

The first thing I lost was a turkey fan from the first one I killed in AZ waaaaayyy back in the early '60s. I made it myself and didn't pay enough attention to getting all the meat off the end.
