TRAIL CAM BAN UPDATE 3/17/21

Necessary evil. The VAST amounts of money those tags generate goes a long way in this state. All the drinkers we hunt, all the land the AES Sawyers clear, all the old barbed wire that's torn down, all the dirt tanks that get mucked out... all of that happens with the money from those commissioners tags.

This is what we are told all the time. It would help if the money was transparent and for the public to see exactly where this money goes.

Freedom of information act. We a citizens have every right to know where that money goes. It takes a little effort but you can file a Freedom of Information act request and they HAVE to show you where it goes. Did you know it's the same with G&F trailcams? You can do the same thing and be able to see every picture they get on a specific trailcam. It's public record and you have the right to see it.

I agree with this but it would go a long way if they would just publish it. I would think guide services would push for this as it would help alleviate some of the “greed” animosity toward guides.

Game and Fish has no authority to ban trail cameras if it doesn't involve the take of wildlife. This is complete nonsense if they think they can fairly enforce this proposal. Not happening. The best they can hope for is people to cower and comply. Any proposal that is not comprehensive involving every land management agency in the State is just making things a bigger mess.

Can you explain why they do not?

Thanks,

Eddie

Here, I’ll do it for him. G&F only controls the game in the state not the land nor what people do on the land. Therefore they can’t ban cameras on public land, only regulate the “taking” of game. They will have to prove the camera aided in the take after the fact. Going to be hard to prove.

Im actually surprised the anti cam people have not pushed this through the forest service. Oops did I let the cat out of the proverbial bag....

Because it doesn't say anything in here about taking pictures. It is a broad interpretation until you start talking about Take which is defined as pursuing, shooting, hunting, fishing, trapping, killing, capturing, snaring, or netting wildlife. Wildlife includes all wild mammals, wild birds, reptiles, amphibians, mollusks, crustaceans and fish. Visit our license page.

Unfortunately... the outfits booking those hunts could give a rip about animosity. They already know you won't book a hunt with them. How is you not liking guides going to keep them from booking auction tags? Or any hunt for that matter?  The only outfits that are hurt by public perception are the ones that get caught breaking the law.

Completely agree, they don’t care what the majority of other hunters think of the m which is the problem. They give the rest of the guide services a bad rap which is who I would think should be the most upset. But money talks and the rest of us walk. Just gives a black eye to the hunting community period and ammunition for the anti’s.

Thanks for your replies to my question.

What a hawt mess this is with G&F trying to control something they have no authority over.

Eddie

Thats not true that they have no authority, they do have the authority to regulate them only if they are used in the take of game. The problem would be proving/disproving if they aided in the take

In the end it comes back to bite them. When it's ONLY about the money, they end up cutting corners. When they happens they get busted and they have the dept standing on their tails. Even out of state guys end up finding out about it and they lose repeat clients... which is the backbone of any outfit.

I'm not gonna pretend money doesn't matter. I wouldn't guide for free. No way. I put WAY to much money into fuel, optics and gear to give my time away. Except for junior hunts, I won't charge for a junior hunt. BUT... I won't EVER put the money above my love for the wildlife... and I could care less about ever booking an auction tag or even hunting some of the premium units. The pressure takes the joy out of it. No thank you.. lol
