Kaibab turkey hunters report???

Recommended Posts

Just wondering how the turkey hunt on the Kaibab went?

One buddy has been there a week I think and is hearing birds, but he hasn't taken one yet.

I was up there 3 days and saw or heard nothing. Could not get them gobbling, regardless of what I tried.

I was lion hunting up there around the first of April and the guys I was hunting with bumped into the WM and told them that they had a massive die-off this winter. Said it was because there were no acorns last fall and the birds didn't have enough fat to make it through the winter and they did get a lot of snow this winter.

I went to check out one of my favorite spots and found one bird talking. Had to cover a TON of country to even hear another bird.

Then my buddy had the Buffalo tag this year, went 3 different weekends in April and heard one gobble and saw one gobbler in the same area as he was in last year where he heard an uncountable amount of gobbles.

Doesn't sound encouraging to me...... I'd be interested to hear if anyone else would possibly agree that they had a die-off!

It was pretty tough I saw 2 gobblers and heard about 4. I almost got a shot at one but he held up in an aspen thicket. Small birds though. Not like the hogs we got back in Missouri

Different species, different habitat.

We even have these birds (Rio Grande) here in Arizona about a 100 miles from where you were at.

Can't retrieve a password for original username for some reason so created a new one. Birds were gobbling like crazy first day of second hunt, only lasted four hours but it is what it is. Don't think there was a die off was into a lot of birds in that short time.
