Do we have any Head Bangers??

After reading this post I was surprised to see how many CWT members like the Heavy Metal so here's a treat for all you heavy metal hunters out there. I made this a few years back and it took me a while to find the DVD but after a few days of looking I found it. The music is from one of my old co-workers band called Twist Dead Fable It might be a little heavy for some of you like but check it out its quite an intense video clip. http://www.monsterhuntclips.com/view_video...3cb83dacb17b0af

Sneak peak video of Dead On 2

Unfortunately Dave I won't be going I have family plans this weekend. Thanks again to everyone for watching and complimenting on the video.
  4. Hi everyone, A few people have been asking me if Dead On 2 is out yet well unfortunately the new video is not quite done and I think I'm going to have to wait another year before putting it out. For those who can't wait a year I made a demo of some of the footage that might be on the next video. I only put the coues deer footage in this demo and left the elk and mule deer footage out. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EN5XdH_ybzQ This is my first time posting a video on youtube so hopefully it works. It's a big long file so it might take awhile to watch. I would also like to thank everyone who has bought the first Dead On video and hopefully I can have part 2 done by 2008. Its been a tough time trying to get the footage I need for part 2. I'm determined to get atleast 1 successful spot n stock archery coues taken on the next video so hopefully this year we can accomplish that and the video should be complete. Thanks agian everyone and I'll keep you posted. Joe

    Freaks of the Woods

Great stuff everyone. With so many its hard to pick a favorite. The one elk skull in the water has to be one of my favorites even though the antlers aren't freaky, but that has to be one of the freakiest pictures I've every seen. Just all around wierd gota love it.

    Freaks of the Woods

Wow! Josh you have some awesome stuff. Love the 134 buck! That thing looks like it was mean a buck in his day. One of those bucks that none of the other bucks would mess with especially with that 3rd beam where it is. The elk shed with the all the stuff at the bases almost looks volcanic like antler lava. The lava bull is what I'm going to call it from now on if you don't mind. Very nice man I hope you find the time to post some more. Thanks Joe

    Freaks of the Woods

Thanks Jim. I think I use the same one you do. Its all about getting lucky and being able to get close to the deer. Any of the high end cameras will produce great footage as long as your close enough and a good tripod always helps. Anymore freaky, funky, or unique antlers out there? Joe

    Freaks of the Woods

Awesome stuff guys! Here's a couple more pics from some video I got of some funky coues. The big 2x3 is just a big nardly buck and the other buck just grew a big main beam and an eyeguard on one side. Hey azsagebrush I talked to you at the bowhunter happening about that funky shed you found. I'm almost 100% positive that your shed is from the same bull on the video. I watched it frame by frame and it looks exactly the same. That bull had to cover approx 50 in about 6 months though. I still can't believe that a bull would travel that far in such a small amount of time. I also find it hard to believe that there could be another bull out there with that type of antler configuration. So for how unbelievable it may be I think its probably is the same bull. Crazy stuff man.

I didn't get too many good angles on this buck this is the best I have of him. He's small but funky.

    Freaks of the Woods

Kevin that one looks like it might have been tough to find. I would have walked right past something like that thinking it was a stick or something else other than a shed. Very unique awesome find! Keep them coming guys. I got one more coming as soon as I find the video. Joe

    Freaks of the Woods

Thanks guys. I'm actually extreemly lucky to still have that rack. I had a dog drag the skull off one night while it was soaking in bleech on my back porch. I searched for 2 days and finally found the dog and the rack but by then he already chewed up most of the skull but luckly he didn't touch the antlers. I wish I had more freaks to share but I haven't been to lucky when it comes to finding freaky bucks. I have some video of one or 2 bucks that are kind of cool I'll see if I can't find them. Thanks Joe

    153" and change!!!!!!!

I don't know if your asking both of us or just Derek. Anyways I think Derek is back in Mexico. Unfortunatly I wasn't there so I didn't get any video of this buck. From what I understand there is some video of the buck feeding. I don't know how good the quality of the footage is and I don't know who filmed him either. From what I've heard they took video of the buck when they first found him but they were so excited when they went down to stalk and shoot the buck they forgot the camera. I don't know if this is excactly how it happened its just what I was told. To get the kill shot of a 150 buck like this on video would be incredible. They could make a video of just this buck and nothing else. As long as the footage was good enough I'd sure buy it. O well at least they were able to get footage of the buck while it was still alive feeding thats an outstanding accomplishment on its own. Joe Thatcher

    100"........The hard way.

Its hard enough getting a 100 incher with a rifle but to get one with a bow and traditional equipment on top of that! WOW! Great buck congrats man.

    153" and change!!!!!!!

This is one if not the most awesome buck I've every seen. I still can't believe this buck. It has it all!!! And what a beautiful coues deer. Its near impossible to even see a buck like this let alone shoot one. Great Job guys just increadible!

    Unit 10 archery bull

I had a great time on my elk hunt this year in unit 10. I saw and heard a good amount of elk except for the first day because I didn't get to my spot until 10:30 and by then everything was quiet and the bulls didn't start up agian until sundown so that day was a bust. The second day was good woke up and had bulls bugling 1/4 mile from where I camped but the wind was all wrong for calling so I had to try to get infront of the elk and after 2 hours of doggin the elk I finaly got in to a good possition to call. I was hunting alone so calling was tough for me. On average I could get bulls to only come in to about 100 yards and then they'd hold up with a few exceptions. I possitioned myself between 2 herd bulls and began calling. They were both interested but only one moved in closer. He came in fired up! When he got between 100 to 75 yrds he held up and began raking a tree so I snuck up within 50 yrds while he continued to thrash the tree. I could only see his back three points and worried that the front points might be all broke up so I decided to wait for him to finish raking. After another 5 mins which felt like 50 mins he finaly stopped. He was a good 6x6 bull with not even a chip. I guessed him between 350 and 360 very nice bull. But he walked strait away and never offered a good shot. I worked this bull for another 30 mins with no success so I called it a morning and backed out with plans to hunt this area in the evening. That evening I got into some great elk action there were bulls out bugling and checking the wallows as early as 2:00 pm. I called in a few bulls but nothing worth shooting just yet. Here some pics from video I took that night. I saw alot of broken bulls on this hunt. Compaired to the start of my hunt the next few days were awesome! I had shot opportunities everytime I went out. Trying to hunt, call and video all by yourself is very hard to do and I blew it more than once on a couple of true trophy class bulls because I tried to get the kill on video. Having a video camera around my neck and trying to video bit me in the butt on more than one occation. Here's some video pics I was lucky enough to capture of these days of hunting. After 5 days of trophy hunting I only had one more evening to hunt so I decided to shoot the next bull that offered me a good shot no matter what the size. I've never shot an elk and I wanted some meat. I already had plenty of chances to get a trophy bull now it was time to get my first bull under my belt. After calling to this bull for 30 mins he finaly offered me a perfect 30 yrd broadside shot. I got lucky and was able to make a leathal shot. I was even lucky enough to get the kill on video it was the most exciting 30 minutes of my hunt by far. video pics of my bull alive. Here's the bull on the ground.

    Unit 10 archery bull

Thanks Jim I hope your right. It is the hardest hunt to video by far. I've pretty much given up on trying to get the kill by filming over the shoulder. Way way too hard. We're now just trying to get one down while I video from a distance. So far the footage is pretty good this way now we just need to work on not missing anymore deer. I think I now have atleast three archery coues misses on video. If we can get atleast one kill this winter I can put it all together and make a realy good archery coues sequence for the next video. I can't wait to see how things turn out. I'll keep everyone here at cwt.com posted when anything new happens. Good luck on the upcoming hunts. O by the way how did your brothers elk hunt turn out? Joe

    Unit 10 archery bull

Yea the hunt should be in the next video. I haven't done any editing on it yet and its not the best footage but I think I can make it work. I still need to film some more hunts to get the video done. I had a heartbraking archery coues miss caught on tape in september. the hunters only 40 yards from the deer in this pic here's the deer he shoots at That would have been a great killing sequence to have. I realy want an archery coues killing sequence on the next video to help it stand out. Theres still the dec and jan archery hunts maybe I'll get lucky and get one on tape then but until then I'll have to rely on the rifle hunts to finish up the video. Hopefully things will work out and I can get enough footage to get the next video out in summer.

    Unit 10 archery bull

I sure do! here you go JVS. This bull would make mighty fine anything jerky, roast, hamburger u name it. The only thing it wouldn't be good for is a mount this was definatly the smallest bull I saw on my hunt. Heck I think he's the smallest bull I've ever seen on any hunt.

    Unit 10 archery bull

Here's a few more pics. I'm just about done with my skull just have some touch up to do but it's basicly done here it is. Like I and many others have said there were alot of broken bulls this year at least in my unit. Here's some pics of broken antlers peices I found. I was keeping them just in case I shot a broken bull maybe I'd be able to piece him back together. The top one has some great potential Here a couple of more pics just for kicks

    Unit 10 archery bull

Thanks for the compliments everyone it was definatly alot of work. I don't know how many times I wanted to just leave the camera at the truck and even though I got busted a couple of times because of the camera it all payed off in the end. I would have to say calling by myself was just as hard if not harder. I'm not the best caller to begin with and it was a very tough task to bring an bull in close enough to see let alone shoot. I'm in the progress of finishing the skull mount and when I get done I'll post a pic of it. I'm also thinking about posting some video of the hunt if I have some time to kill. Thanks agian everyone.
