Looks like my friend and I will be looking for some coues in unit 33 this November. Just us two and every other hunter in Tucson, time to get into shape and go where no other hunters will.

It is only the fourth day in and guys are dropping like flies. I have my money on the guy Mitch winning it, as long as this cougar doesn't have him running away next episode.

Don't know if this has been a thread or not, but I couldn't find it when I looked. I have tried many different Mexican restaurants in Tucson over the past years, was wondering if I have missed any. Mi Nidito is my favorite so far, does anything else top that. Or are there any places that have large quantities for low prices? Thanks

Big fan of El Guero, there is a stand off of Alvernon and Lee that gives El Guero a run for its money. The bread is out of this world.

El sur is one of my favorites, just wish it was closer to home. Nothing I have found can beat those prices, I will have to try Rosa's.

Do you agree with G&F forcing kids to take Hunter Safety???
CouesHunterAZ replied to Big Browns's topic in Youth Hunters
This is like saying kids don't need to get a drivers license for a year after they turn 16.. Why would you not want your kids to be safe around firearms at that age? I understand that you probably have done an amazing job training your kids to be around firearms, but a hunter safety course will reiterate everything you have taught them to mold it into their minds. And you might learn some things that you didn't know before. -
Back country backpack trip for Coues
CouesHunterAZ replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Definitely bring the .300 even with the extra weight. My family bought a 22-250 after a friend let us use it on a hunt (in which the 22-250 killed two coues with no problem). The next year I used it on my coues hunt and it took 7 shots in the deer until it died. Many of these shots were misplaced after the first, but it was very difficult for me in my mind as I felt like it was an "unethical" kill. Don't know what others experiences have been, but I have been using a .270 or .300 ever since. -
How are you guys able to figure out the exact odds of being drawn for each hunt? Is there an equation or stat sheet somewhere out there that I could look at? I put in around two weeks ago, and did mule deer hunt in 33 for first choice, and the nov 6-12 wt hunt in 33 for second. I have 1 bonus point, anyone know what my chances are or how I could configure my odds? Thanks

Really impressive, I am 6'4" and it took me until I was 18 to be able to dunk. Can't even imagine the vertical he will have if he keeps working at it.

Awesome finds!! -
I believe that one of the biggest things to do is go out and scout as many times as possible. Like Becker said these coues hide very well, so by scouting you will be able to pick up traits about coues such as where they like to bed and stay hidden. This will allow you to glass in areas that have higher odds of finding coues other than scanning the whole hillside with no patterns. Another big thing to me is staying out for the whole day (if you can). I just listened to Jay Scott's podcast which said that many deer get up and move around 10-11 a.m. and I could not agree with this more. If you don't have amazing glass it is very difficult to spot coues when bedded, but when they stand up and move a little bit it is a huge advantageous (especially for amateur glassers like my self). I would say that half of the coues that my family have taken has been between 10-12, so stay out there and keep glassing places that you have already gone over 30 times, because the deer will show up.

THE COUES THAT HAD NO CHANCE!

I would crawl up the mountain to get to that buck, awesome job! -
Here is my buck from last years hunt in 12A East. When we checked him in at the check point the Game and Fish personnel was courteous to show us photos of all the deer that had been checked in from all the 12 areas. I would say that there were some good bucks taken from the east side (170s range), but most of the bigger bucks were shot on the west side. If you choose to put in for any of the 12s, I would definitely add the west side.

This post just proved that some of you didn't watch Arizona basketball until the tournament... Arizona is bad at man to man? Arizona has no shooters? Sean Miller is only a good recruiting coach? Arizona is one of the best defensive teams in the nation, they just played the best college player in the nation and got into foul trouble early. Wisconsin also had the best shooting performance that I have ever seen in a half. The Wildcats also have some good shooters (not great) on this team, but our offense is ran by penetrating and getting to the foul line. I am not even answering the last one, but I will say that Sean Miller will get us to multiple final fours before his career is over.

Back to back spot and stalk bucks

That is absolutely awesome! Congrats man -
Here is my $.02 on the subject 1) Game and Fish needs to set up something where they can tell who is trying to put in before 6:45 on the deadline. Then the next day only these applicants can put in again. 2) All of you are going to hate me, but I kind of like how they extend the deadline. I assume that all the people that put in within the last hour, or until the extended deadline, are amateur hunters who aren't very serious about hunting yet (not as serious about the people on this site). Haha I imagine its like my dad putting my family in when we first moved here, where us kids are begging him to put us in but he is always so busy that he only remembers until the last minute. I also imagine that Dad getting extremely lucky and getting his kids drawn and that their hunt is what gets them addicted to this sport. Good luck to everyone in the draw this year

- Just got back from our trip in 12A East, here are the details of another great family hunt. Again after weeks of planning and preparation I was in the Yukon at 6 am thanksgiving day to pick up my brothers and dad. I picked them up around 10 and we headed off to Marble canyon. We quickly stopped at the Marble Canyon lodge and decided to go out for a quick scouting trip. None of us have been hunting in the area before so we wanted to get the gist of our plans for friday morning. Luckily Jeff(muley224) gave me some great advice on the unit and some spots to check out. We got to some good hunting area around 4 p.m. and started scouting out areas that would be good to check out the next days. I decided to pull out the .300 just in case we run into something, and we started going down some back roads. We kept getting out of the Yukon and glassing some hills, but we were not seeing any movement or sign for that matter. It was getting late so we decided to start heading back to the lodge but we decided to head down one last road that Jeff said was his favorite just to check it out for the next day. We were halfway down the road when I spotted two does around 170 yards away off to the right side. My father slammed on the brakes and everyone pulled up their binos. Immediately my father says, "Buck, IT IS A SHOOTER", and I am getting my seat belt off looking at the two does behind a bush with my naked eyes. We had planned that on the first two days I would only shoot a buck that was 160" or bigger, and so when my father said it was a shooter I highly questioned that the first buck we were going to see would be above that mark. I looked 20 yards to the left of the bushes the does were at and saw the buck feeding with his head down. I was trying to grab ammo/open the door/grab the gun when the buck picked his head up, and I immediately knew why my father and brothers were freaking out about. I have never seen as big of a buck in the wild in my life, the biggest buck probably being around 160". I awkwardly got out of the car threw a round in and downed this beauty at around 160 yards. I hit a lung and he ran about 30 yards and was done. It was by far the shortest hunt of my life as we walked around 500 yards total and it took one hour. This is by far the biggest buck in my family as we consider a spike as a trophy in our books. I couldn't have done it without this website as it is the reason why I wanted to put in for kaibab hunts and to also go after trophy bucks. And I certainly couldn't have done it without Jeff as I would have had no idea how to hunt this area. Jeff helped score him today and he came in at 185" gross without the deduction of his left kicker. I am still in shock that this really happened and I couldn't have asked for a better thanksgiving with the family.
