    Pentax Gameseeker 6x42 Riflescope

After comparing the Pentax Gameseeker rifle scope to other models, I would have to say that overall, it is an impressive package for a lower priced scope. While my preference would be for a variable power model, the fixed power 6x42 scope I reviewed, has a feel of a quality piece and the black matte finish should keep glare and flash in the field to a minimum. the eye relief is good and should keep even a magnum shooter from getting "scope eyed". I compared the scope for relative brightness and while I felt a variable Leupold was better on the same magnification, The Gameseeker was pretty good. I'd score it a 7 out of 10 for brightness. Compared to a 40mm scope it was comparable brightness but a compared to a 50mm scope it was quite dark, but that is apples and oranges. Upon initial inspection I thought it had a poor focussed reticle image but after using the focus ring on the rear, and following the directions, it had decent image sharpness. Once you set the focus you can probably forget it as the ring turns firmly and should hold position. The scope features nitrogen charged coated optics and the Pentax Worry free guarantee so how can a guy go wrong? The reticle design was linear ranging. This feature adds another nice touch allowing for easy adjustments on shot placement for longer range shooting. With any scope, range use, field use and owner confidence will be the ultimate decider on satisfaction. Most serious hunters will pay more for a good scope and select a well known brand name so as not to take any chances on missing a shot due to questionable optics. For a lower end scope though, I think this Pentax Gameseeker model looks like a good product with a good name and casual hunters should be pleased with the overall package. Thanks for the chance to review the scope Doug

  4. Here is the REALfox news gun control poll story. The general summary is as follows: NEW YORK — Americans say tougher gun laws would not be able to stop things like the Virginia Tech shooting because people who commit these kinds of acts will always find guns. The latest FOX News poll finds that about one of five Americans (19 percent) believes tougher gun laws can help stop shootings like the one at Virginia Tech, while a 71 percent majority disagrees. Majorities of gun owners (78 percent) and non-gun owners (64 percent) alike believe that so-motivated individuals will always find ways around gun laws. Democrats (29 percent) are more than three times as likely as Republicans (8 percent) to say they think tougher gun laws could help stop these kinds of shootings. Opinion Dynamics Corp. conducted the national telephone poll of 900 registered voters for FOX News from April 17 to April 18. The poll has a 3-point error margin. A similar question produced roughly the same results after the sniper shootings in the Washington, DC area in late 2002. Fourteen percent of the public felt that tougher gun laws could stop situations like the sniper shootings, though fully 76 percent said they thought people would always find ways around tougher gun laws (22-23 October 2002). So the story said roughly 80 % did not believe that tougher gun control would have prevented the situations. Gun control should not be preventing responsible ownership.

    Family Strengths

Time for an update. I will be returning to work (like I have been on Vacation... ) next week after doing about everything construction related over the last 7 months. The bad part is, I will be driving a lot... to and from Sidney, NE but it should be worth the time on the road. After all, 90 miles here is lots easier than driving across Phx during rush hour. I'll be merchandising for a company that most all of us have had fun spending lots of time and money at. I hope you will be enjoying some of my work in the near future too. More Later, after I get my feet wet ...

    John McCain

I would also vote for SS benefits for aliens or immigrants. IF THEY WERE LEGAL. Sneaking in this country to earn a living is not LEGAL. Sure, I see why they want out of thier 3rd world countries, but there is a LEGAL way. Seems to me that the RICO law takes away assets gained from criminal enterprises. If these illegal immigrant invaders start out with crime and perpetuate it to continue to make financial gains, how can this be any different. Smaller scale maybe but still illegal. McCain is a sellout. His goal is to be elected president and he will kiss anyone or any group to do it.

The whole mess stinks of Animal rights activism. Personally I never hunted over salt but was planning to try it based on reports mainly from the forum. If AGFD does not have "valid data" showing success over water, or near croplands, where would they get "valid data" to show salt was more successful. Looks like our "big brother" is watching us, and getting "valid data" from this forum. Be Careful what you post about other things like sheds and things that happened to you in the past.

    Sad

Good point on the erroneous info about scratched off serial #s. I guess the real story is still unfolding.... It does remind me of a person that is against the death penalty. Until a family member is killed, and the killer is convicted. Many times they change their mind because they were personally affected. We all know that When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have guns!

    Sad

I am posting a somewhat long article below but it is quite appropriate. I'd bet that with the media bias out there, very few people are aware of the positives of responsible gun ownership. Sadness from the public is profound as a result of the terrible actions of 1 sick individual. May everyone touched by the assault be blessed with strength and guidance to see you through these tough times. Credit goes to one of my daily news and views websites. Neal Boortz. www.boortz.com -------- Gun Control This is undoubtedly the worst school shooting, high school, college or otherwise, in the history of our country. There are some facts, however, about some of these school shootings of which you probably are not aware. Do you know, for instance, that at least three shootings in high schools were stopped by civilians with guns? Civilians, not law enforcement. In one case a civilian was traveling past a school when he saw children running from the building. One told him that there was a student inside shooting people. The civilian pulled his gun, ran in side, and confronted the student. The student put down the gun and surrendered. In another case a high school vice-principal heard that there was a student in the hallways with a gun. He sprinted a half-mile to his car. He had a gun in his car so he had to park off campus. He then sprinted back with the gun to confront the student. Lives saved. There have been many other cases where civilians with guns have prevented further carnage at the hands of killers. The media isn't fond of reporting these episodes because they don't contribute to the cause of gun control. The point here is that you are never ever going to get the guns out of the hands of those who want to use them for carnage. Never. In all the years of press releases and statements from the Brady anti-gun organization there has never been one single gun control plan presented that would take the guns out of the hands of criminals. This is the oddity of gun control. Only law abiding people are going to abide by gun control laws. Criminals are not. The anti-gun lobby, and that includes much of the media, will never give any fair coverage at all to the people who use guns to save their own lives, or the lives of others. Now here's something that I have yet to see reported in the mainstream media. Earlier this year the Virginia General Assembly failed to act on House Bill 1572. The citizens of Virginia are permitted to carry concealed weapons if they get a proper permit from the state government --- unless you are on a college campus. This bill would have allowed college students and employees to carry handguns on campus --- with appropriate permits, of course. It died in subcommittee. After the bill was thrown out up steps Larry Hincker, a spokesman for Virginia Tech, the site of today's carnage, who says "I'm sure the university community is appreciative of the General Assembly's actions because this will help parents, students, faculty and visitors feel safe on our campus." So .. how safe did these students and faculty in Norris Hall feel yesterday? Now nobody can say for certain, but if it had been legal for students, employees or faculty members with permits to carry guns on the campus, is it at all possible that there might be some students alive today who didn't make it through the carnage? Do you think the actions of the Virginia General Assembly stopped the gunman from getting his guns and carrying them to the campus? Of course not. Reports are that the guns had their serial numbers scratched off. The were acquired outside of the normal channels of commerce and illegally carried to the Virginia Tech campus. The law meant nothing to the shooter. It meant something to the victims though, and perhaps that's why there wasn't one person anywhere near the shooter with a gun that might .. just might have been used for self defense. There are those out there who think that allowing people to carry a concealed weapon on a college campus is an absurd idea. Why so? Just how is a college campus that much different than our society as a whole? Diverse people living together in common environment pursuing different goals. Where's the big difference? What is so special about a college campus that students should not be allowed to own firearms? What if some student in the dormitory had a gun? What if he heard the argument in an adjoining room and had accompanied the student advisor when he went to quell the disturbance? Could that student with a gun have stopped this carnage before it even began? We'll never know. But is there anyone out there who can say for a certainty that the day might have played out quite differently? Some of the less educated will come forth with lines of thought like "We don't want to return to the wild, wild west." Why not? What research have you put into your clever little "wild wild west" line? Do you know anything about the actual crime rates in the so-called wild west? Would you be surprised to learn that the crime rate in what we now refer to as the "wild wild west" was actually lower than it is in most American cities now? And why would that be? Because people were armed, for one thing. People were armed, and the bad guys knew that people were armed. Tell me ... just what chance do you think a lone gunman would have had in those days in lining up people against a wall and then calmly picking them off one by one. No ... I'll tell you. Slim to none. Oh he might get off a shot or two, but by then he would be the object of some rather intensive target practice. And let's talk about people with concealed carry permits. Do you think they're dangerous? Do you think they're just wandering around ready to pull their gun and start shooting at the slightest provocation? Again .. check the statistics. People with concealed carry permits are among the most law abiding people in the nation. Oops ... another little preconception shot to heck, so to speak. Let me ask you another question. In fact, let's set up a hypothetical situation. You're in a class full of people at a university. Let's say that there are 30 people in that room. A predator with a gun walks through the door. He shoots the professor, kills him. He then takes the remainder of the people in the room and lines them up against a wall. He then walks up to the first person and shots them in the head. Now ... let me allow you to change the scenario. We can freeze-frame this situation while you make a decision. Your decision is this: You can put a gun into the hands of one student or a professor in that room, or you can leave things exactly the way they are. What are you going to do? Come on now, let's have it. Which way do you want it? Do you want the predator to be the only one in the room with a gun? Or would you like to have at least the fighting chance that would result if one, maybe two of your classmates had a firearm. Now believe it or not, there are people out there (we generally call them liberals) who would say; "Oh no, I don't want anyone else to have a gun! They might try to shoot the killer and innocent people might get caught in the crossfire!" Well you can try to find a rational basis for that argument from now until pigs fly, and you will fail. There is no rationality in that argument. It's an argument based in mindless hysteria. Let's couch the argument a bit differently. Let's say you are the parent of a college student. You get a call from the campus police saying that your child is being held hostage in a classroom on the campus. The hostage-taker has a gun and has already shot one student. The police tell you that they have developed a plan whereby they are going to be able to sneak a gun into the hands of one of the students in the classroom, a student known to the police to be proficient in the use of a handgun. Before the police can take this step they need the unanimous consent of the parents of the students in that class. While you're thinking it over the hostage-taker executes another student. OK ... your decision. What do you say? Are you going to say "No, I don't want any of those students to be armed. I don't care how qualified they are with a gun." Or are you going to allow the gun to be passed to the student. Now if your answer is that you would allow the gun to be passed to the student, they please explain your rational for the position that the student in question should not have been permitted to have a gun in the first place with a concealed carry permit? You may have difficulty in understanding this, but it really is rather difficult to arm these students after the fact. And insofar as the shooter is concerned ...you do understand that there is no way in heck to have prevented him to come on to that campus with guns once he made up his mind to do so, don't you? Here's another question for you to ponder. What if the Virginia legislature had passed HB 1572 and it had been signed into law? Then the shooter would have known that there was a strong likelihood that there would be some students, professors and administrators on the campus with a gun. Is there any chance at all that this might have caused the shooter to set aside his plans for carnage? Can you say for a certainty that things would have played out as they did? Lambs for the slaughter One more thing. I have a question here. No answer .. just a question. Why didn't some of these students fight back? How in the heck do you line students up against a wall (if that's the way it played out) and start picking them off one by one without the students turning on you? You have a choice. Try to rush the killer and get his gun, or stand there and wait to be shot. I would love to hear from some of you who have insight into situations such as this. Was there just not enough time to react? Were they paralyzed with fear? Were they waiting for someone else to take action? Sorry .. I just don't understand. And one more thing I've heard many students being interviewed by the media since yesterday's shooting. They are all very articulate and impressive in the face of this horrible incident, but none more impressive than a student named Jamal. Jamal is from the West Bank. A Muslim. A Palestinian. I heard him interviewed a few times on CNN. A very impressive young man indeed. Finally ... Everyone associated with the show wishes to express their deepest condolences to the families and friends of the students who lost their lives yesterday at Virginia Tech. I have a close friend who's son attends VT. Even though he knew that his son was safe, I could hear the emotion in his voice yesterday when I talked with him. There is no way we can understand the anguish that accompanies the loss of a child-- especially under senseless circumstances such as this. We are very sorry for your loss.
  12. Has the company changed packaging recently? Stuff like that does happen from time to time. I used to work for a parts store and the paint supplier changed packages for the little bottles of touch-up paint. After 3 months in the field, lots of complaints were rolling in from all over that the new stuff all dried up. The report was the bottles were tested, but with enamel based paint, not laquer based which ate the seals... Sure someone got canned for that screwup. Food for thought often takes a while to digest...

    The marine

Don't forget that this is the administration that if you disagree they call you anti-american... Are you saying that the republicans support individuality? Now that is funny.... and you are correct the republican house and senate did give the president authority to go into Iraq... and we are just finding out that the admin lied to push it's agenda... j- Jamaro, Your complaints and replies are nothing more than diversionary tactics used to avoid specifics and evoke sympathy and unity. You say President Bush (the administration) Lied. Tell us... What was the Specific lie? You cannot point to a specific, because there isn't one. Inaccurate information that is passed on is not a lie. Who in the administration calls anyone "Anti-American" for disagreeing with them? I am sure you can't give a name. Deflecting the blame to a "republican house and senate" makes you feel better and avoids self blame but over 40% of the house and senate were Dems that voted to go in as well. I feel sorry that you have been indoctrinated to the socialist propaganda from the democrat party. I will pray for your recovery, and I hope that you will see that regurgitating party rhetoric is not the way of a thoughtful individual, but it IS the way of "Sheeple" that "flock" to the party you seem to represent. By the way, here is some verified data on what makes up the price of Gasoline at the pump on average. I must apologize as I was a bit off on my 10% profit figure. The actual Profit percentage on average is 6 (SIX) percent. This is divided among the Producer AND Transporter AND Retailer. "April 2006 breakdown of the components of the price of a gallon of gasoline: 54% is the price of crude; 21% is the cost of refining; 2% is the cost of transportation; 17% is taxes; they don't list a cost for retailing and marketing; and profit to refiner, transporter, and retailer is 6%." Info verified at http://www.gravmag.com/oil.html May each one of us Think, Verify and Prove what we purport to be facts before we try to use them as a bully club on another. Yes we can all go round and round in politics, but the bottom line is, Don't trust the media, do your own research and you might be surprised at what you will find that is contrary to what they are feeding you. Irony is, Unless you verify the media stories, Some day you could be charged with lying when you pass on what they reported inaccurately. This Thread is entitled "The Marine". As Tribute, May God Bless our Troops everywhere and bless our great country which they protect.
