  1. I have lived in the NW valley for several years I have not gone dove hunting in at least 10 years. Not ever hunting dove on the west side of town, and with all the urban sprawl. I wonder if there are any safe, legal places to bird hunt? Any suggestions from Peoria. By the way, I already checked into the new stadium in Glendale, but the only birds around there look pretty sick and not worth the effort.

Trouble and Danger in UNIT 34A

It is obvious why the topic went off track somewhat, and we need to wait for investigations to prove or disprove various theories. I wrote what I wrote, and it applies to anyone coming here illegally from any country. Mexico, Canada, Columbia, Israel, Russia, Puerto Rico, Cuba, or Iceland. ANY COUNTRY. Legal Immigration is Legal and Illegal immigration is Illegal. Times are tense and terrorists ARE affecting the way we look at almost everything in life. I pray for and end to the terror and the pain This board is mainly for coues hunting and provides a relief from stress for me and likely others, so thanks for pointing that out again. Stick a forkie in me, I think I am done!

Trouble and Danger in UNIT 34A

We ALL agree Nobody here knows the reasons for this killing, but the point I hear repeatedly is the public is not safe in the southern border regions. Comments like: Make sure you carry a gun, Sleep with a gun under your pillow, Scout the area around your vehicle before you go to it. Make sure you don't camp or hunt alone in those areas, Etc..... All those comments and more from outdoors people show we have a border control problem. It is NOT the fault of the border patrol, but the fault of the policy makers. Any citizen who holds these illegals at gunpoint is charged as racist and or a nutcase. Sued in Feceral court for human rights violations, kidnapping, hostage taking and unlawful detention. I just do not see how they can come here illegally and want to be helpful and productive for themselves and this country. To me it is like one candidate running for president who has promoted his war record as reason for him to be elected but won't deny what hundreds of people who were there say to prove he is lying. Build your house on a landfill and it will probably stink until you admit it is on a landfill, and move it! I thoroughly believe this country can survive without illegals. We did for almost 200 years until the policy was ignored. Just look at news stories and movies from 20 - 40 years ago. Raids were common and IMMIGRATION was the "blood curdling scream" from illegals when they were spotted here illegally. Federal law prohibits illegals from being hired but it is just plain not enforced. Thousands come here legally every year. My point is if they want to come here, legally is the only acceptable way. If they come here any other way, They should be thrown out forcibly and treated so they do not want to come back. Treating illeags as "guests" is like leaving sugar out as ant poison. IT DOES NOT WORK. You just try to go to Mexico illegally (that's a laugh) but if you did, you would not be treated the way we treat them. I think of many of the Guantanimo prisoners from Iraq and recall lots of them asked how they were being treated. The reporters thought the conditions were terrible but the prisoners said they did not have it so good at home, ever! Sorry for the venting but I am furious one of our own is lost for no apparent reason, and furious the governmetn is not doing what it is supposed to be doing.

Curious, Are you range shooting for the 300yards or just out in the field? If so which range has the 300yd open on weekends?

    Lets see 'em

Ditto on what Mattule said: Searching hard and long for an animal is character appraisal at it's best. One who halfheartedly searches until he is tired or finds another animal to shoot does not belong in the sport. Cannot say how many I have seen with just a head taken off while I was out hunting. Your situation as an example, maybe some of those guys I cursed were actually in a similar situation as you! Afterall I would not want to pack out a carcass if it was spoiled and ravaged by bears, yotes and lions. Thanks for your ethics and another perspective!
  6. Hot or not, I bet she did not have leather seats! Always someone out there to make your day. Thanks Ernesto for showing us that obeying seat belt laws is important too!

Trouble and Danger in UNIT 34A

Newbee That set up is something like I saw on a show this weekend. They use that very set-up in polar bear country in Norway I think? Pretty cool but with the fire danger it might burn down your tent and half the forest just trying to warn you some lowlife scumbag is about to kill you or steal your posessions. I still believe it is criminal that we law abiding citizens have to fear those illegals (whether or not they were the the ones guilty in this case) when we are out in the wilderness in our own country. The sentiment of "taking care" and Watching out for" and "make sure you take a gun" permeates the topic and it is just not right! Illegals, are by definition ILLEGAL and therefore breaking the law. Illegals must FIRST be stopped from coming here and the only way to do it is to start doing it. I am sick and tired of everyone in law enforcement looking the other way when faced with illegals. They get in a wreck and they are let go since the police cannot wait for the overworked understaffed INS or border patrol. They come here and clog up our hospitals since they get free care. Women stand by the border just waiting to give birth. When they start into labor they hustle across so their little baby will be a US citizen. Then they all come across as the parents. They find ways to Beat the system and these are the "legal" ways. We ALL have to pay for these people as they drain our system and resources dry. For years the AZ school board has let and helped dozens of illegals cross the border daily to attent AZ Schoos. As bad as the public schools are in AZ they are better than anything in Mexico and they are FREE. Thousands of more examples of the way the illegals abuse our system, and it will continue until they pay a price, some significant penalty for coming here ILLEGALLY! Finally, I am not opposed to LEGAL immigration, but LEGAL means LEGAL and cannot be confused with ILLEGAL. I am not Racist and I generally abide by the laws and pay my share of taxes. I have no sympathy or compassion for someone who would break into my house and steal my posessions. I would protect anyone who was an invited guest in my home . Likewise I do not have any sympathy or compassion for someone breaking into my country and stealing or damaging it's posessions either. I am sure this is likely to tick some folks off, but that is the way I see it, and until I find a reason why those legal immigrants can go through the process, and the illegal ones cannot I will not change my mind. I have and will continue to Pray for all those in the circle of life lost but I also Pray for earthly and heavenly justice to those who cut the life short.

Trouble and Danger in UNIT 34A

Ernesto has some good points, and a lot of others have also had good points. Regardless of the person(s) responsible for this dastardly act, I still stand my my belief that the US Government is looking the other way regarding the illegal alien problem. Be it a "harmless" person seeking work and a better life or a smuggler, or a terrorist, The government is not protecting the border adequately. Proytecting the border also includes keeping employers from hiring the illegal workdes. I have read on this board where A 7 strand wire fence with countless holes is all that seperates us from the illegals, and it is obvious it ain't working! Daily traffic accidents with van loads of illegals throughout AZ show it is a problem. More than 1000 catch and release aliens in AZ every day show it is a problem. A new Test program where we Fly illegals home at US taxpayer expense shows it is a problem. After flying them home, they mostly say they will rest up and try again. Whoever came up with this program, I got a sign for you to hole, It says STUPID. I will wait for more info on the investigation of this specific incident but I am mad as I can be about not being able to feel safe in my own country due to illegals, and that is not going to change! Political correctness is plain stupid! When did "Illegal" quit being enforced by the laws?

Trouble and Danger in UNIT 34A

That really is upsetting. I hope there is some way to tell through an autopsy if the man was killed by the bear or other means. If the proof is there that he was killed by someone then mauled by the bear, I would have to believe initially it was illegals. The bleeding hearts will find some way to blame him. He should not have been there, he resisted someone in need, He threatened them, or some other such mullarky. Re-read all the posts above and then think about truly how unbelievable it is that we are all chatting about not being safe from invading masses of illegal aliens and criminals, while legally hunting, hiking or camping in our own country. I certainly think that it is high time that the US Government live up to their Constitutional responsibility of protecting the legal citizens within our borders. I am afraid It will not be long before the citizens take up arms and take the responsibility for protection of the upon themselves. The fault is with the US Government border policy, not the border patrol agents.

    commercialization

Thanks for the "simple" description. I get it and agree with the plan. If I could ask for anything, it would be a few exceptions to allow individuals to do what they want to with their legally harvested animals. Such a shame that Taulman has frogged it up for everyone! Also interesting to note that the lawyers are essentially trying to figure out a way around the wording and keep things the way they are, or the way they should be. Basically they are closing a legal loophole that another lawyer tried to exploit on behalf of a scumbag. Lawyers are benefitting and we the people are the ones in the panic. I remember the old ad that said "Guns don't kill people, people kill people". Sets me in mind of one for lawyers. "Laws don't screw people, Lawyers screw people!" Don't get me wrong, I am sure there are some lawyers that have ethics and scruples, but from what I have seen, the most of them try to exploit and manipulate those with ethics and ultimately manipulate the system. Think about this... Most polititcians are Lawyers first. I would rather have a military man in politics thatn a lawyer anyday! Soapbox is now put away! Thanks for letting me vent!

    .300 Win. Mag.

I have a buddy who shoots a 7mm mag and he uses the ballistic tip Federal Premium round. Pretty accurate but that ballistic tip is a little less efficient than a meatgrinder! Terrible damage on the meat and hide. I don't shoot them due to the disaster he finds whenever he goes to retrieve his game.

teenhunter Let us know some of your thoughts on where you might go and the members would be more likely to agree or disagree, then pass on helpful info about your spots. So Many newbies just pop in for some freebie information so regular posters tend to avoid helpful advice unless there is evidence the newbie has done some basice research or legwork. Food for thought...

Younghnter Ditto on the Rem Core Lokt. 180's. I get decent groups at 200 and that is an easy round to get at most any walmart or sporting goods store. I have used others, and one from winchester sticks in my mind. 165 grain fail safe. Super good but tougher to find locally so I opted for the Remingtons. Good Luck!

    Read about Taulmans past

Okay, I have simmered down for a month or more on the Taulman Crud, so now I have a few thoughts to share on my opinion of him. I will try to keep it relatively clean but you never know what might fly out when I am ranting! Mister Taulman is quite simply a Little Teeny Tiny Lowlife Maggot Slug Scumbag Dirty Dog Pigface Jerk who deserves to lick his lawyers boots and his own for the rest of his life. I hope he loses his business because it is likely the most valueable thing he owns. He certainly has no value in his so called reputation. We all know he has a home to go back to if things get too tough for him financially, (under the rock he caem from) May the fleas of a thousand camels infest his armpits. I really Hope he lives a very long life. so the rest of his days he can be reminded of how he tarnished the good name of hunters in general through his selfish greedy actions. thats all for now, and I do feel better!

    Another hit coming to USO

Looks like more and more, Taulman has taken a leak in his own bowl of cheerios. I keep hoping it keeps on track this way and he gets all that is coming to him. Taulman, If you run out of milk for your cheerios in your camp, just run up a flag and we will all pitch in with some substitute that is suitable for a schmuck like you!
  19. I have a friend who was ther last year during Grand opening I think. Sure he said it was KC? I have been to several of them in Minn WI and my most regular and favorite one is the Sidney Nebraska. I have a brother in law that lives about an hour from that store in Wyo and we always go there when we visit. I like the Sportsmans Warehouse in Phx, too! It is like a mini cabelas. Good memories from cabelas though!

    Coues Tag for unit 23

ROF LOL I thought we had a thread going a while back about not giving out all of our secrets. I can't believe you guys are giving up all this good info to all the potentially new hunters out there. Personally I am somewhat relieved that the secret is out. We might have some more of those 190 + class world record bucks coming out of the woods with all of the new hunters coming out of the closet using these ideas and tricks.

    Sheriff Joe

Well Joe is not a Charles Barkley Quote machine, But hey he is about as good as we have and I support the way the Sheriff has done his job. A bit of a publicity hound but it is not a lot different than the bait car program. The city PDs using the Bait Cars, show videos and promote it to keep others from stealing cars. Way To Go Joe. Git er done..

    Lion Experience

Great story! I know how you feel. I have posted before about this but in 2001, I was stalked by a big mean lion. Growling and hissing as he came in at me from 45 yards to about 10 feet. I too was unarmed (nevemore) and I DID see my life flash before my eyes. I cannot imagine a worse way to die except possibly by fire. I was scouting for elk near west clear creek wilderness out of camp verde in unit 6. I was fortunate to stop him and turn him away in the last 10 feet with the help of a Prayer and a tree root I broke off a nearby dead tree. Still gives me chills! Everyone asked if I cr@pped my shorts, but just the opposite happened. I was stopped up for 2 days afterwards! I still have the lifesaving branch in my back yard and one vivid memory to go with it. Hope you get him!

    Topo Maps

I use the Delorme edition from a few years ago. Pretty good in conjunction with the downloaded arial photos from terraserver! Amazing stuff that you can make out when you zoom in to the 1 meter resolution.! Terraserver also brings down a topo map that you can toggle back and forth from the photos. Not the best top as the elevations are in meters, but hey it's for nuttin.
  25. Poetic Justice if I ever heard it! 1 down... At least a million to go! a follow-up on this story. Word has it the guy's law firm is suing hammock maker for strangling the tree into a weak and vulnerable position which caused the tree to collapse. They are also considering suing the state for not providing safety escapes from such a dangerous device as a hammock! Git er done!
