definetly a monster buck - but I don't know if I'd call it 'typical', a couple of those tines might be considered abnormal points... A question for the friend who found it: WHERE IS THE OTHER SIDE!!!! FIND IT!! FIND IT!!

I just checked my bonus points on the G&F website, it had a bunch of different bonus and loyalty points than I have ever applied for... Anyone else have similar results??

Archery Hunting in Arizona
SilentButDeadly replied to Coues 'n' Sheep's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I walk the earth, like Caine in Kung Fu, looking for sheds, and glassing any bucks that my bird dog spooks up. Then, when hunting season comes, I reach my hand into my pile of sheds and pick out the biggest, meanest looking one and say - thats the buck I want to hunt! my pile of sheds... how many gila monster skulls have you found? my old shed hunting shoes... -
spent the whole fall and winter scouting Coues

Went out the last two days with my father-in-law hunting desert muleys. Found a nice 4x4 yesterday morning only to lose him in the fog coming off the snowy desert. Yesterday was an amazing day with all of the snow and frost everywhere. Found him again today, had 6 does with him. 1st shot went bad, hit him in the gut. After blood trailing, bedding, and chasing him for the next 4 hours I put him down with a 75 yard downhill shot. I have 5 coyotes to thank, they encircled him and were ready to harass him to death, but they gave me time to come around the mountain and put another arrow in him. Tyson -

3x3 toad! -
How many of us would have gone onto that mine property and gotten that buck, permission or no? I'm one.

my Coues rules of thumb: 1.) main beams outside his ears => bowhunter - call in reinforcements and DO NOT take your eyes off him until he beds down; gun hunter - range him and fire at will. 2.) more than 4 points (including eye guards) on each side => see above 3.) drop tine => see above

Went out this morning all psyched to find the buck I've been scouting. Instead, I turned up a herd of javelina directly below my glassing position. I missed out on the September javelina hunt, so I wasn't going to let this opportunity slip by. got him in Unit 33 - photos taken at home. He's some pig - does anyone have a recipe for making old smelly boar taste edible?

Wowza! If you can, upload that video to a digital media website, I'd love to see it!

I'm not knowledgeable enough about them to feel comfortable writing their online encyclopedia description, but I do feel that they deserve one! see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_tail_deer

I think you should start shooting from further away from the target, that always does the trick for me when I'm putting my groups too close together...

Thanks Amanda, Those recipes sound pretty tasty. I got got the hide off without damaging the scent glands (which I didn't know about until I was getting ready to skin him - a friend warned me). The meat smells pretty okay actually - except the dog turned his nose up at a scrap I threw him... just have to see. Oh, also any reccomendations on cleaning out the skull? Boil, beetles, etc? Tyson

Saw a 4x4 muley buck with 6 does today... so maybe things are heatin up.

It was inside the National Park boundry (legal issue) - and I hadn't been infected by buck fever yet.

here is a shed I found on top of Tanque Verde Ridge a couple years ago - its still up there as far as I know - although probably not in as good a shape...

nice find, looks like good mass all the way out through the end of the main beam.

¡Buen trabajo! I've got the feeling you're gonna be for hire only here pretty soon... I'm keepin my eyes out for fresh lion sign round my parts but all I keep seeing is old stuff. I've got a feeling I might spot one pretty soon - they tend to winter down low where I'll be lookin for my big buck in January...

With any luck he will be hobbling up that same tree with a seat pillow the last 2 weeks of January...

Why take away a greater % archery tags than general? Why pity the gun hunters for their lower draw probability? Everyone who enters into the lottery chooses what weapon they want to hunt with, there isn't any stipulation keeping you from becoming an archer. Unless they have shown that archery (both as a weapon group and as its season occurs during the rut) is more effective at reducing the number of cows and they want to increase that number I can't understand why there was such a dramatic cut. My fear is that this is supply-side economics: G&F want there to be more general cow tags so as to increase the number of general applicants. Since general applicants far out number archers, it is a quick way to make some more dough. I am all about G&F making money, charge double for everything - but make sure that the game is being managed correctly. It should be about successful harvest #'s not applicant #'s. That being said, I'm going to accept the change - since it is too late for me to do anything about it - maybe next time I will go to the meetings and make my voice heard. Long live the herd!

WTF!!!! Its going to take me a while to figure out the logic behind this one.

Saw a buck and a doe together this morning. Both were feeding, buck didn't seem too interested -but he was mature, about 85 inches - so maybe things are heating up... Sorry didn't have camera with me (if I'd remembered to take it I wouldn't have found any deer!).
