watch 'Gasland' on HBO or DVD!

What about those people's rights when it comes to the Clean Water and Clean Air Acts (which the gas development companies are exempt from - thanks to the so called 2005 'Halliburton exemption')? The people may not own the mineral rights to their lands, but they can start fires with their faucet water now that there are gas wells on their property. Should these companies only have to pay people, or truck in their water after they've fought tooth and nail through corporate lawyers to avoid responsibility? Lark, are you so callous as to say that our country's addiction to cheap, easy energy validates poisoning drinking water and sickening American children (even if its only the poor stupid ones who bought land without the mineral rights)? Are we (as a country) so lazy that we refuse to change our lifestyles to really break the back what's fueling our involvement in the Middle East, the spill in the Gulf, or I'm afraid to even mention it - Global Warming? 'Change' is probably the scariest word out there for most conservatives. The idea of breaking this way of life (one that has only really been around for the last 60 years) that is dependent upon fossil fuels for everything from the food we eat to the gas in our ATVs is anathema to most conservatives who think only liberals want to live like granola crunching hippies who expect the government to give them everything. Last I checked, the government is the one who is subsidizing the farm industry and oil and gas, the very things lazy Americans refuse to give up. Instead we'll just keep on with the status-quo: cheap food, cheap gas, and foreign wars fought by the same kids whose favorite pass-time back home was lighting the faucet water on fire, and making homemade plastic out in the horse trough with an acetylene torch. The only real question is which one of those things will kill them first - the war, the water, or the food? A hippy filmmaker made the movie, but it was red blooded people who live on that land that are getting sick - I didn't see many dream catchers or tie-dyed shirts in those ranch houses - it was mostly cowboy hats and buffalo rug covered couches. I heard the same thing from that rancher saying he just wants to produce good quality beef for everyone that I heard from the farmer in 'Food Inc.' saying he just wants to grow good healthy produce (his problem are companies like Monsanto who own the seed and it's genes, and have corporate lawyers). The wildlife are most certainly endangered by well development (this guy's CV has a list of his publications on the impacts of wells on wildlife main website). Any kind of human development is going to have negative impacts on wildlife, the bigger the animal the more likely an impact. Loss of habitat to development is the #1 risk to wildlife, period. The gas wells involve pouring poisonous chemicals into surface catchments, which according to the hippy (who backs it up with video), the companies spray into the air with golf course sprinklers to increase evaporation. If one thirsty goat drinks from those unfenced tanks its impacted negatively, maybe lethally.

Shultz pass fire my daughters lost dog

That dog is alive. Fire in timber moves pretty slow (dogs know better than to run at smoke, and be are too fast to be overtaken by it even with a bit of rope) - so no worries there. There are lots of crews and engines moving through the area, and I'm sure somebody would take note of the dog and radio it in if they saw it. Hopefully the dog was wearing a collar; I bet its only a matter of time if it hasn't already been picked up by the animal patrol. Put a call into the sherriff (who is running animal control at this point), or to animal control to see if its been picked up. Here is an article with a website for the lost pets: http://azdailysun.com/news/local/article_9...07ae2b1a65.html

    Don't mess with my baby

My vizsla got attacked by a doe up on the Santa Fe NF a few years ago. We were hiking up a trail and I had him off leash, he turned a corner 50 yards ahead of us, and as I came up toward it I saw a little brown flash come down the hill at us (I assumed it was the dog) I looked and saw it had white spots all over and realized it was a fawn; a second later it was gone down the hill, and I heard the dog barking somewhere above us... I thought 'Oh shoot'... Then I heard him yelping and getting further away from us, angling back down hill toward the trail we'd come up, I dropped my pack and chainsaw and went running down the trail calling after him... A moment later he appears on the trail, hauling butt, with a pissed off doe nearly on-top of him. She walloped him in the middle of his back and hind quarters twice before he skidded underneath my legs. She stopped less than 5 yards from us, eyes blazing at him. I looked him over and saw that she'd torn fur off his back in a few spots, but no blood. We stood there looking at each other for a minute, then she finally turned and trotted off back down the trail. I assume that she had twins, and that the dog ran into the middle of them, with one fawn taking off and his predatory instinct kicking in, all of his barking must have alerted the doe and thrown her into high gear. If I hadn't been there she probably could have finished him off with a couple more kicks.

    Brownie Time!

I went out looking for old whites this morning, my jaw dropped when I saw the first one: blood, hair, and silver-skin inside the pedicle! 10 minutes later and I had the match! I've got 2 previous year singles off this buck. Haven't scored him up yet, but I'm guessing 100-105.

    Slow around here

Here's a couple latleys I've picked up lion kill in January: I hunted this guy last year, got video of him in velvet and hard horned, never saw him during December bow season, this was why... wierdo in February: notice all that green stuff on the ground, gonna be a good year. matched up this morning: Father in law found the other side a few weeks ago during HAM hunt. Now he's got a 95 inch set.

    Slow around here

Its the same rack that he had last year, I'd last seen him alive in February... Also, there's lions back there, and few hunters (cept the thief who stole my camera).

    Lookin for horns

You're the kind of guy I have nightmares about every time I go shed hunting... Has 'he' been here already? Is that why I can't find anything? Unfortunately for me its usually just cuz I'm a crappy shed hunter...
