"PROMINAR" Lens - One of the major causes of deterioration of viewing quality in optics is chromatic aberration (color blur). Chromatic aberration occurs due to the dispersion of light and the different wavelengths of light focusing on different positions, resulting in a red or purple fringing around the image. The optimum optical material to minimize chromatic aberration is fluorite crystal. A fluorite crystal with extremely low dispersion characteristics is used for the convex lens of the TSN-884 PROMINAR model. In place of an ordinary optical glass lens, the concave lens paired with the fluorite crystal lens is made of glass with special dispersion properties to reduce the chromatic aberration to a further degree. This combination of fluorite crystal and glass with special dispersion properties nearly eliminates chromatic aberration and redefines the standards of color brilliance. This technology is the result of many years of optical design and has realized great reduction in chromatic aberration, while maintaining a large diameter lens and high contrast images when compared with conventional models. The XD lens used in the TSN-884 PROMINAR model has characteristics similar to those of fluorite crystal to significantly reduce the chromatic aberration. All lenses are environmentally friendly Eco-Glass. (Eco-Glass is an environmentally friendly glass that does not contain lead or other harmful substances.) Fluorite crystal - Kowa uses the fluorite crystal exclusively in its flagship spotting scope and large binocular models. The fluorite used as make an optical lens is an artificially grown mono-crystal with "ultra-low dispersion", a characteristic that ordinary optical glass does not have. It is an ideal lens material that almost completely eliminates chromatic aberration (color blur). The fluorite crystal produced by the sophisticated processing technology that Kowa has accumulated over the years guarantees the ultimate viewing experience. Doug from Camera Land's Day 4 SHOT Show Report I started my day with Sightron. As I've already shared with you they just released 2 new series of scopes. Sightron S6 1-6x24, S6 1-6x24 FFP - LRT S6 1-6x24 SFP - IR4A - These should be available around the end of February. The new 5-30x56's should be in around the end of March. Both of these scopes are made in Japan. Sightron’s engineers gave thoughtful consideration in designing a LPVO (low power variable optic) to meet the demanding needs of 3-gun competitors, tactical operators and close-range hunters. First, using the finest Japanese glass combined with Sightron’s exclusive MC-777 lens multi-coating, gives the shooter amazing clarity, contrast, and excellent light transmission all while reducing flare. I was excited to see the new Frontier LRF 8x42 & 10x42 Rangefinder Binoculars Optics looked nice at the edges, no blue cast to the vision (Can't really do an optics evaluation inside a convention center) and 6 controllable brightness settings on the LED readout. Its range finding capabilities include: Distance, Rain, Hunt, Near, Horizontal Distance and Angle modes. The display brightness can be manually adjusted between 6 levels of brightness. The LRF requires a 3V CR2 battery and will automatically turn off after 15 seconds of no operation to save power. I was contacted a few weeks ago by a rep I once worked with over at Steiner. He is now with Pard Nightvision. Out of a combination of curiosity of what he's been up to the last few years and what Pard was all about I made an appointment to meet up with him. After catching up he started showing me why I wanted to carry Pard as spec wise it is impressive, however, I stopped him after the response to my question "Is Pard a USA company". It is a Chinese company. We understand that many of the brands we carry source product from China. That's fine as it's a world market place, however, the profits from those companies stay here in the USA. Pard is a Chinese company so all $$$$ stay in China. I'm sure it's a great product from what he was saying, however, we prefer not to support a Chinese owned brand. Coincidentally, my next meeting was with Steiner. Doug from Camera Land's Day 1 SHOT Show Report SHOT Show Day 1 was a very busy day. I actually started yesterday with a Monday meeting with Kowa Optics. At this time Kowa is only revealing that we will see some new editions before the year is out. They have been on top of getting their new Alpha quality TSN-99 Series into us and they are extremely well reviewed. A little out of the ordinary way for me to start SHOT Show this year, I met Rod of Astra Optix outside the main hall to discuss their HBX 1600B 10x42 Rangefinder Binocular. We spoke before Thanksgiving and Rod sent his HBX 1600B 10x42 Rangefinder Binocular into us to check out. It's a 10x42 1760 Yard LCD Laser Rangefinder Binocular. Nothing fancy, however, it does have Angle mode, Archery mode, Ballistic mode and Scan mode. It grabbed our interest because optically it was very pleasing and it's only $499.99. There's absolutely a place for a good optical quality 10x42 Rangefinding binocular that's only $499.99. It would great to meet with them and have a discussion and I believe we will be bringing these in. Stay tuned for more details. I entered the show and headed over to a meeting with Athlon. Great to see my friend and rep Drake. After catching up he showed me the new HERAS SPR Riflescopes and their new Talos BTR Gen 2 Riflescopes . The Outdoor Wire was nice enough to post this Athlons Twenty-Four New Products Revealed article, which makes my writing easier. In my opinion Athlon is doing everything right to become a top optics brand. Every year Athlon refines and grows, without trying too much at once. At $999.99 this scope is a winner. All these features in a standard designed riflescope (No odd bumps or whatnot in the design). As if this introduction wouldn't have been enough next I checked out their new Signature LRF 10x42 Rangefiner Binocular (yes, LED with brightness control) 5 - 2600 yard range and priced below what I expected at only $999.99. Just when I thought I couldn't be more impressed I was told about (They did not have one here) the Summer 2023 release of their coming Signature HD 15x56, Made in Japan binocular priced at only $799.99. Burris, way to make Day 1 exciting, thank you. As many of you know we went big halfway through last year with Revic Optics and Tripods. It was great meeting with them as I have been speaking with my rep for months and it was great to finally meet him. Their Tripods are excellent and so worth you taking a moment to investigate. We discussed their Acura Series Spotting Scopes with Reticle Eyepiece. My buddy said he really likes that the eyepiece is both MIL and MOS and not intrusive. The optical quality is superior to most. If you're not familiar with Revic Spotters you should be. Take a moment and check into them. Next stop was at Pulsar to discuss what was exciting and new. I was not disappointed. I was looking forward to my next meeting at Swarovski. I got to catch up with my buddies for a bit and then we discussed what's been going on with their new computer system and the issues with folks getting in contact.
