Dan, Great mature buck, and such a good looking rack, was glad to see it in the field and chat with you and your dad. The last time I saw a smile that big I was next to a lottery winner .. Keep up the good work, especially with your posse of young hunters. Mike

Congrats Sean, very nice buck. I backpacked in this year into 23 wilderness but just got skunked.. I do have a very easy to follow instruction sheet for measuring, pm me w/your email and i can send it. Mike

Congratulations to you for putting pops into position and all of the background work, and obviously for pops to get that great buck and experience more time in the woods. Well done.

Fantastic job getting everyone out and getting shots and being accurate, lots of prep work that paid off... Congrats. -
You know you're addicted to coues when.....

when the only time you chase your wife is during hunt season when she waves a white hankerchief on her butt and trots around the house, or, basspro shops. -
Happy BDay. Thanks for the site for us all to play. Best success hunting this season.

a few more glassing thoughts for getting started.. consider using a grid for glassing, pick an area like a rectangle do a broad pass for obvious bodies and parts, then go back and go real slow (per above notes).. i like to mix the quick big passes across the area for walkers, then go back to the slow detailed grid for the slow ones. once you've found a deer (or bush/rock just for practice) practice switching from your bino position (on tripod) to getting your rifle and scope into position (maybe on sticks) (and in reach when you're glassing). often deer can't be found again during that switch, and get used to finding land marks as reference points around your target so you can return to it, and/or looking in a straight line up to like a mtn top, or low for a close shrub/rock to line you up so you can return to the exact spot where the grey ghost is. lastly, when hunting with someone, practice telling your partner where to find your deer, using reference points like above, so they can watch the deer and you can get set up... nothing worse than when they sneak off and you cant find them again after all of your time and money and emotion invested.. and practice your long shots and know your ballistics/bullet drop. knock em down

Congrats to pops on this fine merriams gobbler. RL (mzlloader), with Arizona Trophy Hunter, was guiding the trip and called this gobbler in on the second day. There were a handful of hunters in the area, so the pressure was getting to the birds. This gobbler was hesitant so RL switched to coax the hen, which started coming in faster than the tom and wanting to check out this female intruder. The gobbler surprisingly came in on the side, and walked right in front of pops like 3 yards and Gunner remained still and camo'd, then the gobbler walked about 15 yards past him which then enabled him to adjust and shoot, the gobbler dropped in his tracks. His beard was about 7 inches. Congrats to the Gunner, who's 76 this year and humpin hills with the enthusiasm of a young recruit. And thanks to RL (mzlloader) with Arizona Trophy Hunter.com, great time and good work, look forward to more adventures. Good luck to everyone this year.

Hi All, My girlfriend really likes getting out on hunt trips and shooting, and is now ready to get a tag. She's been using a 30-30 but it's a little heavy and short ranged. This .243 rifle size is perfect being lite weight and longer ranged, plus it fits in my backbackp for long trips. I found one at Cabelas for about $520, but seeing good used guns at pawn shops in the $300 range, I'm trying to hold out. Would appreciate any heads up if any one sees one at any pawn shops or gun stores. Lastly, I'm hoping this qualifies as a mother's day gift . For those without supporting partners, keep trying, and scouting trips help get them interested.

Inspiring hike and fabulous story, seeing nature the way most people never do. My feet are hurting -
Hey TexasHunter.. for an entertainment longshot.. if this would be something appropriate for a free middle-aged rock band to play at send me an IM, a couple guys on here play guitars and spoons too that can jump in, and I have a band website you can checkout with set list, pro gear and just fun..
-
This is kind of LOL, but I play rock drums and some latin percussion, but would be fun if any other CWT enthusiasts play music (guitar, bass, sing) and we could jam at get-togethers. I don't play in a band anymore due to my work travel schedule but I can do some practices at my house or in rented studio, get a handful of tunes down, and play out sometime... how fun is that. ANyone interested or know of anyone cool like CWT'ers, lets chat. Some Nugent, old school 70's through 00's, couple of coldies, etc. Mike

Ah ha, well all we need is a bass player and an excuse to have a party

Great accomplishment, effort and story..

Great work and great first buck.

I'm picking up a bull at Taylormade shortly and he also has a couple other species in the queue. I've seen his shop and his work looked good - eyes, ears, lips, nose, lashes, whiskers, etc, I guess a solid average. I will give this bull a good check before leaving and agree it is up to the purchaser to examine and ask to have anything redone before leaving. I think he does fair work and his overhead is low which drives the prices lower. I've recommended him to a few others that are having work done.

I'll be returning to 36b from Nov 9th - 11th also with a leftover tag, was fortunate to get an 85 incher in there last year , I have a couple spots but if anyone wants to glass/hunt during this time drop me an IM.
