Nice pics, I went into 36B last weekend and got washed out by the massive storm on Saturday, had a wide beamed 3 pointer 50 yards from the road and I did not have my glasses for a good pic so I zoomed in, hope it comes out. The greenery is incredible, handfull of does as usual, and a couple vulchers through the glasses chowing on something. I'm back out for archery then October rifle. Good luck.

Although it is not a coues, this is an impressive 7 pointer. It dwarfed pops who is about 5'7". Found it while deer hunting in unit 10. In comparison it dwarfed the other shed which was a very small and likely first year 6 pointer. Good luck this year.

i like to manage my time between hunting/looking and very quietly reading one page at a time, then back to looking, moving your eyes mostly and minimal to no head movement. Your butt had to be confortable. Sun-up to sunset can be a long 12 -14 hours, but I dont suggest headphones, as they're too loud, distracting, and the electronics negates the love of the hunt which is appreciating all of the living things, feeling the earths energy, and maintaining a heightened level of awarreness for the deer/bucks/lions arrival. Stay in the zone. Good luck, great buck.

October Arivaca get together.

I'll be down with pops and brother again, going archery first then October tag. -
All good stuff, and I also like to cover my clothes in the local dirt, needles or scrub brush upon arrival to smell like the environment. Even after a sweaty morning, before the evening hunt if I can't get back for a quick shower or rinse off, i'll roll around in the dirt so my tops and bottoms absorb the local smell for a fresh dose of cover exactly like the hunt area.

along with being a great deer, a good quality mount for sure, the coat shines. one of mine from 9 years ago is seperating in the mouth and nose area, so the investment is worth it.

Hello guys, I'm upgrading my rifle scope to aid in long range shots and am questioning how accurate the scopes are with the Bullet Drop Compensators. Like the Nikon BCD or Leupold B&C models. I'm not a competitive shooter so I dont think that having adjustable turrets is matched with my skill set for real-time huntign situations, but I'm wondering if these BCD levels are really accurate. For example if I'm zero'd in at 100 yards, I'm skeptical that the 200, 300, 400 pre-set crosshair in the reticles are automatically accurate when the variables such as rifle caliber and bullet type (assuming normal factory load. I have a couple good 38 inch muleys with rifle, elk with bows, but want to take a good coues up 300 - 400 yards - and realize practicing is most important. Thanks for any tips and best success this year.

Advice on Scope BDC's for long range shots
Atypical replied to Atypical's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Great feedback and good to hear they're reliable to 475-500 yards, this has really helped me make the decision. It's done and mounted. I'm looking forward to alot of practice in the field following archery coues season. And for AZP&Y, I hope the two pics were attached successfully for the 38 inch mulies, one from Idaho and one from Ashurst Lake, AZ. So, now I'm looking for a bigger coues than the little 3 pointer I have and two more trips to 36b this year I'm hoping will get me closer. Good luck archers on the 24th! See you in the field. -
Advice on Scope BDC's for long range shots
Atypical replied to Atypical's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Thanks guys for the comments, I bought the Leupold 55265 4.5-14x40 with the B&C reticle and will practice alot in the 300 and max 400 yard ranges shooting a 30.06. I got the 36B early tag this year. Good luck and appreciate the feedback! -
Best Archery Dealers/Shops in the Valley
Atypical replied to archeryasu's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
Another Archery Headquarters vote, George, Randy and the guys are attentive, knowledgable and cool. ALong with the air conditioned practice range lanes, they have the target video dart system. Average prices, but I'd rather pay a little mroe to suppport my local store to help they stay in busines versus saving 5-10% online or elsewhere. Good hunting. -
Good to read this thread, appreciate the comments. I have been successfully shooting a 30-06 for 25 years for elk and deer, but am thinking of getting a 300 Win Mag to improve odds for the longer shots, like 400 yards and then unsure if it's practical to go any further. Any opinions if there is a substantial difference between the two to justify upgrading? Considering bullet would be a good long range factory load, 130 or 150 grain, boat tail. The balistics charts that suggested two feet or more seemed nearly too much to hold high, so good to learn I can get the better scopes that will compensate for this to then hold dead on. Cheers, Mike

Nice tracks, here is a good turkey site that can help interpret your sign. They state a good gobbler track is over 4 1/2 inches in length and yes, gobbler poop is J-shaped. This track is well over 4 1/2 inches (front finger to rear thumb), as a dollor bill measures 6 inches. http://www.wildturkeyzone.com/hunting/scouting.htm You've probably seen this, as the NWTF recognizes only spur and beard for their official score, but they may have something on track length that I have not seen. http://www.nwtf.org/all_about_turkeys/how_to_score.html Good work bakpacking in on foot when roads are closed, that is certainly not road hunting. Good luck, someone's got the Gobbler Fever!
