Fall hunt recommendations are up on G&F site

For unit 33, there were the 300 muley tags, 2150 coues tags, 200 muzzleloader "any" tags, and 300 youth "any" tags(150 per hunt). So last year the tag total was 2950 not counting archery otc

    Happy Birthday Patrick

Thanks everyone! I went this morning and shot some skeet with my father, just he and I. Then went home and met up with one of my best friends and we spent a couple hours shooting our bows. More fun tonight

In my opinion, don't shoot a bobcat if you are going to leave it.

Javelina hunting with 100 year old rifle

Thanks everyone. Pigs are giving me trouble the past couple weekends, It's been a pain trying to get my dad in on some. It should happen soon.
  7. On Friday January 22nd, my buddy Reyes and I left school early heading out to find some pigs as it was the opening day of the junior pig season. Got to the glassing spot around 2 and my friend John arrived with his daughter who had a tag. They went to a different knob about a half mile away. At 4:45 I found a pair of pigs below me at 230 yards. I quickly called John and Taylor over. All four of us worked in and were shortly sitting 150 yards from the two pigs. Because there were only two pigs we decided to shoot at the same time, had there been more I would have let her shoot first then I shoot one that stands around. John counted to 3 and we both fired. I could see I hit mine but she missed hers. Mine ran over the hill and into a little cave. I was in a rush because I was leaving for Mexico the next morning and only had that afternoon to hunt. This was my biggest/oldest javelina ever. My father aged him at 7+. I shot this big boar using my 6.5x55 Swedish Mauser that was made in 1916. (The original stock was broken when we got it so we had to put a synthetic stock on it). My dad loaded up some accubonds that make this rifle a perfect javelina gun. Reyes even got the killshot on video! Thanks to Reyes, John, and my father! For reference, I am 6 feet tall
  8. thanks. I just got into AZ duck hunting in December. Nobody taught me anything about it. I just went out and glassed every pond I could find and if it had ducks i would stalk them. I felt that if i was able to get within the range of my shotgun (<35 yards) i would shoot them on the water. Im very sorry if you think this is classless, maybe you should teach me how to properly shoot ducks. I sure know my way around a shotgun and wouldnt mind proving it. I thought maybe you learned from your "sick of hearing about you miss" thread that just because you think you have higher standards than some of us that you shouldnt look down your nose at us. Thanks again for the comment though.
  9. I killed 5 ducks on a single pond in December with 3 shells. First shot was A single, then two flyers across fell to the second shot and two sitting on the water with the third you shoot them sitting on the water? I did. They were divers and were under the water when I shot the first two times. They popped up next to eachother.

For one thing its none of your FUCKING BUSINESS its between him and me So go xxxx YOUR SELF in the name of the lord jesus? i was giving you the benefit of the doubt too. Ya may have touched a nerve there. I wonder how the cameras played a role in him shooting this deer. The guy sounds pretty salty after shooting a nice coues deer with a bow

    Javelina with a Recurve

This hunt was the first time I've ever hunted with a bow in my hand. I am shooting a recurve mostly because it is so expensive to have a compound. I was shooting instinctive and all these are spot and stalk. On January 2nd, I missed a pig at 23 yards. I got so excited that I didn't even get my bow arm straight before I released 😂. The arrow landed at the pigs feet. On the 3rd, when it was awfully windy and cold, my buddy John and I were working the little cuts and draws to find them. We found them and started getting in. After quite a bit of crawling we were within 20 yards of a couple pigs. I soon realized that just to my left on the other side of a prickly pear, a pig was feeding. It steps out and as soon as I draw it turns and faces me. It walks even closer and is at 7 yards. As it turns to take off, I shoot over its back. Another approaches us and is at 10 yards, I shoot and hit right under its chest. I missed two other shots in the moments following. I had still yet to get a broadside standing shot but Im not making excuses I should have pounded one of those. On January 9th, John and I went out to a spot we liked that we knew was going to be covered in snow. We saw lots of deer but no pigs. Did a big loop and cut some pig tracks in the snow, followed them and ran into the herd. The herd was acting very funny and spooked so we figured there was no way we could get close. That evening we went to a spot I had been to, but never seen pigs, I always thought it looked amazing. John found a herd and the race was on. A little after 4:45, we found the herd again and were within 50 yards. One pig didn't like something and started walking up the hill, John said he was going to start calling. He started blowing on the call and we saw the single pig turn on a dime right to us and the rest of the herd we could see coming through the trees. It looked like a herd of buffalo was running right at us. The first shot I had was at a sow with a red but let that one go obviously. Then a half grown pig came and I was at full draw but John called me off. I was honestly gonna whack that pig. Then One runs right at me, it gets to two yards and I release in self defense. The arrow deflects off the right side of the pigs head! Then another one walks out perfectly broadside at 5 yards, I draw and release. I see my yellow fletch inch disappear behind the shoulder. The arrow couldn't have hit in a more perfect spot. Pig runs off revealing the blood soaked arrow sticking in a prickly pear on the other side of where the pig was. Perfect pass through. My pig runs 10 yards and expires. Never have I felt so satisfied in my life. I had my first archery kill. Practicing for months, missing shots on pigs and finally getting one with one of my best friends sitting next to me. Without John I never would have had any of the opportunities that I did. He is the best archer I know and is an awesome teacher. And my father put in a lot of work helping me get my arrows and bow set up. And without his coaching, I don't know if I would have ever been able to be proficient enough to hunt. We had quite the nasty packout but made it back to the truck at 730. Below is a pic of how I carried the pig out (gutted)

    Javelina with a Recurve

I told John after I missed the first one that if I had killed it, I truly wouldn't have worked for it, and the misses only make the final result so much sweeter

Yes it is a Samick Sage
  16. A buddy of mine wanted to go calling last week and he said that we might jump a few ponds so I bought my first federal stamp. We never saw a duck. I wanted to make use of this $25 sticker I bought, so this week I told myself I was going to kill some ducks. On Monday, I jumped a pond and got my first duck in Arizona, a shoveler hen. Also the first duck I've ever killed pond jumping. I went out yesterday (Wednesday) and did a couple fox stands, I got a fox into 6 yards but didn't shoot. After I jumped one pond and missed what I thought was a blue wing. Found 2 shoveler on a pond and got real close. I was able to get my first drake shoveler. On the next pond I checked it but didn't see anything then I walked onto the birm and a greenwing jumps up and I have my first greenwing teal! Went out deer hunting with my dad today and threw the shotgun in the truck with the remaining shells I had from the box I started with. After the morning hunt, we drove up to a pond and I saw there were a bunch of ducks on it. I snuck up and once again thought I was looking at some blue wings. I run up to the edge of the water and shoot a duck and the one behind it also falls. Then two shoveler drakes fly across my face at ~ 30 yards and one shot puts both of them in the water. Then I see one more duck and I shot it. 5 ducks with 3 shots! I had no idea what I had just done. Turns out all the ducks I thought were blue wings were ringneck hens! I was so upset! What a rookie move. I should have noticed them diving. One of the shovelers from today was really nice and my dad said if I don't shoot a nicer one, he will split the cost with me to have it mounted! That being said, can anyone give me some recommendations for a really good bird taxidermists in Tucson? But any guy in AZ will work if their work is stellar!
  17. I jumped a big pond the other day and there were 8 honkers on it. How I wasn't able to drop one is beyond me
  18. No problem, and good luck. There will be plenty of Cinnamon's around throughout the season in southern AZ. You will need to go east a few states to reliably find Blue Wings. I blew it. Today I went out and checked a pond that had 8 Canada geese. And these weren't the little cacklers either they were the big honkers. I wasnt prepared with the correct shot size and couldn't get one to hit the ground From what I hear, they are extremely rare to find down here. I also shot a beautiful greenwing
  19. Yes, after looking online at some shoveler mounts, I have realized that this one isn't exactly the best. Thanks for the help. Someone told me that blue wings and cinnamon should be in Mexico already so don't plan on seeing one. I'm am going to keep at it and hopefully shoot a duck worthy of mounting. I already have a mallard of mine from Oklahoma mounted and my dad has a widgeon mounted so it will have to be a different species than those.
