  1. As soon as I finished posting my other topic about seeing another truck heading north, I saw your white truck heading north on 87. About 5:10 when I saw ya. Had the sticker in the bottom drivers side rear window. The sticker was split up, had coues on top, and whitetail.com underneathe that. Wasn't able to see the make/model because I just looked up to see you driving past haha. Coueswhitetail convoy heading north on 87 today.
  2. Saw you heading north on 87, about 35 miles south of Payson. Had a white coueswhitetail sticker on your rear camper shell window. Was about 4:50, I was in the Sonoma you drove past. Not sure on the color of truck, didn't see the sticker till you were 30 yards in front of me.

I swear by the Buck 110, Use the Kershaw knife set for the gutting and sawing of bones. The Buck 110 rocks for cutting apart the meat and skinning. Never had to sharpen the knife yet.

    Remington 700 M40 Long Range

I love mine. Modeled mine after the m40a3 set-ups used overseas. Mine is chambered in .308, feel comfortable shooting at game to about 500-600ish yards. My elk last year at 301 yards, double lung. Extra weight definitely is tiresome, but I pack around 40 pounds in my pack, and the rifle is in at 16 1/2 pounds. Just get a nice sling/pack for the rifle, and truck on.

    First Archery Memory

My first time/first day hunting with archery opening day last year. I was in a treeline with my Dad and his goodfriend along a welltraveled game trail. We're novice hunters, and we were just waiting for the sun to go down a bit more. After waiting for about 2 hours, sharing stories of past hunting or fishing experiences, I noticed a deer running out of the tree line about 250-300 yards down the meadow along the tree lines. I saw it, and looked at it, asked my dad to glass it and see if he saw antlers. He did. So being the novice hunter I was, I decided to pickup my Trophy buck grunter, and let out a grunt, that sounded more like a cross between a unicorn and an elk. I saw the deer's head snap towards us, and got extremely excited. There was a big erosion-made ditch in front of us, and the deer dropped into that about 250-300 yards out. I nocked an arrow, and put my release on the string, and looked up to try to find the deer. Thing was, he found me first. I couldn't believe how fast he covered the distance. He erupted out of the ditch and was staring dead at me. The buck was a 3x3 Coues, and I could see it's muscles flexing, It kept beating it's hoof on the ground. I was pretty sure I was about to get shanked by the deer's antlers lol. My dad was about 10 yards to my right, and he ranged the deer at 22 yards. Which means it was less than 15 yards from me. It was staring dead at me, quarter towards. Buck fever began to set in, I was trying to stop my leg from shaking. My breaths were shallow, so I was trying to breathe so that way I wouldn't pass out lol. Then, the buck suddenly took a step towards the left, perfect broadside shot available. It's head looked the other way for a second, and I began to draw, It suddenly snapped back when I was in mid draw. I didn't want to pull back the rest of the way, and I didn't want to let the string go forward for fear of scaring the deer. So I kept slowly pulling back every so slightly. It was looking dead at me the entire time. When I pulled the arrow the rest of the way back, my arrow hit against my rest, and I hurt a *Tick* this sent the deer immediately 180 degrees and bouding away. I was sitting there, doing the merps and meeps you always heard on TV, trying to get it to turn to have a shot. Sadly, it took off and never looked back. But I definitely learnt alot from this experience, and took alot from it. It is one of my favorite hunting memories with my father, and I will surely cherish it forever. Me and him have a little bet going. Whoever tags out on the first archery deer gets to hang the mount on the wall above our fireplace. (I'd be happy with a spike, any deer would be a trophy in my eyes.)

    School Me On Unit 10

Talked with the Wildlife Manager at an Elk Clinic a couple weeks back about the same thing, The corner, Boquillas Ranch, and the section north of the corner are the only places currently open. I'd try giving the ranchers/owners of private land a call though, most of them, as long as you don't show up looking like rambo asking to hunt their land the day of, will entertain your request. Do a bit of prescouting, if you see something is wrong with their ranch/property, IE broken fences, watering tanks empty, gates that should be closed that are open, or other hunters, mark it down and let the rancher know, better yet, fix it yourself if you could. Little things will go a long way. Something else good to look at would be the AZaccess map provided by the AZGFD, has all the areas that are open/accessible listed on the map.

    New youth hunter - questions

Congrats on your kid drawing a tag!!! From my knowledge, the restrictions for you carrying a firearm are: no rifles can be carried by the tagholder if the tag holder is on an archery/HAM hunt. Only during General hunts. Didn't find anything as far as the hunting party carrying a rifle, but as long as you don't assist in the shooting of the game, you're golden.;P 85 gr. bullet will definitely do the trick, I'd just reccomend bonded bullets. Don't have any kids of my own yet, but my father helped me with my first animal, I had to get my hands a little dirty, even though he did most of the work. haha. Goodluck on the hunt, will be expecting a good writeup after the seasons over!!! -Seth
