that is one problem with the system , i hate to say and be an a** but you should be proficient with a bow before you put in...cbryant One needs to be proficient to hunt, not fill out an application. As long as one is willing to put in the time and effort to become proficient and ethical with a bow prior to the hunt that is all that matters.

I put in for archery elk, partly so that my dad and I won't have competing hunts. If I am lucky enough to draw I will buy a bow. Once I get proficient with it, I am sure I will enjoy the challenge and rush of a bow hunt. I had more than enough "buck fever" with a rifle in hand. I can only imagine what it would be like with a bow in hand!

I took my first javi this year and I've decided to get it mounted. Can anyone recommend a good taxidermist in the Phoenix area, preferrably in the east side of town?

I would gladly trade a window or a door for a mtn lion mount. -
Whats In A Name

Buck is self explanatory. Buck Nasty was a character on the Dave Chappelle tv show. -
My yellow lab is now 1 yr old. The early months can be difficult. Be forewarned, they like to eat furniture (like any dog I am sure), but after a few months they turn out to be great dogs.

Nice Coues buck
BuckNasty replied to azpackhorse's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
After further review, that looks like my buck. If you would, go ahead and take him to a taxidermist. Get a nice mount done. Then, call me and I will come and pick him up. Thanks for saving me the work. -
I put in for a leftover javelina permit, but haven't heard anything from G&F. Did I strike out again? Or, have they not completed the leftover tag draw?

Spring Javelina - Leftover permits
BuckNasty replied to BuckNasty's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
You are right. I called and got the tag I wanted. They just don't show leftover tags on the website, one has to call or wait for the tag in the mail. -
WOW! Great Bull. I thought he was going to step on you! As someone else asked, how far away was he at the closest? Looked like he was so close the arrow couldn't be released from the bow!

I didn't draw an elk tag this year. Hypothetically speaking........If I was to go jogging and carry a handgun for self defense against bears....then "accidentally" be "unlucky" enough to get a monster bull to charge, could I keep the meat and have a mount of the horns made?

My first rifle was, and still is, my great grandfather's 30-40 Krag. I don't know if it was used in WWI, but it dates back to the era. My brother and I share some other guns, but this one remains our first long gun. And while my father, brother and I carried several guns in the field last year during our hunt, I ended up using it to take my first big game animal, a bull elk. The iron sights sure didn't help with my first experience of "buck fever". But at 80 yards, the gun was up to the challenge. We got a sense of satisfaction knowing that grandpa's gun got the credit and that he's around to hear about the hunt. We've decided since then that we won't always get a chance to be so close, so we are going to get a Rem 300 ultra mag...as soon as we get drawn again for big game that is!

SouthEast, NorthWest, Northeast......Ah, that means these deer were all taken in the Center of Arizona...I knew I should have put in for unit 42 M.

saw this last week elsewhere, very good. -
I will second what was already posted about the Reddington Pass area. I too hunted for my first coues in 33 last year. It was very crowded and I only ended up seeing muleys. If I was to do this hunt again, for what it is worth - coming from one whose first coes hunt was last year, I would go as far west into the back side of Mt Lemon as I could. It was difficult, rocky terrain, but that would be the best way to get away from the crowds. There are some trails, I don't remember the names, but they went west into the area I am thinking. Big canyons you could glass for days. Good luck and let us know how this hunt turns out.

I too was looking at the Alaknak tent. AZguide, you mentioned that you also have a canvas wall tent. What's the difference between a canvass wall tent and something like a Alaknak? If I was going to get one, which would you recommend, a canvas wall tent or something along the lines of an Alakank? Thanks

I am considering purchasing a GPS unit after last year, where the hike back to camp is never a straight line and never seems to be as efficient as the walk out in the morning. Anyone have any experience using a GPS unit and would suggest a specific brand and model? Thanks.

Hunters looking out for Hunters
BuckNasty replied to crotalus's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Anybody get my tags delivered to their house? I am missing a sheep, antelope, elk, and coues tag. I wasn't drawn, but I am still holding out that there was a mistake and somebody will be delivering my tags... -
Thank you for all the suggestions, wow! I now have specific makes and models to compare, which is helpful when there are so many out there with so many different features. This is an example of why this website is so valuable. Thanks.

Great. how do I do this? By mail or phone? To whom do I address the request if mailed? Or, which department do I ask to speak with? thank you very much, Jim.
