Spot and stalk, tree stand or blind?
Dustin F replied to Dustin F's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I'll stick to spot and stalk even tho I have not been lucky enough to harvest a deer I did blow a stalk yesterday got close enough for the shot and got busted when I drew back but it was a rush either way it only made for a long walk back with an empty pack -
I have a 2200 in max 1 I am willing to part ways with it is in great shape if you are still in the market?

2014 Swarovski SLC 15x56 HD with Tripod
Dustin F replied to lundellhunting7's topic in Classified Ads
How much cash if he were to take the non hd slc? And would he do just the glass I don't need the tripod -
If you care about your ride I would stay away from 68d for sure but if you are ok with driving half in the ditch most of the time and drive a beater like me it's not so bad but it is very sloppy there is not a window on my jeep that you can see through

i know exactly what you are going through. I drew my first elk tag ever in september after putting in for 6 years straight and it was a unit 8 early archery tag. i had so much anxiety going in to that hunt and then after my experience on opening morning being 40 yards rom a 340 bull with no shot, i thought it was going to be too easy, then realty set back in because the rut was non existent for the next 5 days and i ended up full of anxiety again, after missing a shot on day 4 at a 300 inch 6/6 i ended up shooting a 5/5 on day 8 of the hunt and i couldn't be happier. All of the hype seemed to be everyone else's expectations for my hunt but once you realize that you can't eat horns and a dead 285 5/5 bull is just as dead as a 350 6/6 it all comes together. good luck on the hunt.

Ya so right where you turn to go north off dugas road to go in to willow springs if you look to the south there is a single knob with flats all around it I was on that knob when I glassed him i shot him just north of the canyon I glassed him bedded down and put the stalk on was it a left shoulder shot? I hope that was him because it's been eating at me since it happened that I let one rot it was the Saturday before Xmas and he was a 3/3 last year

Oh nice deer by the way that's gettin it done

Was the broad head a g5 t3 3 blade with a chisel tip because I hit a nice 3/3 in December and never found arrow and tracked him for two days in 21 off of dugas road on one of the roads to Pine mountain.

I had a flight of about 15 dove come between me and another hunter about 200 yards away and not only did he swing on them he peppered me my dog and my truck and I gave him a peice of my mind I was more pissed that he hit my dog than me or my truck and not only that I had my limit and was cleaning my birds so I had been there for about 20 min and I watched him pull up and get out of his truck and was only about 50 yards from his truck when it all went down just happy he only had number 8 shot or it might have stung a bit more

Smoked him!!! Smoked him!!! Ha ha what a heck of a hunt and a heck of a hike out with packs full of meat. Congrats on the good buck and can't wait till next time we pack something out.

I used the tanning kit from Sportsmans to do my fox I shot in March and it turned out pretty good I skinned my tubular though so it made it very tough to do it and it took almost 15 hours of labor but it takes about 5 days to get it done my next one I won't do the tube style but it does look kinda cool that way

I have moultrie I think they are the m-8 I got 4 cams for 300 online the cams take awesome pics and trigger speed is great most pics are centered for the most part and the night pics are pretty nice too the only gripe I have is there is not a sensitivity setting so If you have brush grass or tree branches in the 40 foot range you will have maybe 50 pics of animals but you have to weed through 400 pics of moving branches and clouds but it doesn't bother me as much considering the price

Video of my son Isaac and his close calls with a couple bulls
Dustin F replied to GRONG's topic in Elk Hunting
That kid is gonna be a heck of a hunter I can't even get that close to a bull in camo and he wS in street clothes looks like it's time for a bow -
It made it worse when I was already on a heard within 150 yards or so before sun up waiting on shooting light to close in and someone pulls up ant starts sounding off right before shooting light and sends the entire heard the opposite direction so then I was playing catch up the rest of the day

Ha ha I think that guy had a few twins up in 8 for the last two weeks but one of them was in a dodge cummins sounded like straight pipe from turbo back cuz I was a half mile off the road waiting before the sun came up on a draw that the elk use and I could hear tha truck loud and clear. He would turn it off throw out a horrible bugle wait a half a second fire it up and drive another 100 yards and do it again. All we could do was laugh gotta love them dodge Bulls

Ha ha ha ha I would rather bow hunt for a year than rifle. But that would be one heck of a year. sounds like a pretty big dream. good luck and be sure to post how well your plan works out!

I did not use peroxide I put about a cup of bleach and about a cup of royal purple degreaser in with the water and to clarify it was not a rolling boil either just on the verge of a boil but more of a simmer. Once the skull was clean I changed out the water and allowed the head to soak in cold water with another cup of bleach to help kill the smell of any residual material and bacteria

Here is my euro mount from my bull I shot got on Saturday about 8 hours worth of work and all in all not to bad here is the process I started by building a boiling pit out of a 55 gallon drum I had laying around and boiled it for about 6 hours taking it out every so often to scrape and clean and to whiten it I used some ivory satin spray paint as a base and used a flat brown to give it a natural shadowing affect. Again I can't figure out the picture posting so I will put pics up next
