This is awesome. Great story, your son is doing very nice work and learning valuable life lessons. If only the rest of our youth had your sons work ethic. Well done dad.

.308 Secret Sauce??? (Loading Question)
Coues Sniper replied to Stallone A.'s topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thanks Coues Sniper, Yes I have great groups with the A-Max Bullets however last season my son shot his bull elk with it. He dropped the elk in its tracks, he was flopping around for a couple of minutes so we got closer to put another round in him and he just got his footing and took off. Very Little blood (4 drops) and to make a long story short we could never find him. I feel if we had a better bullet like a Berger or ELD-X the initial devastation would have been greater and we would have never lost that bull. I have shot many Coues Deer with the A-max with no problems but an Elk is a lot bigger. I just never want to have that happen again... Sorry to hear that happened to you. The Berger and A-max are similar bullets in that they are both thin jacketed and frangible, so I imagine performance in your situation would have been similar also. Having said that, I wouldn't likely use the 168's for elk either as I prefer overkill. My elk/deer hunting rig is a 300 Norma pushing the 230 grain Bergers. Good luck to you. -

If you have a good load with the amax's, stop there. Excellent hunting bullet, and you can stop the money spiral testing new loads. -
Anyone else see this? Absolutely my dream deer. I'd kill this buck over any other Eastern I've ever seen. Officially 223" gross B&C, 216 Net. Amazing. http://newsok.com/article/5541219

Article made it sound like fair chase. Was on a small chunk of farmland, and was the guys first buck.

Found more pics. Gotta love Google.

I'm assuming the extras account for a lot, but he has 29" beams, and his mass is off the charts Just a crazy frame. Do you still get 4 mass measurements despite the number of tines? That deer has elk-like mass and might make 120-125 on beams+mass. That still leaves a lot of ground for G1's, G2's and spread. I wonder what it scores without junk. Yes, you get 4 mass measurements no matter how many points it has.

Any Idea of how big??
Coues Sniper replied to WHT_MTNMAN's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
I agree he seems young, but WHT, whats going on with his right brow - does it split or something? If so, his right side is outstanding. Depending on what that brow does, and with that great G3 on his right, I'd guess him 105ish? Very nice genetics, if you can turn him up next year, (or even year after) you might be glad you guys didn't kill him. -
Packs are kind of like bows in that they are very subjective. All the bags mentioned above are great, just different people have differnet needs/opinions. The Kuiu bag I have is the best bag I've ever had, IMO. I too was concerned about durability, but its held up much better than I thought it would.

That would mean a WR if other side matched at over 70"

Elkhunter, you're a class guy all the way. Great job.

Thats really cool, good for him. Wish I were closer, I'd definitely give you a few. Good/Bad thing being so far east - I'm 2,700 miles from a Coues deer, but I can literally shoot as many deer as I want. A buddy killed 61 last year. Yes, sixty-one -
Very cool stuff Case, congrats man. Of course, this means she doesn't need your help in the field at all. Looks like many more days of at home daddy duty

You guys had a phenominal hunt, congrats. Looks like you had done your homework too. What did they tape out at?

I use the Kuiu harness for my 10's, and love it. Best I've used. -

"Worst Pig Hunters in Arizona" Break Through
Coues Sniper replied to rossislider's topic in Youth Hunters
I think being bad at hunting pigs means you are actually a good hunter. Which would mean your recent success is a sign you are regressing. My advice, get back out there and hunt some Coues and shake off the new found stink pig mojo. Congrats -
Really nice bucks, congrats. Need more pictures - especially of the double beam buck.

Insert emoji flipping the bird, here. Good to see you around Scotty. Sorry to hear of family issues, but glad it sounds like things are better. Now make with the pictures from the above list. Chop chop.
