First useful bit of info in this thread...

Sorry if I came off that way. I didn't mean to. It's definitely a topic worth discussing. That post was a while back, many folks might not know about that place!
-
Would make a heck of a Chritmas present for someone too. And I would imagine that rig was well taken care of...

Yeah, she does. I brought it up a while back... http://forums.coueswhitetail.com/forums/in...ic=4570&hl= That was actually my first post.

Yes, sammichs are great for early season. Dog days of summer, bucks in velvet (like in your picture). I prefer Fluffer-Nutter sammichs for my archery hunts. But during the later seasons you need the does, which means you gotta have pancakes
-
Ahhhh yes, the "Elusive" mule deer. What you need are pancakes my friend. Pancakes

It very much depends on the time of year. All the way up until about the 1st or 2nd week in December the bucks will usually be in small groups. In my experience this also includes big bucks as the 3 biggest deer I have killed were all with at least one other buck when they were shot. But this was well before the rut when they were still in their summer routines. Once the rut hits, usually bucks will only be in close proximity to one another if there is a hot doe nearby. When the rut actually hits has been argued to death around here, but in my experience douesn't really start till after January 1 in AZ, and January 10 or later in Mexico. If you have a lot of does in your area, bucks should start coming around to check them out a couple weeks before things really get started. Once the rut is over they will slowly become buddies again and group back up. This is just what I have found to be mostly true in my experience, and things can be different from year to year. Good luck to you on your hunt .

Back country bivy Alaska mountain goat hunt. (Pic heavy)
Coues Sniper replied to 308Nut's topic in Other Big Game
Looks like an amazing trip, those pictures are incredible. Congrats on a beautiful goat. But how did you stay "warm and dry" in those conditions - in a bivy??? Congrats again. -
Str8shot's thread of his friend's big 2 point got me all worked up about shooting a monster 2 point myself. I have a goal of shooting a 100"+ 2 point Coues before my hunting days are over. I really like stuff like that. Huge "Management" type bucks . I also have a goal of killing a 3 point Muley over 180, and a 5x5 bull over 365. My old man was chasing a bull up here in NV that was the biggest 5x5 I've ever even heard of. A buddy found his sheds that year and they went 405 - as a 5x5. His thirds were over 31" . Most amazing bull I have ever seen. He was killed a few years later and went 345 busted up. We guessed he was 380 or so if he was whole. I bet there are guys on here that have seen/killed animals like that so lets see some! Post up some pics of your Monster Management bucks and bulls . And if anyone has a B&C book and can look up the biggest 2 point Coues, 3 point Muley, and 5x5 Elk in B&C (If there are any) I'd love to know what they scored. Thanks, Kevin

Monster "Management" bucks
Coues Sniper replied to Coues Sniper's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Found it. Remember this is one of those Kings's recreations, not an actual picture. And I was wrong about his G3's being 31... his right G3 was 33 and 6/8" and even though it doesn't look it, his left was 29". There's not many bulls I'd shoot before that one, 405 as a 5x5... he really gets me going -
Monster "Management" bucks
Coues Sniper replied to Coues Sniper's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Holy Fronts Sweet shed Blake, thanks for sharing. A buddy of mine killed a big 5x6 this year that went 391. He doesn't want the kill pictures posted, but here's a couple of him alive, he's the bull on the left. The kill pics were posted on another site, if anyone's interested PM me and I'll send a link. I also included a huge 2 point Muley that I think is pretty neat. I'd shoot him on just about any tag - look at that frame... I think I'll be pretty lucky to get even one of those goals accomplished, but it would be pretty neat to get all 3. I've seen a few bulls that would qualify, and probably one mule deer, but I don't think I've ever seen a 2 point Coues that would break 100". Close though . The sheds from that huge 5x5 were turned into a King's calendar - I'll see if I can turn that picture up. I also know of a big muley taken in Mexico a few years back that was a 3 point that netted book. I haven't seen it yet, but I'll see if I can hunt down a picture. -

Christmas cards - I'll send a few for sure. That's all this little guy wants? -
Casey, I NEED to see that buck. PM's are fine Thanks Amanda, I'd be interested to hear what you find out. Maybe I'll start a new thread. Coues Sniper, Many years ago a good freind and hunting buddy shot a MONSTER 2ptr! This buck was officially measured by a B&C measurer at 111 1/8" net with a gross score of 114 and some change. Although he was measured I dont beleive he ever entered it. This deer has 20 inch beams--10 inch G2--5 inch eyeguards with a 17 inch inside spread. Unfortunatly I dont have any photos. I'll try to hunt one down. Jim Sounds like a dream deer Jim. Thanks for trying to find a picture for me, I'd really like to see that. Kevin

Willhunt, you get 4 mass measurements per side no matter what. In the case of a 2 point you take the last measurement at 1/2 the distance between the end of the beam and the G2 and use that for both the C3 and C4 measurement. If you look at the figures he posted the C3 and C4 on both sides are the same, which of course makes sense.
