Help name my new hunting buddy!
Coues Sniper replied to Coues Sniper's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Pretty much. Our friend was getting one and said he could get us a deal and my wife was like 'let's get it!'. We talked about it and i thought we should wait till she was out of estitician (sp?) school. Well her stimulus check came, and then he showed up at my party -
Happy B-day Coues Sniper
Coues Sniper replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Thanks guys. The birthday was great. Family, friends, a few cold ones, and some wild pig and buffalo on the grill - it doesn't get much better than that! The wife got me a little present I'll have to post some pictures of here in a few that you guys might like... Thanks again guys -

+1, although i liked the original title much better -
Turrets are the best way to go in my opinion, especially at very long ranges. Get way out there and a pocket PC with Exbal is the ticket

And then some...

I know a few guys in Game and Fish, and that isn't the half of what that guy is charged with. Real piece of work, that guy. (insert zipper mouth smiley here)

I'm planning an archery backpack hunt here in my home state of Nevada this year in a place where we have seen some great bucks from a loooong ways off, but have never been able to actually get in there because we would have to be set up to spend the night (it would take a full day to get there). I'm going to do a couple scouting trips, but as hard a spot this is to get into I want to put up a trail cam or two to maximize my effort. My problem is, I don't know jack about trail cams. Cabelas has about 50 of them, all saying they are better than the next. What is your favorite brand or who do you think puts out the best trailcam? And what about flash vs non flash for pics at night? Thanks in advance guys. Kevin

Trail Cams

That might be something I am interested in... any links? I have no idea where to start. Also, any brand recommendations would still be appreciated as my old man wants to buy one for a buddy as a gift. Thanks. -
still no bucks

LMAO  I just spewed Coke Zero all over my freaking desk! It's burning my nose man! Good point. I guess I just feel sorry for the poor guy. Lucky for me I'm not his type. -

I'd avoid anything that was trying to eat my butt -
I'm with CRB on this one. It's hard to tell, but it looks like the skull cap is about the same size as the other Coues skull in the picture. A mule deer skull would be significantly larger. (Josh is right, better pics would help) I think it's probably the real deal, but who really knows for sure. We could speculate for ever on it and all it would be is just that, speculation. As far as where it came from, I don't put much stock into that having anything to do with the size. Monster deer can pop up anywhere. There is a county here in Nevada that traditionally doesn't produce big mule deer. Matter of fact it's only produced 1 buck that was ever submitted and accepted into the book. That buck however scored in the 320's (I don't remember the exact score) and is number 4 in the world.

RIP UP THOSE AZG&F SURVEY CARDS!!!!
Coues Sniper replied to bowsniper's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I think the "I'm taking my ball and going home" attitude is going to get us nowhere. Fill out the card. We have to at least give them the opportunity to do the right thing! Making the cards mandatory would certainly help. but it's no guarantee. If you don't return your survey in NV, you lose your hunting privileges for the following year. Pretty good incentive. But they've ran our elk herds down into the ground as well. I don't want to get drawn in NV at this point for elk. That's how bad it is. Game and Fish raises quotas for one reason: $$$ They get no money from taxes, so in order to write their own checks, they do everything they can to increase permits. What do they care if trophy quality is going down? They're still going to get more applicants than tags anyways. That's the attitude we need to somehow change. -
The quality with the Crooked Horn just isn't there IMO. Badlands are nice, but i like the Eberlestock better. The pocket organization fits my needs much better than the Badlands. My J104 is the best pack I've ever owned. Both make great packs and have super service.

Good fight. Pulver lasted longer than i thought. It would have been great if he could have pulled it off. That kid (he's actually only 4 years younger than Jens by the way) is just too cocky for me. All i got to say is Torres might be my new favorite fighter. That dude is a STUD.

+1 Elite XC is a joke IMO. That first Affliction card looks pretty good though.
-
Got mine as well. I wish the logo on the front was a little smaller - still a cool shirt though.

That is absolutely re-friggin-diculous. If i had the other side, you'd have to pry it from my cold, dead hands my friend

I'd really like to try them out, I'm sure they are great boots (they ask that you send 5 pictures and an outline of each foot with your order so they can make them fit as perfect as possible ) I'm just not sure i can justify dropping that much cash on boots. They are exactly what I am looking for though. I'm also trying to save for what in all likelihood will be the ultimate hunting rifle of all time as well. I just need more hunting money.

Does anyone have any experience with these? (Hanwag Mountain Light GTX) I usually buy a pair of lightweight Salomon or Vasque boots for Coues hunts, which work great, but they normally get torn up in a season or so and the support isn't the greatest. I'm planning a backpack archery deer hunt in Nevada this year and was looking to step up to some better boots that are still light and warm weather minded, but offer a bit more support and last a while longer. These seem to fit the bill perfect (they weigh like 2 lbs a pair) but they better be freaking awesome at that price. I'm also worried that the Vibram sole may be noisy. Any info is appreciated http://lathropandsons.com/catalog/product_.../products_id/63 Thanks, Kevin

Lets See your Loading Bench
Coues Sniper replied to GameHauler's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Sexy rig man . I like the paint job, a lot. Do you like those pod claws? What is the benefit besides in sandy soil? Do they reduce recoil? Are they heavy? -
I've decided to (finally) start reloading. I've got the press and accessories all picked out, and am starting to round up the components. Trouble is I can't find what i want. Bullets and powder are pretty easy, but i can't find any Nosler 300 RUM brass or Federal 215 Gold Match primers anywhere! Anyone have any leads on either of them? I'd like at least 100 of the brass, and i'd even be willing to buy a small batch of the primers off of someone (I'll make it worth you while ) if they are willing to part with any. I'm wanting to try different primers but am pretty set on the Nosler brass. Any help is appreciated!! Thanks in advance, Kevin
