    Extreme Couponing

I have a wife. So while that creates the NEED for couponing, it also solves the problem of WHO does it.

    Trekking Poles

Another vote for the Easton carbon fiber poles. Hope they didnt go out of business - gave my set to my old man last season and was planning to repurchase. They were super light, and came in very handy. One of those "don't always need them, but glad I have them when I do" items. Especially if you are coming out heavy.

    Unit #9 Rifle Tag

Biggest muley shed I ever found was in the country nateNAU is describing by Cataract. Went 101 1/8 - and was broken, could have had a lot more than he did. Course, that was a hundred years ago. A lot of that country is flat/rolling with little draws that you can't see from anywhere. Bucks get in there and are hard to turn up.

+1 on Bundy and A3 for scouting packages. That's where I would start. But HURRY, I guarantee those guys have already gotten flooded with calls.

    13B Questions

I'd consider getting a scouting package from an outfitter if you can't afford a fully guided hunt. That place is like a whole different planet, even being in the right places you can go a day or 2 without seeing a deer. Good luck on your hunt, heck of a year to have that tag. And killing from the road does happen more often than you'd imagine. Friend of mine killed a cactus buck in 13b that went in the 220's off the side of the road when they were moving to take a better look at a different deer. Just stood there and looked at him.

    Big Horn Blues

His daughter got drawn for a once in a lifetime tag that he put her in for? That's awful. If this is such a bummer, why didn't he consider putting her in for bonus point only? Did he pony up the 5 bucks for Point Guard? Not that I could ever see anyone just handing a tag like that back in, but considering the level of travesty here...

    Hot weather coues shed

That's amazing. I've dreamed of doing that exact thing. Not to hijack, but another cool thing about that buck - I had originally glassed him from a long ways off a couple days before, and he was acting extremely skittish. Even for a Coues. He would take a step or two, look all around for 30 seconds or more, and repeat. Then, every 20 yards or so he would lay down and lick his hind quarters for a few minutes, then stand up, look around, take a step or two, etc. I thought it was weird, but didn't pay it too much mind. When I killed him, we had to bone him out because we were packed a ways in. Well, my old man was skinning a hind quarter and came to a tough spot. His hide actually went inside the meat on his ham in a vertical line about 8" long. Right next to that, he ran into another line, and then another. I was working on the other hind quarter and ran into the same thing on the back of his knee, but horizontally. When we got the hide off and stepped back and looked at it, it was clear as day - a lion had raked his claws down his ham on one side and tried to swipe his leg out from under him on the other side. It was almost all healed; you couldn't tell without removing the hide so it had to have been some time ago, but it suddenly made sense why he was so skittish.

    Hot weather coues shed

I was putting a move on a buck a lot of years ago in 23, and stumbled on a nice set laying side by side. I stopped, took my pack off, put them in the pack, put the pack back on, and literally took 2 steps and blew a deer out from below me. Put the glass on him, and it was the buck I was stalking; he had gotten out of his bed and moved several hundred yards up the ridge towards me. Luckily, he stopped to look back and I was able to get a shot off and killed him. When I walked up to the buck, I pulled the sheds out, and they were from my buck from the year before. Buck went 104, sheds probably went mid 90's. Thought that was pretty neat.

    Helinox Chair for Glassing?

Doug, I have one and absolutely love it. I'll never glass without one ever again if I can help it. Zero issues with positioning or posture, I set my tripod up so that the center is over my lap and don't have to lean forward as in Scott's photo, and I can glass in total comfort, even in uneven terrain. Anyone I've let try it, doesn't want to give it back; I've given 3 out as gifts. Some may balk at the price, but its built incredibly well, super light weight, and as Scott said, I use it for far more than a glassing chair - its a camp chair, kids soccer game chair, etc. I took it on a backpack trip, and it was worth 10x its weight to lug in. Camofire has had them on occasion, I would call them and see if they have any lying around and save like $30. Honestly can't recommend enough.

    coues shed/regrowth cycles

Deer shed and grow at different times, but that is crazy. I don't see a buck with 3 tines a side by late May even in my neck of the woods. Would be interested to see pics also.

    A GREAT video ...

Really powerful story. The attitude that young man has after what happened to him, I'm not sure I could ever get there myself. Thank God for people like him, the family he has that stayed by his side, and the people who reached out to provide him with that hunt. Helps restore some of my faith in humanity in spite of the nonsense that happens every day.
