I got an American not too long ago in .30-06 and love it so far. It's probably the best rifle you can buy for under $500

I recently got a Ruger American in 30-06 that I plan on using for bear this fall and don't know what grain ammo would be best for shooting out to 400-500 yds. Any advice is greatly appreciated

Thanks everyone for the input. I'm gonna get some 168 and 180 grain Barnes and see which one my gun shoots better -

Here's me from yesterday -
I'm looking to buy a left handed bolt action rifle in either .30-06, 7mm mag, or .300 win mag. I don't really care about the condition of the gun and will spend a max of $500

I don't know of any ways to prevent them and when I get chigger bites they usually last for a month or so

Anyone have a good wild Turkey recipe???
backcountry_brad replied to Big Browns's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
I brine mine in salt water over night and then throw some sage and pepper on it and stick it in the oven. It comes out tender as he11 and super moist -
I think #2's the 350 bull based on mass

That's freakin legit! Would definitely pay to get one of those -
I have had a pheasant and brown trout done with R&R and both turned out good and within a few months but I'll never get a shoulder mount or rug done with them because their turn around time is outrageous

I left Wednesday night to get to camp so I could spend all of thursday scouting and it was a good thing I did. I was in the same area that I've gone to for the last couple years, that had tons of action, and there was barely any gobbling to be heard. After not being able to put any turkeys to bed, I headed to a draw where I did happen to hear some gobblin. I got there around 6:30 and it was silent. So, I decided to put my decoy out and make a little blind on the edge of a meadow where I had seen a tom feeding the day before and do a little calling and see if anything would walk by. After 45 minutes of calling and waiting a group of jakes gobbled out of nowhere a few hundred yds to my left. Immediately I knew they were comin in and I grabbed my gun and turned to the side. Within a couple minutes the goup had circled and started coming in behind me. I waited for them to get closer and then shot the biggest jake in the group at 35 yds. I told myself I was gonna hold out for a tom but after little vocalization I settled for this nice jake and got it done opening morning for the 3rd year in a row!

Wow that's some serious BS. Sounds like typical G&F

You don't have to go with expensive gear. Redington makes great, affordable rods. Lamson reels are also really good that have cheap models.

thanks everyone

Advice Needed on a Youth 20 Gauge Turkey Setup
backcountry_brad replied to rossislider's topic in Youth Hunters
For the last few years I've had success from distances between 15 and 30 yds with my Mossberg 500 in 20 ga and I use #5 shot 3" loads with a ported extra full choke and it patterns great out to 40 yards. I would imagine an 870 20 ga won't be too much different. -
They won't be gobbling much then. Sitting water and still hunting will be most effective

My new account still only shows my previous tags but I got 22S late archery bull
