    UDA'S

So what would bring you to that conclusion... Do you think that when 1 UDA in a group gives up they all do? I would think they leave his or her lonely butt behind ...... Not to mention All the Mules I have ever spotted were not close to any high traveled roads they were way back in the thick ruff stuff that is away from the major roads .... Either way BP should be called
  2. My brother and I scored our Bud's Big Fork (2x2 with eye guards) That was taken out of 36b on the early hunt this year along with a smaller frame 3x2 and a Spike.... This guy was one of the largest bodied Coues I have ever seen as well as the Guy who has been butchering these little guys up for the last 20+ years .... He easily weighed 110 lbs. dressed out and made His maker and our other friend know it as they packed him out over some fun terrain .... He gross scores at 94 6/8

    Ray's 36b Big Fork Scored

Casey, I NEED to see that buck. PM's are fine Thanks Amanda, I'd be interested to hear what you find out. Maybe I'll start a new thread. Coues Sniper, Many years ago a good freind and hunting buddy shot a MONSTER 2ptr! This buck was officially measured by a B&C measurer at 111 1/8" net with a gross score of 114 and some change. Although he was measured I dont beleive he ever entered it. This deer has 20 inch beams--10 inch G2--5 inch eyeguards with a 17 inch inside spread. Unfortunatly I dont have any photos. I'll try to hunt one down. Jim Sounds like a dream deer Jim. Thanks for trying to find a picture for me, I'd really like to see that. Kevin Kevin, When I walked up to that buck on the ground it was very EYE OPENING!!!! I knew he was BIG in the binos! Just not that BIG!! Jim I would Love to See a Pic of that Monster

A Worthless Waste of Hunting Gear

Hearing all this and I have to put up the cure for so many things like that blown out boot thing . .... every camp and pack should have some to take care of the mishaps on the hunt from fixing boots to tents and I have even heard of Gun Stocks broke in half from being dropped on the trail and the magic of duct tape in the pack let em fix it and use it with a kill the same day .... I know I am going against the grain but anything that Macgyver can use is a good thing to have

    Ray's 36b Big Fork Scored

http://www.coueswhitetail.com/how_to_score..._Coues_deer.htm Look under measuring circumference On Coues as all whitetail deer you allways have 4 circumference measurments regardless the # of points if there is not a third point then the measurement is taken half way between the second point and the tip of the main beam and C3 and C4 are given the same value .....

    Early November Hunt

Must have been Pissing in the wind and that is why it got all over ... JK funny story though.... your friend sounds like a couple guys we ran into who fired off 15 shots in about 2 to 3 mins ..... we were not that close to them when they fired but on or hike out we crossed there path they had the young guys in some rough stuff trying to get it down of a steep wall saying all they could see was a leg hanging and it looked like it was almost blown off .... then the other guy says and half the rack may be gone to cause the boys seen horns left only on one side .... A kill is a Kill though Good Job!!!!

At Firstcoueswas80's request here is The measurements and another pic for you oh and my bad was not looking at the sheet it was 5/8's not 6/8's Spread 13 2/8 *****Right **** Left **** deductions**** Abnormal point (net deduction only) 6/8 Main** 17 1/8** 16 2/8*** 7/8 G1**** 2 6/8*** 3 7/8*** 1 1/8 G2**** 8 2/8*** 6 2/8*** 2 C1*** 4 ****** 4 ***** 0 C2*** 3 3/8****3 2/8**** 1/8 C3*** 3 1/8****3 ****** 1/8 C4*** 3 1/8****3 ****** 1/8 gross score******* 94 5/8 Total deductions**** 5 1/8 (includes abnormal) Net score******* 89 4/8 Now if you can show me a different way than I was shown (using a metal leader then measuring to the 8th) I would be interested in learning you can never learn too much Still one heck of a nice first kill for my buddy and bigger than my spike (though not as tasty) Chris

    Ray's 36b Big Fork Scored

Firstcoues sounds like you doubt the measurements which have been done twice .... I will see about getting you a couple more pics but feel free to come measure it if your in doubt.... realize when your looking at it that that kicker which almost would count as a point and looks in the pic like it would measure and inch is only 6/8's the mass on this guy is pretty hard to beat.... I will post up the full breakdown of the measurements with a couple other pics

    300 rum ammo for Coues?

Loco Have you worked up any other loads With the 165 gr Scirrocco's using IMR at all?
  15. Str8Shot

    300 rum ammo for Coues?

The power Level 3!!! it will give you the best and flattest long range trajectory while maintaining energy at the longer ranges .... and I don't believe there is much difference in price last time a checked >>>> But if you find yourself reloading them in the Future coueswt... look at the IMR powder especially on Bullets under 200 gr.

    300 rum ammo for Coues?

Reganranch I used some loads that I work up with my dad (the first hand loads shot from my 300rum) I used 165 gr. sierra partitioned boat tails with 81 gr. of IMR 4350.... the bullets shot very well at the range, and dropped my deer in the tracks at 254 yards ... With that being said the bullet hit 2 inches back from my mark (probably me) and deflected off a rib and went through the back rump.... Bullet did not pass through and was recovered when skinning and maintained almost all bullet weight and opened nicely ... (not to bad for first loads but plan on working up a few more ) Before then my bullet of choice has always been the Remington swift scirrocos 180. gr bullets ... the load is hard to beat and out of my gun they flew very well .... the breakdown for the trajectory has you a 2.24 inches high at a 100 yards for a 265 yard Zero and a point blank range of 314 yards... The Point blank range means that from 80 - 314 yards that a centered Kill Shot through your scope will be in the Kill Zone only adjustments of course would be for wind or large angles up or down ..... I have tried many Factory Loads from the top federals to the basic and these bullets fired best overall from MY Remington 700 BDL .... They do come in 150 gr as well but I prefer the 180 I do like the scirroco 180 gr. bullets but factory loads for my RUM were getting just to pricey and the next load I will be working will be with the scirroco bullets The thing is you have to see what your gun likes ... Mine fortunately enough has not found a load it did not like Hope it helps as well the rest of the info these guys here have .... They are a wealth of knowledge and many use 300RUM's Best of Luck come Dec. Chris

    Old Guys vs Young Guys

Great write up there Ron ! ! I herd about the older guys buck and the bail earlier but the overall story and pics shows really the kinda of time you had right up to having to call BP .... Wish the activity was a little less in those parts for the Mules and Bandits but hey BP works their butts off and there is so much to hunt in this unit .... Thanks for sharing and good luck on any other upcoming hunts ... January is not that far away Chris

    COW deer?

The Coues Whitetail (properly pronounced "COWS", but almost everyone pronounces it "coos") is a small subspecies of white-tailed deer found in Arizona, New Mexico and Mexico. Don't hate on the guy to much he had one of the pronunciations correct Just not the one MOST all of us use and typed in singular form ....the Spelling? He tried

36B Very Dry and Very few Deer

Couesaz Sol Good re reading it myself I could see where you would be confused I was trying to keep it short .... either way It was confirmed... When I got my buddy on it with his Binos the deer had just started to move ... during that time is when I took off my pack layed it down and set up prone a process that was not rushed and took place over a couple mins .... What he did not realize was that I seen the rack of the other deer and to him Buck and Spike is the same thing so when it moved as I was setting up and he was on him he confirmed Head gear again but not that what he was looking at was a spike ..... either way we Both took home meat that afternoon and the cuts from that spike are tasty .... no other deer were fired upon in the group of 5 but the 2 that were hauled out ......
