    30B

Gotta remind everyonoe that there are no deer in 30B . In truth there is some very valuable postings here by everyone who's hunted 30B. It's rough, thick and has some very nice deer if you're willing to scout, glass and have the deer luck on your side. Best of luck to you WOT and never write this unit off, it's a sleeper but worth all the hard work.

    Hungry Snake

Doh!!! Why can't I ever get such cool pics... some guys have all the luck ! Can't add anything to what BigMogui posted he pegged it including the favorite(s). BTW, as Casey asked did it get it down? Ernest

    Why fill up tanks.......

Dang Dude! You have got the coolest pixs all the time... That guy was really hurt'n, aye sure glad to see everyone fared none for the worst at the end. What made ya decide to post these...anything else really cool you can share before we die of summer boredom or stress waiting for the fall/winter hunts . Thanx for sharing some "tweet" pix again. Ernest

    1 road kill - 3 deer killed

Oh man that is a sad pic...what a shame, thanx for sharing Amanda. I can't say I've ever seen fawns that "new" before. Just only after they are looking abit gray in color. Truely pulls at the heart strings . As for the "anti-nut" ignore 'em...someone said on the forum before "Do not feed the trolls". Ernest
  5. Results are posted!!!! Dec WT again baby, good luck to all Ernest

Thanx for sharing. Those are some really nice pics, esp the gila and rattlesnake. That atrox looks really unhappy. By the looks of that tail, the gila appears very well fed. Thanx again for sharing. Ernest
  7. Oh man so sorry to hear of your loss. I just knew when I saw the post reappear something happened to Gunner. Glad you have good memories of him. He sure made my day back when he appeared on the post awhile back. Thanx for giving us the opportunity to "meet" him. Go get'em Gunner! Ernest
  8. Scottyboy, try this place, The Bunkhouse at Juniper Hill . It's in Nutrioso at the base of Esqudilla Mtn and right in the middle of everything(Alpine, Greer and Springerville). Greer is going to be CRAZY this time of the year so staying in Alpine/Nutrioso is your best bet. You'll have access to all the lakes from here and being away from Greer is the plus. Alpine Cabins behind the Bear Wallow Cafe is okay, kind of rustic if you know what I mean but worth the stay, I just cannt remember their number right know. You could always camp in the forest somewhere with shower access at Big Lake. Here's link to The Bunkhouse: http://www.cybertrails.com/~kstruthers/index.htm Hope you have a nice time away from the heat... Ernest

    Awesome Lion Pic!!!

Wow, that is one mean looking critter. You weren't kidding... hate to meet that thing. Thanx for posting Ernest
  10. That last "in situ" pic of the mearns is sweet! You can even hear the rustle of the grass and that sweet little noise they make . BTW Buckhorn, still waiting the hear how your uncle turned out. Hope he really didn't wait that long to seek treatment of a rattlesnake bite. The last person I heard of delaying treatment of a rattlesnake bite almost died. He waited three days until seeking medical attention. His arm and side all the way down into his scrotum swelled real nice with "third space" blood/fluid. Darn well could of bled to death. Not a pretty sight... remember folks "Time is Tissue" for "hot bites". Stay safe. Ernest

My boy's first trip in the outdoors!

Awe man, nothing like being outdoors and away from the heat. Can't wait to get up there later this month! Thanx for posting some awesome pics. Good to see you still looking out for the herps, nice shots. Ernest

    What was Jim Zumbo thinking???

Well, my two cents worth... Mr. Zumbo appears to be a stand up guy. I've never had the opportunity to personally meet him but from what I read and watch I cannot form a bad opinion about him. He expressed his opinion and that was that. I have no idea why it has turned into such a brewhaha. Heck I cannot even understand why anyone would want to hunt with an AR or AK. Own one, heck yes but hunt with one heck no. Feel threatened by his comments, no. Couldn't agree with you all more. I really hate the way things are right now. The "If you don't agree with me then you must be evil" attitude comes from all sides. What a shame it has boiled down to this. Wishing the best for Mr. Zumbo.
  16. Well I think Mr. Quimby and Lark pretty much nailed it. Not keeping your game clean and not allowing it to cool as soon as possible are probably the biggest contributors to "ruined meat". Cleaning it with clean water contributes almost nothing to bacterial growth but leaving it dirty will do nothing but encourage bacterial growth. Think about it...would you rather eat with clean hands or dirty hands? Same process occurs to theoritically "sterile" meat, that is, meat that is not gut shot, hairy or covered in dirt. Keeping your game meat clean and processing your own game meat is also a big plus, if you can do it. Just my 2 cents worth. BTW, has anyone tried those new "liquid meat keepers" in the spray bottle? You can buy them at any sports store and are suppose to keep bactierial growth down, thus saving your meat. Good to hear from you Mr. 270, it has been a while.

    December Luck?

Well, the season ended on a bang but it wasn't because I was shooting at a buck. I passed on 6 different spikes and/or forkies. Missed out on a nice three pointer with descent mass as he made it over the ridge before I could shoot and the three pointer mentioned in the "December Buck" posting spoked by the quads. Over all I really enjoyed the hunt; got a lot of quality time with my Pa and family friends. Plus got to finally see two whitetail bucks go at it, a first for me. Only once before had I seen a couple of Muleys go at. Then it was "pigs" galore, skunks and ringtails. The mountains were great we got snowed on twice and rained on twice but over all a really enjoyable hunt. We scored with Dave's buck and that was good enough for me, would have been nice to take a descent buck but the ones I passed on will hopefully mature and provide another opportunity. Rut was full on and the does were spoked by any movement, esp. when bucks were around. Found scrapes and lots of good sign. Only minus was I didn't get to see a mountian lion but did see tracks. Overall good times all around. Lucky for me Dave will be sharing some deer meat Ern

    Thank you!!!

Merry Christmas !!! That spike looks like it's suffering from chronic wasting disease. Better alert the AzFGD and Unit 21 is offically contaminated; didn't hunt there anymore. Ern

    Bummer

DOOH! I feel for ya, this same sort of incident happened to me on Tuesday. Glassed up another beaut, did the spot and stalk thing, got within shooting range...then up the arroy two quads ride through and up the hill, right between the buck and I! Spooked the boy real good. Couldn't shot as "safety first" kicked in, that is the quads were between the buck and I. He took off running up and over the hill, lost him couldn't glass him up anymore. The kicker, these guys were truely off roading and not using any roads or trails. Oh well such is luck.

    December Buck

Well here's a couple of pics of a buck taken Dec 20 at around 1110. It was a very chilly morning and we were off to "slow" start. We weren't even on the trail until 1000. It snowed all day yesterday and honestly we didn't worry to much about the slow start today because of the chill.Yet after a short but chilly hike and glassing up three other bucks we came across this guy. He was taken my buddy Dave Morales of Tucson who brought him down at about 150 yds with a well placed shot. It's been great hunting with Dave, his daughter Davina and my Dad. Some real quality time spent the pass few days and been really blessed in this hunt. Have seen at least six different bucks but only two shooters. All the buck we glassed were sparing and just being boys. Only four does but they were nervous... Anyway we still have my tag to go and cannot wait to get out again, keep ya posted. Ernest

    One for the Record Books

Rats !!! Foiled again, thanx for keeping me humble... Ernest
  24. So I was wondering, when I get my buck this Dec hunt who do I contact for the B&C records? "...faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see." Heb. 11:1- Offer one up for me, ladies and gents. Keep ya posted. Sure glad to see success has hit home for others already! Ernest

    Ever see this?

Wow !!! Elkhunter I kinda figured you were a bit crazy but now I see yer nuts! Did you at least save the scrotum? That size would make for one heck of a buckskin pouch. Don't know much about animal pathology but if I saw that size ratio in a human I'd say yer in the testicular cancer range, hard to believe testosterone would that kind of effect.
