This mount is of the first Coues deer I ever shot. I took him in 1992 October Hunt. I was new to AZ and had no idea what I had taken. I do now so I had it mounted. I'm extremely pleased with it.

Ernesto, Dave hit his deer in the lower neck/upper shoulder. What you are seeing the the blood rolling down.

Picked Up My Mount Today
scoutm replied to scoutm's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
When a finally decided to mount him I wanted a cape from a deer I had taken but it never worked out the capes were either too small or poor quality so I finally got tired of waiting and told the taxi to find a nice cape and mount it up. -

Did anyone else recieve this? The way I see it this bill would ensure that future commission members were Hunters and Anglers. Am I missing something? Seems like a good thing to me. Arizona Game and Fish Commission votes to oppose House Bill 2235 Jan. 26, 2009 Introduced legislation would alter commission qualifications, appointment process The Arizona Game and Fish Commission on Friday unanimously voted to oppose Arizona House Bill 2235, proposed legislation that would amend an existing law concerning the qualifications and appointment process for Game and Fish commission membership. If the Arizona Legislature were to pass HB 2235 as written, all future commission members would be required to have a continuous recorded registration with the same political party or as an independent for at least 5 years immediately preceding the appointment, must have also held a valid hunting or combination hunting and fishing license for at least 5 years immediately preceding the appointment, and must have been an Arizona resident for at least 10 years. The legislation would also require that all applications for appointment to the Commission be public records and that those records be available for public inspection not later than the second week in December. The bill amends Arizona Revised Statutes, Title 17, Section 201. “Although our vote was unanimous, our decision took some soul searching,” said Game and Fish Commissioner Robert Woodhouse. “Each commissioner understands the critical role sportsmen play in funding wildlife conservation. We also believe that Arizona’s wildlife belongs to all its citizens, each of whom has a responsibility to help fund conservation. However, as written, this piece of proposed legislation would eliminate more than 90 percent of Arizona citizens from eligibility to serve as a commissioner. This standard would be more restrictive than currently exists for any other public office in Arizona – including that of governor.” The commission’s concern with the bill includes: As written, the bill would prevent an individual from being an eligible applicant who had been a long time-purchaser of a hunting license but, for any reason, missed purchasing a license during the five years prior to becoming a candidate. This would prevent anyone serving as a commissioner who was unable to purchase a license due to economic or health reasons, family circumstances, or being out of state for a period of time such as a member of the U.S. military who might be deployed overseas. The draft legislation would prevent the governor from making an appointment except from candidates that submitted applications prior to the second week in December. If the governor didn’t call for applications until after the second week in December, or if a current commissioner was unable to continue serving their term and resigned, the governor would be unable to appoint a new commissioner until the following December. No specific skills, knowledge or qualifications are required of an individual who has purchased a hunting or combination hunting and fishing license that aren’t already required by the existing statute. The current law states that commission members be “well informed on the subjects of wildlife and requirements for its conservation”. Click here to read the introduced version of House Bill 2235.

Mexico 08/09! (Long & Pic Heavy)
scoutm replied to cramerhunts's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Mexico
Thanks for the credit Phil but it's really not necessary as that buck gave me the slip twice so I had more than my fair chance to hang my tag on him. In the end it all worked out great as I got to hang my tag on a really unique buck. (Story and Photos to come later) We all had a really great time and I look forward to hunting with you again. -
AZGFD Votes to oppose HB 2235
scoutm replied to scoutm's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
There is no question that the bill is a good thing. I just wonder why the "Commission" unanimously voted against it? I would suspect they voted against it because fewer than half of them would have qualified under these standards. I for one am contacting them to let them know I fully support it as is. -

The Arizona legislature is fairly conserviative and now with Nappy gone there's a chance that something like this could actually pass and be signed by the new Gov. To me it's one way to try to address some of the issues that often get members of the site heated. Did you read anything in the proposed law that would be a bad thing to hunters? I didn't. -
I have a factory Synthetic stock off a model 70 Feather weight just collecting dust I'd let you have cheap. It has a few marks on it but not too bad and the recoil pad has been upgraded so when it was on my 270 it was a comfort to shoot. If you're at all interested shot me a PM.

Good Luck Scotty. I'll be heading down to MX this weekend as well for my third and final trip to our do-it-yourself ranch. SunDevil is down on the ranch right now and Cramerhunts tagged out last week - need to encourage him to post pics and Story. Again, best of luck! -
Larry, there were several bucks there but they were like a 1/2 mile west from were you saw Alberto, including the 112 Randy missed at 80 yards. How you did on your ranch? Ernesto C We had a good trip. A good buck gave me the slip twice. Chris is headed back down this weekend and I will be going the following weekend. We saw lots of bucks. Seemed like all the bigger bucks were broken. It was extremely hot. I can't believe we are huning in t-shirts in January.

Ernesto - Too bad about shooting the wrong buck. You need to talk to Chris about that. He did the exact same thing two years ago. I tell you though that some really great stuff...very exciting. Did you find all those bucks there on the north side where we found Alberto last year? Again, great story! Sorry it didn't have the ending we were all hoping for.

You are correct!!

This was e-mailed to me today by a friend. I have no idea who wrote this but I found it interesting. Hope you do too. Unknown Author: In a few short days, an African American man will move from his private residence into a much larger and infinitely more expensive one owned not by him but by the taxpayers. A vast lawn, a perimeter fence and many well trained security specialists will insulate him from the rest of us but the mere fact that this man will be residing in this house should make us all stop and count or blessings - because it proves that we live in a nation where anything is possible. Many believed this day would never come. Most of us hoped and prayed that it would, but few of us actually believed we would live to see it. Racism is an ugly thing in all of it's forms and there is little doubt that if this man had moved into this house fifteen years ago, there would have been a great outcry - possibly even rioting in the streets. Today, we can all be both grateful and proud that no such mayhem will take place when this man takes up residency in this house. This man, moving into this house at this time in our nation's history is much more than a simple change of addresses for him - it is proof of a change in our attitude as a nation. It is an amends of sorts - the righting of a great wrong. It is a symbol of our growth, and of our willingness to "judge a man, not by the color of his skin but by the content of his character". There can be little doubt now that the vast majority of us truly believe that this man has earned both his place in history and his new address. His time in this house will not be easy - it will be fraught with danger and he will face many challenges. I am sure there will be many times when he asks himself how in the world he ended up here and like all who have gone before him, the experience will age him greatly. But I for one will not waste an ounce of worry for his sake - because in every way a man can, he asked for this. His whole life for the past fifteen years appears to have been inexorably leading this man toward this house. It is highly probable that in the past, despite all of his actions, racism would have kept this man out of this house. Today, I thank the Lord above that I am an American and that I live in a nation where wrongs are righted, where justice matters and where truly anything is possible. Who is this man you ask?. You think you know, don't you? Tell me who you think it is...I was way off.

I would recommend the same scope with some target turrets but it's outside the stated price range. Great scope!!

scoutm replied to 4Falls's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
It’s nothing more than a veiled attempt to paint a negative image of the hunter/conservationist. It attempts to show that the very act of hunting weakens a species through “evolution in reverse” therefore hunters can’t claim they’re conservationist. -
Phil - Great looking buck!! Congrats on a hard earned trophy! Jim - Great Video. I can't wait for Mexico Part II. I thought I was excited for the first trip...this time the anticipation is off the charts!! What a way to end the year with a 100incher and then two weeks later starting the year off with another (I Hope)!

Ok I see you have over a half dozen posts in other threads....more time on uploading pictures of your buck and writing your story and less time in other threads...Please!

Very nice! Looks like perfect shot placement. Did you update your body count?

It sure seems like there have been alot of lions taken or seen this year...dont know if it is more publsized by these forums or there are just more lions...either way I like it! We were just talking about this at lunch today. It really seems like more lions have been killed this year than in previous years. Anyone have an idea of the body count? I took one March.
-
He looked a lot like the lion kill. Lots of mass but not much in tine length. Chris measured the lion kill at 97"+ I would guess this guy is around 90". Phil put the big one he found at around 115" Bad thing is we think there are at least 3 lions working the ranch. Caught what looked like one big Tom and one female hitting the same tank.

Was in Mexico this past weekend with a number of fellow members of the site. The trip down went great! We had no problems checking our guns in at both the Mexican Customs or with the Military and arrived to meet the rancher at the exact time specified. With much excitement we set out for our first morning hunt only to find a fresh lion kill in the middle of the road. The rancher had driven the road the day before so knew it had to be from the night before - there are more details that I will let some of the other guys fill in. Due to some extremely high winds we didn't see too many bucks the first few days but were able to find enough to keep our interest and excitement up. Here are a few pictures. One great buck was seen but I don't have pictures of him so one of the others will need to post them up. I was fortunate enough to capture a pretty intense buck fight on camera. Twice the bigger buck flipped the small buck but I wasn't fortunate enough to capture that on tap. Hope you enjoy... Guy's please add some more detail... http://s99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/sco...xico1215040.flv http://s99.photobucket.com/albums/l302/sco...xico1215048.flv
