7mm WSM - Favorite Loads?
AZ Wildcat replied to AZ Wildcat's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Thanks everyone for the input. I'm going to play around with a few different loads over the next few weeks, if I find something I'm really happy with I'll post it up for posterity's sake. -
For those of you who have been loading for 7MM WSM, what are your favorite loads? I'm particularly interested in loads for 168 Bergers, 162 ELD-Xs and 160 GR AccuBonds, but if you have something else you're happy with I'd love to hear about that too.

7mm WSM - Favorite Loads?

When the WSMs and the SAUMs came out (what, 15 years or so ago?) I somehow got it in my head that the WSMs would be more likely to gain a large following than the SAUMs. I've long since forgotten why I thought this, but it seems I bet on the wrong horse. That said, I LOVE my 7mm WSM...it's my favorite rifle I've ever owned (although a newly-purchased 270 WSM may overtake it). -
7mm WSM - Favorite Loads?

Yeah that's the hard part. I have a decent supply of fired brass I've collected over the years. Last summer I back ordered 100 cases from an online retailer (I can't remember who), wasn't optimistic I'd ever get any and forgot all about it. A couple months ago they showed up in the mail! Right time / right place I guess... -

Interesting. I played around with some 175 gr ELD-Xs last summer and had decent results, but I only tested them out to 100 yds before I got involved in some other stuff and set that process aside for awhile. I'll try some 180 Bergers too, I'd love it if I could get a heavier bullet to shoot well out of this rifle. -

Thanks. The 168s shoot well in mine but I don't think my twist (9.5) is fast enough for the 180s. What is your twist? -
Yeah me too. What a stud.

We...I mean my son...got the first hunt.

I'm really looking forward to this one. Seems like a long way to drive for a one hour hunt though!

I'm selling a Weatherby Vanguard S2 Stainless / Synthetic in 270 Winchester that I bought about two years ago. Less than 50 rounds through the barrel, mostly during break-in (shoot one round, clean, shoot one round, clean, etc.) It was in the field on a deer hunt for exactly one day. This rifle is in excellent shape and shows just light signs of wear (see photos). I had no trouble shooting MOA at 100 yards with Hornady 130 grain SST ammo. Includes Warne Maxima Steel Bases (Weaver-style), owner's manual and original box. From the Weatherby website: FEATURES INCLUDE: Adjustable Match Quality, Two-stage Trigger Fluted Bolt Body One-piece Machined Bolt Body Fully Enclosed Bolt Sleeve Pachmayr Decelerator Recoil Pad 3-Position Safety Cold Hammer Forged Barrel Integral Recoil Lug Hinged Floorplate STOCK: Monte Carlo Griptonite® stock Pistol grip and forend inserts Right side palm swell (aids shooter comfort and control) BARREL AND METALWORK: 400 Series stainless steel Bead blasted matte finish 24", #2 contour barrel $550. Please PM or call/text Jim at (602) 999-5073. I'm located in Chandler and can travel within reason to meet.

I'm with Jim. In fact I'd love to talk to someone who knows something about cameras of mine that have been stolen around the Heber area. I can tolerate a lot but not thieves.

Cool gun and a good deal...wish I was looking for one!
-
I've used Wright a couple of times...fairly minor stuff but they were first class all the way. Friendly, professional and in my experience has done excellent work. I don't often need a gunsmith but they are my go-to choice when I do need one.
-
Does anyone know when/where they post the results?
-
Glad to hear you had a good experience there...I love Healy!

Reviving an older thread here. Who's going on this hunt this fall? My son drew the first youth hunt...I've hunted the unit before and know my way around a little but I'd love to hear more from those who hunted this last year!

Nothing for me but my son got the 12AW youth hunt in October. I think I'm more excited about taking him up there than if I'd gotten drawn myself!
