  1. I was out last weekend in unit 24b. We saw some activity of some ruttin going on but not as much as i thought i would. We saw a couple good looking whitetails chasing some does around. Saw a couple of fourkies fightin with each other. But the bigger bucks that we saw were around 90 to 100 inches and they didn't show much interest. Didn't get a chance to get close enough to them but i sure wish i had seen some of these bucks during my rifle hunt. Seen a huge buck for a split second before he topped the hill heading towards some water. Never saw him again after that. But i do think we saw more bucks than does. The bucks that were with the does were some nice two points and some smaller 3 points. Don't know if i'll make it out this weekend but i'll try and get out there one more time before the archery season ends. Good Luck!

  2. We had the late October hunt. We put in our scouting and it payed off. We found a really good three point on our scouting trips. My brother took him opening morning. He shot that deer within like 5 minutes into shooting light. I was just starting to glass the hillsides, when i hear a shot coming from my brothers direction. Next thing i know, he's on the walkie talkie saying "he's down". He packed up the deer and headed back to camp. I should mention that deer ended up being back towards the road and he shot him about 10 yards from the road, didn't even have to do much work, lucky!. In the same morning one of our budies took out his first deer. I never saw anything the rest of the day that i wanted to take. Then that night our 4th tager showed up to see two deer in the camp already. The next morning i was seeing a lot of young bucks, like spikes and fourkys. I wanted something that at least had some what of a rack. I passed them up, but then later in the afternoon, one of my budies took his first deer as well, its a little spike. So my brother and i decided we should make a change on where we were hunting because there was a lot of shots fired in our hunting hole and i wasn't seeing anything that had a rack. So we went higher up in the mountains. We got to a vanage point and just starting glassing and then next thing we know we have movement just below us about 200 yards away. There was three bucks. Two of the bucks i was willing to take. So i set my crosshairs on the biggest of the three and the hunt was over. I'd say we had a good late October hunt. Can't wait for next year now. We all got our first coues bucks this year, two of them their first deer at all. I'd say we are pretty addicted to hunting whitetail now. I might even try and hunt them in january and pass up on kiabab in september.
