    HUNTER ORANGE

No it is not unless you are from out of state. We are going to make out of state hunters wear them that are orange and say out of state hunter on the front and back.HA HA No it is not a must to wear it in Arizona. That is another reason why this state is one of the best to hunt in.
  2. DBack You are right about a judge having the last word. I would also agree that being busted by a forest service ranger is not something to wory about if your more than a few feet off the road. I have never in my life come across one while hunting game. I have run into them while doing my other hunting. While prospecting a month ago I ran into one in the field. He told me I could not mine on forest land. I told him I was not mining at all just metal detecting for nuggets. He started filling out the citation, And I said what are you doing. He then told me I was being cited for mining on the forest land. There was rules and regulatiuons writen up for prospecting. It is OK to do. In the last year at least 10 guy's have taken it to court when they were busted. Every one of them have one the court case ,And charges were droped. The new regs they are working on seem to leave that kind of stuff up to the ranger him self to decide if you are mining or not. You may be right and not breaking the law. He will still give you a citation and you then have to go to court to proove what you were doing. Now I know this is a hunting forum. So I do not want to go into my other hobby on here to much. I am just trying to show that they will have a permit to do anything we love to do before to long. The group that is pushing the isue is the same group trying to keep us from atv riding and hunting and enjoying the great out doors for anything other that hiking and site seeing and hugging a few trees while we are out there. Now that is all fine and good but I may just want to shoot a deer and find some more gold out there too.
  3. It is against the law. Just like putting a tree stand up on forest land is against the law if you leave it there all year long. To do anything on forest land to the trees or land that they would consider perminant is against the law. I would just go get it . do not worry about getting busted removeing it. If they get mad just say you called in and they told you to get it or pay for a permit. Even if they find it how do they know who to send the fine to. I do not have my name on my cameras for that reason. Your first wrong was calling the forest service. They have a permint for anything you can think of.They are revising alot of there laws right now that will leave alot up to the officer in the field . It will be a bad thing when they pass the new forest use regs. It will put an end to a bunch of things we love to do in the forest.Because If the ranger does not agree with the way you understand the law he can site you on the spot. It all will depend on the way each ranger reads and understands that law to mean. I know this because they are trying to stop us from gold prospecting with metal detectors on forest land. They understand that to be mining and it is not even close to mining. Acording to the rules and regs they curently have and have had for a hundred years on prospecting. A prospector could claim the mineral rights to an area and prospect on it. now they are trying to stop it. If you ask me it is just another way for the government to regulate us in a hobby. I better stop now I could go on forever witht his one. This is how I understand the laws to be in place if someone knows better than I hope they share it with us.

I think I have you beat for sure Allan. I was out to winter pasture for to long I think I gaind a few hundred pounds this year. I better start running or you may see me on the news being found dead from hunting while over weight.
  5. DBack I know what you are saying for sure. I did not want to sound like I was talking to you at all. You are just the one that brought up the point. I just wanted to let everyone out there know that there opinion will still count as a strong number of suport for us. After reading what I said above I thought about removing it because it sounded like there was a finger being pointed. That was not my intention at all. My intintion is to have the best outcome for Arizona. Thank you to all for your posts and suport to each of us on this site.
  6. I for one like to read each post. If someone has a hard time with words and the way they spell they still have something to say. They also have the right to an opinion and the right to speak there mind. If someone wants to get mad at people like buster and fire off. They may not think about things they are saying. On the other hand when talking to the game and fish when asked for help. They may slow down and use spell check or ask there wife how to use a coma or period. I read each post to learn from all the great coues deer hunters that we have ,And try to share when I can. I do not come for a school class on how to write and spell. I do not want to sound like I am high on a soap box , But I do think that we do not need to poke fun at those of us that may have spent more time thinking about hunting coues deer and the next football game in school than the more important things in life. I hope that those that are good at words will send there opinion to the AZGFD. I also hope that those like me will also send there opinion into the AZGFD. After all they did say they wanted sugestions from all of us That are hunters in Arizona.

    GLASSING

I do it both ways. The advantage to glassing down is you can come down on them and they will not notice you as easy. they set them selfs to watch the hill coming up to them in most situations. But if you are a good shot then it would work for you going from eather way. Plus I would rather start up high in the morning when are fresh. If you are lucky you will just have to haul your deer down hill and not up hill.

    Spotting Scopes

I agree with bullwidgeon. Get a set of binos. then get a tripod from amanda on this site. You will do best with the kind of set up that most of us use. The only thing I use my spotter for is to get a beter look at something that I want to score first, And even then last year I never got it out of the truck. I just used my binos to do the job. My back felt much better last year for it to.
  9. Why mess around with what we as Arizonans have to pay to hunt. If you ask me it is just fine the way it is for us. Now the non res hunters Can have it put to them I do not care. *I would agree with raising there cost. *Make them attend an Elk seminar Along with a hunting deer in Arizona seminar. that will cost them a couple days stay in the heat. *Make them pay Up front, not only if they get drawn. *There should be a set number of years for them after they draw a tag before they draw again. *They should have to wear a blaze orange vest that says non res hunter on it. I do not blame them for wanting to hunt in this great state. And for you good guys that are part of this site and live in another state please forgive us for the way we fill. We have been pushed and cowboys and skatters do not react very well to people that push us.

    Is it just me?

I fill this has been a great topic also. It gave us all a chance to think about it. Like I said above is I fill it is fine to share tips and some tactics to hunting the little deer. I do thank rembrant for bringing it up. I do fill that bit of hair stand up when some one gives to much info on a spot very close to mine. But I know it is felt the other way to when I give some info to someone close to another hunters favorite spot. But then again that is hunting . Last year two guys beat me to my spot and both killed a deer that morning. So was it my spot or there spot . You see where this is going. My only spot is in the seat of my truck. When I get out of my truck that is the spot of all hunters with the right tag. FRUSTRATING ISN'T IT AAAAAHHHHH. That is why I have always liked opening morning the best. I like to get up an hour early and be on the mountain to watch the trucks race for the mountain. Try it some time it is funny and you can even call the race as it hapens. Just like nascar. Have a good one.

That is great news It gose to show we can come together as a BAND OF BROTHERS and fight for what we stand for. It is a world wide Brotherhood and can be strong when it needs to be. It goes to show that people can't walk on our passion and traditions with out a fight. It is coming that time of year to make sure the people that will fight for us are put in the right office in the government. It will make our fight a bit smoother for us.

    Is it just me?

I think we should all be willing to share tactics and some helpfull tips. I do get a bit nervoues when someone is giving to much info on a spot that will even get them headed in my direction. I think that we are all great guy's and girls here with some good info. If you read a post you can usualy tell if some one wants some tips and willing to do the rest of the ground work or if they want a hand out. If a guy has a tag for a unit he will be hunting in that unit . He will be there with or without our tips. There is not a better group of guy's than sportsmen and coues deer hunters range right up there on top. We are very dedicated and passionate about our sport, And willing to talk about it with anyone that will listen to our stories. I bet I am the worst. So I hope you all keep up the good stories and pictures and the hints that I mooch off of every day.

    25-06

You will not go wrong with the Rem 700 25-06. That is what I use and the year before last it made short work of my 400 yard shot on my buck. It shoots fast and straight.

I am with desert bull on this one just got a bad lands and it rules. It is much nicer than my old crooked horn one anyways. It fits better and looks better And it is not bulky. b esides that they can screw them selfs. What kind of hunter has to be guided to everything they hunt any way. The guy comes up with a pack that people like and then all kinds of outfitters take him hunting and he gives them packs and gifts. With out doing it on purpose the guide now addvertises for the pack When all the guide cares about is it was free . They have not come up with anything new in a few years anyways. Oh well they can fill the way they want to about it just like we can. The way primos looks at it is they will sell alot more calls to Arizona hunters than a few free calls they give to USO.

Josh I hear you on the hair. I have been a cowboy all my life. And in the late 80s and early 90s the mullet was COOL. No I never had a true mullet eather but I did sport some long hair back then. shaved to the skin for the last 6 years.Cant stand any hair while out plumbing houses. Unit 21- AntlerBoy!!

Josh I was not going to say anything but I can't help it. The photo I like the best is the one with your 10-90 hair do. With 10% of the hair up front and 90% of the hair in the back. It took me back to my early 90s mullet days hahaha.

    Need advice on handguns

Lark I am like you I have 4 22 hand guns I have them in revolver and auto. The auto is the ruger mark II looks like the german luger. You just look at your target bring that thing to aim and pull the triger. It is like pointing your finger and shooting . My revolvers will change out and shoot the mags also. I have plenty of bear pistols also, But like you say they are much harder on you than the 22. Practice with a hand gun is an overall must And if you hate to shoot the gun you will not be good with it. The price of a 22 is much better too.
