Foundry Man posted a topic in Coues Deer Hunting in New Mexico
Well, lucked out and drew Burro's for the november rifle hunt. This could be fun! Jamero.let me know about 27- I'll give you a few spots (388-2245).>> If any of you see this same post in the "Mexico" section of the board, I screwed up and double posted. Anyway, I am stoked to have such a sweet hunt 15 minutes from my front door! I was out there looking for sheds the other day, and found two (both 3 pointers) LET THE SCOUTING BEGIN!!!>>Jason -
Well, here it is. The pictures are kind of bad, and they don't do a very good job of showing the sculpture. But, you'll get an idea of what I do. ENJOY! Foundry Man replied to Foundry Man's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
Scottyboy, Hey man, if you need any help or advise, let me know. Have you every done a bronze before? If you can get your piece done, and get a mold made so you can produce a wax replica, I'll cast it in bronze for you next semester at the foundry here. let me know.>>Jamaro, dude, you don't even know how much I hate wearing a white shirt and tie every day ! If I ever get out of the funeral buisness, I am going to grow a Grizzly Adams beard and wear camo everyday!! -

It took about 30 lbs of bronze to pour this guy! -
I thought that you all might like to see this. Last night I did a bronze pour at the foundry. This is me (on the left) I was pouring my latest bronze sculpture. Anyway, this is somthing you don't see every day. I will be finished with the peice in a few weeks. It is a bust of a (GULP) , m m ma m mule d dd d deer. Well, I guess you can see where "foundry man" came from...... The only thing that compares to hot bronze, is a hot gut pile! >>Jason

what does your trophy room contain?
Foundry Man replied to firstcoueswas80's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
You all need a bronze sculpture or two for your trophy rooms....... I know where you could get one! >>Jason -
I saw a big mule deer yesterday, his head gear was still glued on. He was a 25-28 inch 3X4. I guess the deer will start dropping soon?

Jason, I take my kids on drives up through your neighborhood all the time. They love to see the deer. We also go out to Ft. Bayard. I live out in Tryone. The buck I mentioned was out by Gila.

What's up dude! How are you guys doing? So, you never knew I was into bronzes or coues deer? I've been doing bronze for a while now. I am in school to finish my art degree. I had to do the Mortuary thing so I could afford happy meals for my kids. Now, I am focusing on my dreams. I want to put in foundry someday. As far as coues deer go, I do my best to cull the heard of sub-standard bucks! Well, have you been crappie fishing with Lavell yet this year? I want to get out soon, my jigs are getting dusty! Good to hear from you, keep in touch!>>Jason -
Houston, That is an awsome buck. How are things going? Hope you and your family are doing OK. Well, MAYBE if I can lay off the spikes, I can kill a nice buck like that someday. Later man!>>Jason

HOTTER THAN HELL!!!

Younghunter, thanks man. Well, my dream in life would be to sculpt for my living. I am just now getting to point where I feel comfortable showing my work to people (other than my mom ). Alot of hunters out there enjoy wildlife art. Maybe it would be cool for me to do a "coues" peice, and post pictures as I progress along the process. Members of this board could give me constructive critisim, and maybe I could end up with a sweet sculpture. I would be very open to doing a peice for the buck contest too. The foundry is in Silver City, New Mexico at Western NM University. I am a fine art major. -

I'll show you all this peice when it's finished. I'll try and round up some picts of other stuff I've done. I've given alot of it away, and sold a few. But, it's fun. Here is another cool picture. -
I've learned that you better be in shape. It does no good to hike to the top and be so miserable and sore, that you break down mentaly and shoot a spike. You have to have all yer wits about you if you are going to make split second decisions that determine wether you come home with 111'' of bone or 11'' of bone. It's taken me a few years to figure this out. But, at least my roasts have all been VERY tender! >>Jason

Schmitty, I just pruchased the Zeiss 65 angled scope a few weeks ago. I got a great deal from Camera Land (a coues whitetail.com sponser). It was a SHOT show special. I got the scope body for $999., and then got the eye peice. There was no shipping either. I figure I saved a couple hundred bucks. Full Warrenty as well. You might check into that. I just bought the Zeiss camera adapter. It works awsome. I got the Velbon Traker 2 tripod from Sportsmans Wharehouse (130.00). The whole set up cost me around $1950.00. There have been gale force winds around Silver City the past few days, but I have been out, and gotten some pretty good pictures with this outfit. The only draw back is, the camera adapter is HEAVY! I probably won't haul it into the whitetail hills. It weighs as much as my scope. But, I am going to have a good time with it! Zeiss optics are some of the best. I've been sleeping with mine.

Thanks! Glad to be here. Scott, My father-in-law (who lives in Safford) works in Morenci, at the mine. Anyway, I guess it will be fun finding some country over here near Silver. Doesn't look like great glassing country though. We'll see. -

I have been scoping out this site almost every day for a while now, and I decided to finally chime in. My name is Jason Lewis, and I live in Silver City, New Mexico. I am a funeral Director. I started an art degree before I went to mortuary school. Well, I am back in college now to finish my art dergree, which leads me to my handle, "Foundry Man", I am a sculptor, and do wild life and western bronzes. WNMU has a good art program with a working bronze foundry. Thats why I'm in Silver. I was raised in Arizona, and I freaking love coues deer. I hope I can find some good spots over here in NM. My wife is from Safford, AZ, so we are there alot (too much ) But, at least I get to prowl around all the good tail' country over there. Anyway, that's me. JASON
