    Drone usage for exploring/scouting??

Yes. Arizona drone regulations require that you register your drone with the FAA and firmly affix the drone registration number to your aircraft prior to flight. Federal law requires that any small unmanned aircraft (drones) weighing more than .55 pounds and less than 55, be registered and marked with a registration number, either by registering online or by using the legacy paper based registration process. https://www.federaldroneregistration.com/arizona-drone-registration#:~:text=Yes.,(drones) weighing more than. On the topic, per AZGFD a drone shall not be used to locate wildlife beginning 48 hours before the opening of a big game hunting season...regardless if you take an animal or not. Arizona Game and Fish Commission’s consideration of Fair Chase issues A technology or practice that allows a hunter or angler to locate or take wildlife without acquiring necessary hunting and angling skills or competency. A technology or practice that allows a hunter or angler to pursue or take wildlife without being physically present and pursuing wildlife in the field. A technology or practice that makes harvesting wildlife almost certain, and/or the technology or practice prevents wildlife from eluding detection and/or take. Unmanned aerial vehicles — drones — are aircraft and subject to the same rules as other aircraft, meaning they cannot be used to assist in taking wildlife or locating wildlife during an open season; https://www.azgfd.com/hunting/fairchase/

    Tick Tock

I'm sure they've fielded 100,000 phone calls about portal accounts, (that have nothing to do with the actual draw). I'm heard AZGFD may delay the draw until March 6th so they can update portal accounts, (that have nothing to do with the actual draw).

  8. I was told by a GW a few years back that I could have my wife build up bonus points and when my son turns ten she could transfer any game tag she's drawn for to him. So we did that and now that he has turned ten and has passed the Hunter Ed course I would like to enter her in the Elk draw on top of entering him for the youth hunt to increase his chances of being drawn. On the AZGFD website it says: Transfer from a parent, grandparent or guardian to their minor child or grandchild. A parent, grandparent or legal guardian holding a big game tag may allow the use of that tag by their minor child or minor grandchild pursuant to the following requirements: The minor child is 10 to 17 years old on the date of transfer; The minor child has a valid hunting or combination license on the date of transfer; A minor child less than 14 years old has satisfactorily completed a Department-approved hunter education course by the beginning date of the hunt; The parent or guardian must accompany the child in the field or, if a grandparent allows a minor grandchild to use the grandparent’s permit or tag, the grandparent, parent or the child’s guardian must accompany the child in the field. In either case, the adult must be within 50 yards of the child when the animal is taken. https://www.azgfd.com/hunting/tagtransfer/ I called AZ Game and Fish today to clarify if she had to be with him in the field and the woman said that my wife isn't required to be there and that I could take him instead. So my question is, have I misunderstood the wording on their website or is was the woman mistaken? She wouldn't be able to be in the field with him during his hunt because we have a three year old to care for as well. Does anyone have experience with tags being transferred to their children? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance, TR0UBLE SH00TER

Tag transfer question for anyone with experience.

Good stuff, man. We are really close and there is already unspoken rules about "What Mom doesn't know won't hurt her". I have a three year old son as well so my years in the field with them has just really begun. We camp a few months out of the year so my ten year old is very acclimated with being out in nature and he's very interested in survival techniques. But you can never be too safe, that's for sure. Thanks for the response.

Yes, that seems to be the case. Apparently Grandma Maude doesn't have to be in the field at all (thankfully, given her health restrictions...), another parent is fine.

I love to hear that kind of stuff man, it's really inspirational! My son has hunted squirrel, rabbit, quail and duck for two years. But now that he has a javelina hunt starting Friday I've never seen him more excited about hunting than he is to finally start big game hunting. We've been watching this hog for a while now:

Fantastic advice on the point guard! We all took the online course last month. When the field days courses open back up we will all attend one for the points. I'm not familiar with the youth camps but I will look in to it for sure. Thank you

Tag transfer question for anyone with experience.

I was confused by the wording. I interpreted it to say that the same parent that donated the tag had to be on the hunt and within 50 yards. Meaning, my wife would need to be in the field with him. I would not have put her in the draw under those circumstances.

Tag transfer question for anyone with experience.

She has three bonus points for Elk (if we would have known about the policy sooner she'd have 10), he has one bonus point. I was going to put him in for 6A youth and a general cow tag and her for a cow tags. Any advice would be appreciated. We are meat hunters only. If they both happen to draw a tag we will donate hers to a disabled child.

I think the point you made was a bit skewed because that's exactly what we are doing which apparently is allowed. No offense and thank you for the response.

Thank you for the clarification. The wording on the website is a bit ambiguous. I wanted to here from someone has done this before. I would be with him.

    19B Deer tag

I've seen big bucks crossing the road on 89 in Paulden right at dusk multiple times leaving my buddy's house. Coming back from Williams last October there was an absolutely ginormous buck laying against the guardrail on the 19B side of HWY 89 about 4 miles past Paulden. I would have stopped but I had the camper with me. Lots of juniper in the area but there are monster bucks there too. You shouldn't have to venture to far off the hwy to find one.

    Results up on AZGF Portal.

I got a unit 20A - any antlered deer rifle tag, 10/23 - 11/1. It was my first choice with 1 point. And it's in my back yard. I also got a unit 8 & 10 turkey tag, 10/2 - 10/8. I saw some turkeys last year during my elk scout/hunt in unit #8 so that's where I'll be hunting. Good luck gentlemen!

Only 1 hour until cards start getting hit

Howdy to all! I've been lurking here since last season when I was looking for advice for my very first Elk hunt in Arizona and figured it was time to join. I am a 17 year AZ resident and last year was only the second year for applying for hunting tags. I got drawn for the muzzle loader antler-less Elk unit 8 hunt. It was a successful hunt and she was a beast. There is still a little left of her in the freezer. I was also drawn for turkey last year but I was only able to hunt for two days and was unsuccessful. Anyway, my bank card got hit Friday and I've been drawn for Turkey, unit 6A or 8/10 and a rifle Deer tag in either unit 20A or 19A. I am very familiar with both of those Deer areas and I will have to research a little for the turkey areas, except unit 8. I'm excited for the opportunity to have my son join me this big game hunting season. He's already a small game hunter. I've been putting my wife in for the last few years for bonus points for Elk and Deer so when she finally gets drawn she can grandfather the tag to my now 9 year old son. Good times ahead and glad to be here. TR0UBLE SH00TER 350+ hanging weight, gutted and skinned Hornady 50 cal. SST ML 300 gr bullet
