Hunting and long range shooter, which one?
Riesop replied to Demerson71's topic in Long Range Shooting
I have a CVA cascade in 6.5. Less than half inch groups at 100yards and they have a bergara barrel. -

Obviously not skilled enough to get it with the first or second shot. All I'm saying is not to treat it as some game. Treat that animal with respect, get as close as possible and put a good shot on so that you can confidently kill that animal. Game and fish issues you a tag to represent hunters in a good way, not give us all a bad name for wounding animals, which you very well could have done. -

I'm sorry but trying to see if you can hit an animal at 750 yards is not ethical. If you cant sneak within 3 or 4 hundred yards then why are you hunting? I know I'll get a lot of pushback on this but show a little respect to the animal and work to get a clean ethical shot. Obviously you weren't skilled enough to do that the first time. This is what gives hunters a bad name. -
If I'm waiting 20 plus years to get drawn for a rut hunt there is no way I am sitting water that is that easily accessible where somebody can just come in and check a camera. Again, it's public land and you have to expect that you'll run into people unless you put your time in and get more than a mile away from the road. I honestly wish they'd ban sitting tanks anyways. To many people want to just sit and with the scarcity of water it just causes problems between other hunters. You waited 20 years to draw, go out and enjoy it and get away from people.

Going out to purposely ruin another person's hunt is just wrong. I'm trying to see both sides. It would be nice to think that all wildlife is only for us hunters to enjoy but there are a lot of people that just want to get away and see it themselves without seeing other people. If I ever get drawn for one of these good hunts I know with public land I have to probably hunt a spot that is not easily accessible and will have to pack it out. If I hunt within a mile of a road I can expect people to unfortunately ruin it. But it is public land and the public has the right to enjoy it too, thats just the reality of it.

I know this doesnt apply to this situation but I had a question. I found a dead bull the other day out hiking and know it needs to be reported so I called game and fish to report it. They said if it died naturally that I could keep it but if they determine it was an arrow or a bullet, they keep it. Unfortunately they found an arrow and said they would keep the head. What do they do with it is my question? It was clearly old, no meat, and all the way to the bones on the skull.

If we just stopped advertising the "immense hunting opportunities" in Arizona on Youtube and everywhere else this would never have happened ๐

No tags for me again, but two youth cow tags in 23 should be a lot of fun.

6 to 7 inches here in Pinetop.

I agree. You have to be a youtuber or a nonresident to get drawn nowadays. Heck, I have four bonus points for TURKEY. I think I'll apply for one of them trophy kaibab turkeys ๐

Was this the buffalo incident everone was talking about
Riesop replied to couesdeerhntr's topic in Buffalo Hunting
I agree. Fact is public land is just that. Its lazy to sit on somebody else's work but by no means illegal. First come is how it works no matter what. If somebody is there first you leave and go to plan B. -
Man five years in a row. He's gonna hate being an adult hunter,

I love that you hiked, showing them how to hunt the right way. To many people out there driving around in quads and utv's saying they're hunting. Well dona.

Good luck. Both my kids had that elk tag last year. I'll never forget them both tagging their first elk. Enjoy every minute of it.

My kids did it last year, you'll never forget those memories.
