Ole Dogman's pack really cranked on this one!!! Becker gave us a call about a lion dragging a deer across a road and we were off. Dogman and I picked up Josh Ebert (fellow CW.com member), loaded our hounds and headed south. It was a textbook race off a fresh kill and the dogs had this nice tom treed with in a half hour. Congrats to Josh for such a nice lion with his bow.

Ha Ha-- Some things are more important than work.................

We set out to look for some fresh elk sheds and got skunked. All we ended up finding were coues antlers, but hey, I'm not complaining We found all three of the antlers on the same hill within 200 yards of each other. I picked up this nice forked G-2 horn from last year. My sister's boyfriend, Dustin Kuhns, spotted this old little 3 point horn next. Then Dustin found what we all dream about, a 53" horn with trash all over it!!! I about puked when he showed me this horn with a $hit-eatin grin on his face. Someone takes you into their shed hunting spot and you get skunked, you take them into your's and they pick up the biggest horn you have ever seen in the woods, figures huh . Congrats Dustin. But now you owe me some brown elk sheds for sure!!!!

I found a horn last year that had survived a forest fire. It was an older antler to start out with, and the fire burnt through about half the mass of the horn on the part that was touching the ground. I'll try and get a picture of it.

Same to you Josh- Just stay after it and Ole Dogman will get you a nice longtail. ANDY

It was a lion for sure Lark. I think the birds had gotten to the one Tyson's dog found and uncovered most of it. Sometimes lions cover them real well..... and sometimes they don't..... This kill was found really fresh and the lion had only opened up the chest cavity and ate a few organs on the first meal..... The hair was all clipped off too, which is classic for a lion kill. And yes, there were tracks around it

This is a cool thread!!! I bowhunted hard for years and never killed a thing. Then the day after I shot my first deer, I sat the gut pile and shot my first bear!!! It was unreal. He was about as small as they come without being dependent on his mother and everyone gave me a hard time about it calling me "Littlebear." But when your starting out with a bow, you need to get a few animals under your belt and build a little confidence. The name just kinda stuck. Shot him at 20 yards, he ran 15 yards to a big old pine, climbed almost to the top, then pitched out and hit the ground dead.

Right on man!!! Nothing like having a good spot to find bucks.

Thanks Bob- But no, the arrow went in just right of dead center of his chest. And I was half drawn when he came around the bush and stopped, he just stood there and took it.

Ha ha ha-- Thanks for all the good words guys. We were watching a bigger buck all day waiting to make our move and this buck showed up. They started to chase does and this buck trailed off over a ridge alone. So I just figured where he was going and ran as fast as I could around the back side of the ridge and got set up. He walked right up and was facing me at 15 yards, I had a little window over a bear grass and under an oak limb to drop the arrow in. It all happened so fast I didn't even have time to get worked up and mess it up!!!! (He has a little inline point on that left antler, but it is not coming off the top of the beam so we didn't score it as a 3x3?????)
