Happy Veteran's Day!!
GHOSTLUVR replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Happy Veteran's Day! And to those in the making........Hopefully we'll be able to thank them, IN PERSON, someday soon!! -
Hi Guys. My daughter Kalyn often visits this site with me. Having seen the photos and success stories of your children, she asked me to share her story with you. She drew an October whitetail tag this year at the age of 9. This was our only obstacle. She needed to complete the Hunter Safety Program prior to opening day, and after turning 10 (late July). Our local AzGFD Officer worked with us and scheduled a local class in September. Thanks Jarrod! Opening day found Kalyn out of school and in whitetail country. She had brought an MP3 Player (whatever that is) in case she became bored. Didn't happen! She glassed with me all morning. She even spotted what she thought was a bedder deer (Mickey Mouse cactus pad in the shade). I spotted a spike bedded down and showed it to Kalyn, asking if she wanted to shoot the buck. She stated, "No, dad. I'd like to find something bigger." Knowing that the buck was probably not alone this time of year, I picked apart the brush surrounding him. I spotted a 2X2 about 30 yards from the spike with only his antlers visible. I was amazed when Kalyn told me she could see the deer using my 15Xs. She said, "Dad, I'll shoot that buck, but maybe there is another with them." At about 1030 and with the sun on the bucks, they stood up and started to feed. Kalyn's buck was with them. She said, "Dad, thats the buck I want to shoot." I was undecided on what to do. The bucks were 450 yards away, and I knew that they would soon bed in thicker cover due to the heat. The Power of Prayer and Devine Intervention is a wounderful thing. The bucks began moving in our direction. Kalyn had practiced hard, and I knew if the deer were inside 300 yards, she would be comfortable with the shot. We built Kalyn a prone rest without leaving our vantage point. The bucks continued to come, 350, 300, 250. I asked Kalyn if she could see the bigger buck in her scope. She said, "Yes dad. He's the one raking the tree right?" Sure enough he was. The bucks continued walking straight at us. I was laying next to Kalyn and could hear her whispering, "Come on. Turn broadside! Come on!!" Talk about patience. She had it, I did not! I was ready to throw myself off the mountain! At 150 yards, the buck finally turned and started to feed. All I said was, "Take your time baby." Boom!!!! What I had waited for since the day she was born was a done deal! I hope all parents felt or will feel what I felt at that moment! Congratulations Kalyn! Oh, I drew a late bull tag and was waiting to see how Kalyn did before I signed it over to her. Done Deal!!! Thanks for reading.

Excelent point! It's about time to rally up and shut these jokers down for good instead of bitchin and sitting on our asses not doing a thing. I thought we tried that by getting out and voting! What now? Hope someone has a good idea, I'd sure participate in it! IMO -
+1.. If a couple more ask, he may get a buzz!!!!! Happy Birthday!

First, thanks for all your replies and support. Kalyn got up early to read this before school. What a great way to keep the moment alive. I built Kalyn a rifle on a budget. Savage 7mm-08 (sorry Lark) won on raffle at MSA Banquet. Cut down to 19.5" length of pull, muzzlebreak and Bushnell Elite 3200 tacticle scope. Speaking of, anybody looking for a no frills tacticle scope on a budget, this is a mill-dot fixed 10X scope with target turrets around $200 (excellent warranty). Sounds like junk, but I assure you it is an excellent scope! I never had Kalyn shoot more than 3 rounds out of the 7mm-08 at a time to avoid shying her. She practiced to 500 and I was extremely confident in her at 300-350 (didn't need it thankfully). I can't tell you how much she shot the 22 mag. We would walk from our house with our gear and shoot rocks at different angles, distances and positions. This gun is set up the same as her 7mm-08 and she was able to shoot up to 200 with it (very realistic practice). I took the pan head off my Slik Pro Tripod and screwed a V Yolk on top. Kalyn couldn't quite figure out how to balance the shooting sticks and this combination proved to work well for her (shot her deer prone, but was ready for anything). Maybe a little lengthy answere for your question, but maybe it will help another parent and child.

HPA Member parked in a no parking zone? Surely an optical illusion!!!!!!!!

Your being paid for your knowledge which includes your honey holes. Kind of a neat trick when a guy hires you one year and you see him and his friends in your spots the following year (unguided)! May be different if you guide on private land only. Good Luck! +1 from Lark, "It's a miserable existence!"

Hope your house doesn't get wrapped in plastic by a bunch of guys wearing space suits and breathing through snorkles. Has to be an ET!!!!!!

Anybody misplace something in Sycamore Creek.
GHOSTLUVR posted a topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
If any of you guys were scouting in the Sycamore Creek area and lost something off your quad this guy may have it. Nice of him to make an effort!!! http://phoenix.craigslist.org/cph/wan/879326926.html -
Congratulations on a great bull guys. Saw that when you brought it in but didn't have much time to talk to you. Sounded like a great hunt. The pictures don't really do it justice. That bull had awesome mass!

Should have thrown it on a Swift Truck going cross country!!!!!!!

Heard about that a while ago. Good to see those losers get nailed. Sure amazes me how someone who is from that community would go out and do that crap. Here's a kicker on this deal. The man that was prosecuted was assisting the Mogollon Sportsman Association with the banquet! Not sure if he's a board member or not. I love the MSA! I sure hope not I love the MSA also. But he was there and assisting. The victim who's camera was smashed was part of our party. He pointed out the subject to me. I had already seen the pictures and knew who he was. Maybe it was part of a community service program required by the court. I hope so!!!!!!!

salt and feed no more in 2009

Its been a couple months, but I spoke with a local GFD officer that is assisting in writing this rule (I will keep his name ananomous to protect him! ) He stated that the wording, "Anything placed in a manner to attract wildlife....." was to broad to allow for fair enforcement. He told me that, as you guys have said, it would be near impossible to enforce the current mineral sites. They are not planning to enforce sites that you have already established as long as no new attractant is added! Looks like this could stall the rule until 2010. Not sure how accurate this is, but, its a glimmer of hope!!!!!!!! -
Smokey Mtn, is tobacco free and pretty good. Wintergreen for Skoal users and Classic for Cope users. Only costs about $2.40 a can. I know many that have quit by using it including me. But I still use the Smokey Mtn when on the hunt. Walmart carries it. Other than that you have to order it online.

General and ML'er tags cost more plus they get a app fee for all of the people that apply but don't get drawn. Gov Nappy takes millions from G&F every friggen year and never gives it back. They have to make up the shortfall somehow. Follow the money. Man i'm gonna make a fool out of myself on this thread. However, I know many archery hunters that already hold a rifle tag for the year, or apply for a rifle tag after being unsuccessful on the January archery hunt. Are not archery hunters as a whole pumping more revenue into the AZGFD than the rifle only hunters???
-
Red Rabbit, I posted again without fully understanding your statement about archery permits received through the draw. Now I know what Jim meant in the article. Jim, you've taking a beating in this well intended thread. Thanks for the post. Just a lot of frusterated hunters out there (Archery, rifle, slingshot, .270's.........whatever)..

I had a typo in there. I know that rifle hunters are voluntary and archery hunters mandatory. Just woundering how this is accurate information. As far as I know, AZGFD will implement changes to archery seasons when archery hunters reach 20% of the rifle harvest. How is this not biased. If 50% of rifle hunters return there voluntary surveys, then we should be able to reduce our mandatory 20% number by 50%. This would place us at 10% harvest in respect to rifle hunters. And why are we as archery hunters not able to harvest 50% of the harvest objective. One deer per hunter per calandar year regardless of the method of harvest. I know my statistics are not correct. Just frustration talking!

re: DEER questionnaires: Mandatory reporting is required for archery deer hunters if they harvest a deer. We know that compliance is increasing over time, but it is not consistent among years and indications are that not everyone has gotten the word that they need to report. Even if it were 100%, we are asking for data in a different way than we do when we send out the voluntary questionnaire to all hunters. We wanted to collect the data and analyze it in a way that minimized any potential biases. By using the voluntary questionnaire for both archers and general season hunters, we have a consistent data set with consistent biases. Using this approach, we can get the most realistic comparison of harvest, hunt success, and participation. It seemed the best way to make this comparison. JIM Am I missing something? Are not archery hunters mandated by Game and Fish law (with the possibility of being cited for non-compliance) to report their harvest within 10 days???? And rifle hunters are not. We are facing upcoming changes for archery hunts due to the percentage of harvest in comparison to rifle hunters. How is it possible that this is not biased? Reading this, it seems that AZGFD is going to either all mandatory reporting or all voluntary reporting. Which one is it? However, Thanks for the post Jim. It does have many good points and sheds some light on AZGFD's method or madness!

To me it is stealing, but is it illegal for someone to take your camera if you leave it on public property? If you some how knew the person that stole it what could you do LEGALly. I KNOW ABOUT FRONTIER JUSTICE!!!!!I really think you could not even have them arrested if you left your camera on public land. Am I right about this. Bob There was recently a man and wife prosecuted in Gila county for vandalizing a trail camera. They walked up to it and smashed it with sticks and rocks. They must not have been able to get it open because there were several pictures of them doing it. They even posed while making faces at the camera. At any rate, they were ordered to pay restitution to the owner!

Man I busted my stomach! Thanks, I needed that.
