Looking at getting a hand gun

you gotta find one of the good ole pre-needless rail sigs thats all ill buy, also the 239 is a single stack available in 9 or 40. actually the 1911 was brought around by john browning in 1909. either way its the standard to which all pistolas are measured by. steel always beats plastic. but stay away from the crappy 1911's with the external extractor, one piece rod extractor is the only way to go. but hey knives work good on cats to

if someone like an XD then they should go with an XD. Ive never been a fan of polymer guns and steel or alloy always catches my attention. sig also makes an SAS series...sig anti snag, with heavy melt dehorn and bobbed hammer spur available in a few different models, which sportsmans rarely has. XD's and glocks are essentially the same and priced similarly i just do not fancy carrying a fat brick around. i agree with the durablitly of the sigs, ive gone through countless ammo cans in both my 220 and 229, both fantastic acccurate and user friendly guns. if you really wanna great gun build up a good custom 1911, yost-bonitz does an unbelievable job. either way the better choice is a revolver for either purpose, reliable and and more bang. p.s. as same with optics and other guns, you get what you pay for.

correct it is currently 6in iron sight. now are you lookin for a back up gun in case you run into a lion or pistol specifically for hunting? as for a simple carry gun XD is not bad but the sig 229 or 226 is a better choice, 40 cal is just fine for anything you may come across, the 220 is .45 if ya wanna feel a bit better but knocks you down to only 8 rounds rather than 13. as for a hunting pistol any of the 6" .357's are good except in my opinion taurus, some people love em but workin the last 4 years with firearms along with building them i stay away. colt pythons is great if you can find one but quite pricey. woodsman in a 22 is a nice nice gun and works great as a light "just in case" carry gun but also can be quite expensive. another idea, check out a smith and wesson small j-frame air weight in .38 or even a airlite in .357 both are small compact and pack a good punch.....at both ends on the airlite.

    Late bloomers.....

saw my first one this year, unit 22 glassin for a guys hunt. it was with two smaller bucks that were hard horned one being a gigantic fork horn. the deer was probably 85" three point good eye guards and looked perfectly healthy to me. although have harvested a cactus buck in december in the same spot. pretty different though it caught me off guard.
  9. now see yall are lookin at the issue wrong, its not a predator whoms population will explode such as mexican wolves and its making its own way back. great. i doubt four to five dominant cats running the border are gonna do much to cattle or deer that lions dont. and as a plus side.....who says the cats cant maybe thin out the border situation a bit??? or at least another reason not to cross. personally id love to get a cam pic of one of these buggers.

    Caliber preference

Personally i agree with the .270 win. 130 grn accutips is what i shoot. both will do it just fine but the arguement with the lesser wind drift on the 300 being a heavier bullet is right on, as alot of coues country can get a might bit windy. the 300 is flat and does have alot of knock down. but if you can shoot and comp for windage the 243 is great to.

    Quail Season!!!!

Took the Pup out for a little fun, dumped 8 birds in about 2 hours of hunting. had to hit my lesser spot due to traffic and time but if the rest are as good as this it shouldnt be a bad year for gambels on my part. alot of adult birds but relatively unpressured only one juvenile.

    Coues calender

any thoughts on maybe havin' a calendar of live coues bucks? seems a bit more interesting to me.
  15. im gonna start settin mine in bushes at local watering holes.....start scoutin out that season for the two legged ones.... gotta spend the off season some way i may have a few patterned by then.
  16. Ok i am disgusted by people stealing or screwing with peoples camera. I am a younger hunter and hunt at least two days a week and have been in the gun business most of my working years. I dont have issues helping people out and i love seein people have a good hunt and experiece. especially younger ones, someones got to keep the tradition. i had a guy come up to me as i was comin back to the truck one evening and ask if i seen anything i told him what id seen and he had not seen anything but proceeds to tell me he has 5 cameras in this draw right down below us and pictures of a really good buck.....the one ive been watching for a while now" so i told him good luck and he left but the whole time im thinkin Jebus i mean dont go tellin everyone on the mountain you got five cameras in a draw, a lesser person could quite possible steal them or the cards. especially when he has a 110" goin past every few nights. on a lighter note i believe it should be a rule to give the camera owner a few funny pictures to laugh at when they pick up their card or film. i mean were all havin fun and i would expect nothing less if someone had found my camera. just throws a little fun into things. but i agree funny faces, moon the dern thing, be inventive but not distructive and keep it funny. cuz well that maybe the only thing ya get on your camera sometimes and at least ya got somethin. anyone agree or disagree?

    Bear track

Howdy folks. Just got back from glassin bears. while i was up i found this track at one of my tanks and it is extremely larger than any i have every seen before. front is the size of a pie plate and the picture if it shows up is with my truck keys in the track. the bullet on the keychain is a .45lc. Rear track was 13" long. any one got any idea on they size of the bear that made this track? ive seen good bears leave much smaller tracks and really wanna glass him up eatin some pears. thanks alot.
  18. coueschaser3

    Bear track

the rear was measured whole length no just pad. so you are correct. and i know the mud makes it look bigger. compared to a bear my buddy just got the front pad looks to dwarf it. his bear was a quite a large bear also.
  19. coueschaser3

    Bear track

ya i understand that, and most tracks that i have been able to match to a bear have been in mud. even so the keys laid out like that are just over six inches long. spend all evening glassin for him, it was raining and the track seemed to be very recent. alot of sign in the pears but just could not find em.

Draw for Archery Deer from now on....

I really dont think its that bad of an idea. There are alot of people who simply pick up a bow cuz they find out they dont have to get drawn and go and wing arrows at stuff. More serious hunters who are passionate about it should know that it is a matter of game management. I am only 23 years old and personally can see the drop in deer populations where i hunt in that short of time. Now not saying that azgfd is doing this for management and not for money in the bank but i dont think it is such a bad idea. i would love the opportunity of maybe drawing a 13a or 13b tag with a little better odds, something previously we never had the option to do. In my opinion if it can keep more younger deer growing to maturity then great. They are a resource that need to be taken care of for future generations to enjoy at the same quality we once enjoyed. And if you dont draw the tag you want there are still plentiful options of other places to hunt with your beloved over the counter tag. heck i would give up chasin deer for a year or two and concentrate on quail if i thought it would improve quantity and/or quality. i dont beleive they are there for us to harvest all of them and hunt as much as WE want.

    36C November Tag!!!

Ive got the 36c october tag along with some buddies of mine. First year in there without my bow, but i got some monsters that are in trouble. Ill try and leave one there for ya.
  22. As to a dog being "soulless" you have obviously never had one good dog in your time. And it is unfortunate for yourself that you cannot see the difference between humanely harvesting an animal for a designed purpose or euthanizing a dangerously trained animal or killing and unborne human and having a bunch of "balla's" who think they are the chit watching and betting on dogs who know nothing better and were taught nothing better than to rip each other up for entertainment purposes and then beat and torture the animal for doing bad. THAT IS SICK. Any human being with ethics and morals can see that. All animals should be treated with respect they were placed here for a reason and should not be abused. Hunting is in no way abuse to an animal, humans have been a major predator since we were here, we did not torture dogs since we were here. As for the people who condone it lets raise the stakes to bear fights and see one of you try and abuse the bear that does not perform to your standards. It takes a Coward to beat a dog, and afterwards he/she will still lick your hand.
  23. Do you not respect the animals you hunt? As a hunter i have the utmost respect for what i hunt and i believe most others on this website feel the same. They put their money into keeping them around and giving them better habitat so that our kids can have the same respect for them that we do. In no way shape or form does dogfighting have respect for a dog, a dog is a friend, a wonderful creature that loves its owner more than any person could. i know i have a german shorthair that loves nothing more than to hunt and be with his owner. Also i dont see hunting as a "sport". It is a passion and a way of life. you dont win or lose. condoning dogfighting only makes hunters seem to have the same "morals" as one who would throw dogs in a pit and watch them rip eachother up to please their "owner". If your ultimate goal when you go to the field is to kill or wound what ever you can, then maybe it would be a "bloodsport".I as a hunter can say hey more power to the anti's for hating dog fights, i hate them to, at least they got one part of their head screwed on right.

    What Kind is he

I whole heartedly agree with ac guy. I spend my summer nights driving roads and pullin em off the road so they dont get run over. also enables me to get some awesome pictures. Opener of bear i caught one az black as posted in photo above, one blacktailed rattlesnake (tend to have a yellow or greenish color similar to mohave yet bigger and different venom) and 9 diamond back, one of which lived in his bush for a day ten feet from camp. and you can bet your broadheads all 11 are still there including the blacktailed which was 5 inches coiled from my shin. A buddy of mine is missing his left middle finger to a diamond back, he still respects the snakes and continues to catch and photograph them. if you do plan on killing them, as hunters, know that there are seperate game regs on reptiles and amphibian. Some are protected and some are allowed harvest. most rattlesnakes that are not protected have a bag limit of 4, and a hunting license is required. Keep in mind fellow hunters that they are a resource and all salvageable meat must be taken home. Killing more than a limit or in a year depending on species is considered poaching just as with anyother species. Keep your ethics even with a rattlesnake, you dont want other people taking more than their limit of somethin else or killin a protected species. Do the same for us snake lovers. also if you do plan on harvesting snakes be sure of the species and limit, you dont go shoot a muley with a coues tag, right. http://www.azgfd.gov/pdfs/h_f/regulations/...Regulations.pdf
