Why are most people so caught up in shooting 300/ 400 yards and beyond. For youth shooters getting close as possible is better for a more accurate shot and a higher chance of a quick kill. 7mm08 is more than enough gun. I would suggest try another make of rifle.

congrats to the young hunter, but do you think its good for a young hunter to start out shooting animals from that kind of distance? Im sure you have practiced alot of shooting but what are we showng our young ones. I thought taking youth hunters hunting was about the experience and the essence of the hunt? Just a my thought. good luck on your deer hunt.

Went out for the first trip of the year. Couldn't have asked for better weather. Nice breeze and overcast on Monday. I wish I had a dog to work that day, but limited out anyway. Got it done in 2 hours.

I wouldn't worry about it. Like before in another thread the succsess rate is so low among bow huntersexcept in unit 22,23 they closed these units in December. Keep selling OTC. The state needs the money and Guides are benefiting to.

No bears this trip. But the Bulls were screamin pretty good. Talk to a few Elk hunters up there that were scouting. The Bucks were were really pressured over the Holiday weekend. But the does and fawns were active all day. And the Fishing was great.

So I had a few days off and decided to try to fill my tag. Got up to the mountian at 3pm and looked around. All the does and fawns were out but the bucks were scarce. So much pressure the last 3 weeks. I only saw 5 bucks and killed the 5th. Ten yard shot in the Dark timber. What a quick hunt. So I went and packed up camp and did some Trout fishing. Caught 16 in an hour and half. Saw a group of turkeys, Elk, and alot of does and fawns. Laying in my bag and fell asleep to the Bugeling bulls. Screamin all night into the morning. Fun 2 day trip.
