Well got this mornings hike off to a good start. I went to check my cams I put out on May5th. About 10 mins into my hike I come to a bend in the trail and something catches my eye. There stands at 15 feet!! Im guessing 200 pound cinnimon bear. I have seen alot of bears up close and been on a few hunts. Im not to far off on my guess. He turned around and stepped into the trail and just stood there watching me. In that split second he turned toward me I pulled my 45 out. Thinking there might be cubs. He or she stood for about 10-12 seconds then walked out into the trees up hill. I then pulled my pack off and snapped a few pics but he was walking in and out of the brush. After checking my 3 cams I got some good stuff.

bear encounter
Buckhunter replied to Buckhunter's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
To bad I didn't get drawn, hes been there every night, the camera is just on the edge of flash range to where the animals cross. When I put that cam up in the tree a month ago I was breaking braches off to set up the cam, a bull started to bugle at me then I could hear it run off breaking brush. I almost fell out of the tree! I guess he though another bull was in the area -

I wish I had a bear tag, I was out in 23 doing a early shed hunt/hike and glassed up a nice bear with my new 15 Swaro's. The wind was blowing pretty good. I swept the hillside with my new Vortex 8x42 and saw two black spots that needed a better look. I got my 15's out and a Bear was lying out warming up. I went to ajust my tripod and after a little juggling trying not to drop my new glass in the rocks, I steadied back up and spotted a buck walking around very tense. The 50 mph wind gust had him pretty nervous. He was just a tall 2 point. The buck was only 150 yards below the Bear. No sheds to pick up but saw alot of critter tracks and alot of deer sign. I'll be back in 2 weeks. Nice to see alot of water running in the creeks. A few more days and the hills will be very colorful. As I was walking around I could see the purple starting to bloom. Here some pics.

someone drove in their and made 8 inch deep ruts in the road. And someone was chasing lions in there right after the last rain. The horseshoe tracks were 3-4 inches deep. Saw hound and lion tracks in the trail. Other than that it was ok.
