That's a great tribute to your grandma Casey! Congratulations on getting it done on a very nice buck. Sorry I couldn't make it down to help out. I knew with Larry there you guys would make it count! -
Congrats on a very cool buck! It sounds like it was a heck of a day. It doesn't get any better then spending time in the field with family and to be able to get two bucks in the same day.....just awesome.

I have the eberlestock X1A1 and also a badlands 2200 but I have to say that after getting the Outdoorsman Pack I normally will be found using it with the other two sitting in the closet. The Outdoorsman is hands down the best pack I've ever used. It caters to the hunting style we use out in the west with perfect pockets for tripods, just the right amount of space, perfect amount of straps to haul and secure extra gear, and very easy to use the rifle/bow scabbard. It is so easy to tell that it was designed and built by hunters that it blows you away everytime you put it on. I also strip the pack off the frame and use just the frame for shed hunting as well. It is pricey but you deffinately get what you pay for.

Great write up buddy! Congratulations again on a great buck and I agree he has "the look"! I was extremely happy for you when I got the text, I knew both you and Allen would have a great trip and there was no doubt in my mind that you'd be bringing home the trophies. Congrats again to both of you.....now get saddled up and switch gears for Mexico!

Mearns Opener - any reports?
cramerhunts replied to scoutm's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
I was down in 35b helping out on my bro-n-law's coues hunt and was blown away with the amount of bird hunters. They must of been finding some birds because the shots were echoing up and down the canyons pretty much daylight to dark. It appeared that the coveys were quite small from what I could tell looking through the binos. -
Congratulations Allen on a great buck! Great work on the story and the pictures, completey awesome!

Well I am finally getting around to posting up a story of our early Nov. hunt. All in all it was a great hunt as it always is when you're with family and freinds but it seemed to be quite tough this year. We were seeing very limited deer movement even though the temps were very comfortable. With no real target bucks on the trail cameras we were going in with open minds and basically hunting for a buck to pursue. After the opening day and weekend we had seen one potential buck that was high tailing it out of the country after it was jumped by some other hunters. RUT (Jim Parker) and I spent the next couple of days pounding the canyons and ridges where the buck went but to no avail. I took a break from looking for the buck and spent a day with SOIHUNT (Stacy) and it turned out to be the very same day that he took his big ole' two point. RUT had spent the entire day perched up on a butte still looking for the good buck and again with no luck. That night at camp I told every one that I was ready to eat my words of not going after the 3x4 that I had on trail camera and give him a look the next day. I really did not want to take this buck as he had the potential to be a great buck in a few years but with time running down and with me loving to eat coues deer almost as much as I love to hunt them I couldn't pass him up. Here are a couple of the last trail camera pictures that I got of him. RUT and I took off early that morning and got into position overlooking the area where this buck had been calling home, it was really windy and cold and all of the deer seemed to be holed up tight. I finally spotted the buck and he quickly bedded down. After getting RUT into position to keep and eye on the buck I packed up all of my gear and made the short stock to close the gap. Here is my set up. Here is the view right before I took the shot. RUT was able to catch the shot on video which is towards the end of this short clip, there is also a pretty good little clip of a lion that RUT glassed up as well. And here he is, not too bad for a buck that I told everyone that I wasn't going to shoot! It made for a long pack out that day but it was well worth it.

Happy Birthday Brian, I hope you had a great day!

She can take the course and buy a license but she won't be able to actually hunt until she is 10. For example my daughter will turn 10 on July 19, 2011 and she will be putting in for Elk and Antelope while she is still 9. This is ok since she will be 10 before any of the hunts start if she is lucky enough to draw a tag and of course after passing the hunter ed class.

I understand that they are just trying to defend themselves and yes those pictures are terrible but I'll trust what the majority of the members on this forum write about when it comes to past experiences. Too many people seem to have had the same or close to the same experience with this particular shop. Just my observation and my $.02, I don't have a dog in this race so it doesn't really matter to me.

Nice pics of some good looking bucks! How's the battery life on that camera?
