Congrats on a very fine first elk! Awesome job getting it done by yourself, it's a lot of work once they hit the dirt but oh how it's worth it!

As for velvet larger bucks shed first and bucks down south shed before bucks up north. I agree that larger bucks shed first but disagree with the statement that the bucks down south shed before the bucks up north. I have found quite the opposite in my few years of hunting them. From what I have experienced the majority of the units down south are later in all stages then most of the northern units, including the rut, shedding of horns, antler growth, and shedding the velvet......... regardless none of this matters as this topic is about a fantastic buck and not about the stages of development of a coues deer.

WOW! Awesome buck! A huge congrats to the hunter. It does look like he has been hard horned for a while now, no signs of velvet or rubbing....weird. No matter about the velvet or what he ends up scoring he is a toad!

Ernesto, It went really good. Our ranch looks very promising with our group seeing 26 bucks and 5 of them we figure will be quite nice when they are finished up growing. It was funny though on the rain that they had, it seemed to be very spotty with some areas getting pounded and other areas were pretty dry. Just being down there again was great but to do it with the other members of the forum was awesome. Geez Phil, from talking with Steven, I know you guys had fun, but that photo makes it look like a staff meeting....you all look so darn serious!! Must not have opened the tequilla yet Amanda Actually that was the morning after! We were all packed up and getting ready to head back to the States......I guess we weren't looking forward to it.
