I'm in the club of sitting on the sidelines but will be helping out a great friend so at least I'll be in the elk woods another year.

remington 700 sendero
cramerhunts replied to 5guyshunting's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Those are good reasons and I can appreciate them. You have to ask what it is you are after and how you use the rifle. I myself get a load dialed in and shoot just enough to stay in good form and confident through out the year so barrel life isn't a big concern of mine. The speed and ability to push heavy bullets are my main reason for going with the RUM. And it's just a lot of fun to shoot IMHO. Sorry for the thread derailing. The sendero is a sweet rifle that shoots great out of the box and doesn't take much to make it even better. -

Bad choice? What? I'll have to completely disagree with you on that note but I'd like to hear your reasoning behind it. -

My cousin has one in 300 RUM and it is the main reason I built one in that caliber. It is a great rifle that is a lot of fun to shoot. They are heavy but that is part of the reason they are so accurate. -
I had been toying with the idea of building a 300 RUM for a while when I came across a deal on one of Remington's new 700 Long Range rifles that I couldn't pass up. Off of the advice from another forum member I sent it off to Kampfeld Custom to have the smithing done. I talked to Karl on the phone prior to sending it off to go over what I wanted done. He was great to talk to and helped me decide exactly what I needed. He also told me it could be 5-6 weeks before I got it back. Well to my pleasant surprise a little over two weeks after I sent it off it was returned to me completely done. When I opened the box I couldn't of been happier with the results. You can tell from looking at it how much pride Karl takes in everything he does. To top it off he even called me on Saturday to follow up and make sure that I had received it and was happy with the work. Talk about great customer service! I strongly suggest to anyone looking to have fluting, cerakoting, or almost anything else done to call or email Kampfeld Custom. Karl fluted the barrel and bolt. Skelontanized the handle, installed one of his custom brakes, worked over the extractor, bedded it, and cerakoted everything in graphite black with contrasting titanium. I think it matches the B & C medalist stock perfect. I finished putting the pieces together this last weekend and am now ready to start tuning up a load. Can't wait to burn some powder!

Finally got out to start breaking in the barrel and I believe she is going to be a shooter! I wasn't trying to site anything in, just trying to keep my point of aim the same and concentrate on a good break in. This was the target at 100 yards with factory ammo. Nine rounds and only one small flyer which was the very first round.Gun is super fun to shoot. I can't wait to get it dialed in and start stepping it out.

I have the Manfrotto 055cx3 and love it. I'm 6'0 and can easily glass standing up with room to spare. Very strong tripod. I upgraded to this from the standard 055.

Welcome and thanks for signing up as a sponsor! Looking forward to hearing and seeing more success stories. -
Very true and a good point about the fluting Hector. Karl and I spoke of this as well and even though the weight savings isn't a lot it does shave some ounces which helps. So between the looks, weight, and cooling attributes it's a no brainier. It has also been proven time and again that fluting does not negatively affect accuracy.
-
Thanks for the comments guys! Hector I didn't weigh it before and after but I'd think the weight savings isn't too much and definitely doesn't justify the cost but the athestetic appeal sure does. It is the factory barrel and bolt which started out as the heavy 26" tube that comes on the new long range 700's. Debated going with another barrel but the quality of the factory tube was good so I stuck with it.

Thanks Drummond for posting it on Facebook. A little update about the companies listed on the bottom of Todd's website....I received a letter back from Eberlestock and they are in no way affiliated with Sonoran Outfitters nor Todd, they are requesting that he remove their link from his site. I hope that the other companies respond in the same way!
