    2011 Archery Pig!

tjhunt2...I usually make the sausage myself out of any of the meat I have, but this time I wanted to try someone and had Von Hansons Meats in Chandler make the sausage. It came out awesome!! I definitely recommend them for any game.

    Quick Shed Trip

I made a fast 5 hour hike today to find some sheds. Found 7 total 3 browns. All were raghorns, nothing big, but still fun to find. Made for a long hike out. These 3 sheds were all within 10 yards of each other which was cool to find..all the same year and all identical, must have been brothers...all singles. The pack out.

    THE STORM!!!!

Just a little update...I live out by Rio Verde in far NE maricopa county and I had 7 1/2 inches of rain over the last week, I know Cave Creek had about 5 1/2. Should be a good quail hatch if we continue with a wet spring!!!

    2010 Archery Pig

I had to make a second shot off of the rock...about 10 feet above the pig. Like shooting out of a tree stand haha.

    Opening day bull

Here is a bull that my dads friend shot in unit 10 on the late hunt opening day. We watched over 100 bulls between wednesday before thanksgiving and opening day, it was unbelievable and with the cold front, it brought a ton of excitement to the hunt. Opening day we saw over 200 elk and about 50 bulls. Some bulls were bugling and fighting which is always cool to see in november. We watched a herd of 30 bulls opening morning with some very nice 6x6s and 7x7s, but could not get close enough, we put them to bed and came back in the afternoon with a game plan. We had a few spotters back on a the same point that they were on that morning with radios ready for round 2, I let my dad, our friend kirk (the shooter), and another friend out of the jeep to make a stalk on the herd of 30 bulls. I just finished parking the jeep to get out with them, got my video camera ready and to our surprise, here came 2 bulls from above a water hole we were at. Our spotters came over the radio saying that we had the herd of 30 bulls coming to us, but from a ways off. We watched 2 bulls come to water, with daylight running out on waiting for the big herd, kirk decided to take this bull at 503 yards with a follow up shot to finish him off. The other bull was a great 7 point, but broken after his G2 on his left side. We knew we could have had a chance at the big herd that had some larger bulls in it, but with daylight running out, he decided to take this great 5x6 that is larger than his last bull and he is very happy with his decision as well as the rest of us. It will be a hunt that will never be forgotten and I was lucky enough to get it all on video.
  15. Great story and great bulls Terry!! Congrats to the both of you. I was on a unit 10 bull hunt last weekend and had some bulls bugling on that hunt as well, must have been the cold front...nice for a change. -Ryan

    2008 Father/Son Success

Congratulations to you and your dad Christian on those awesome bucks. Great story and awesome pictures.
  17. I have just heard today from a Maricopa County sheriff officer that ALL roads in Maricopa and Pima county are shut off to all drive-in access unless they are maintained roads and allows only walk-in access. HAS ANYBODY HEARD OF THIS?? The officer said that this LAW was passed in February and now it is being enforced, the officer is a hunter as well and hates to enforce it, but it is a law and he must. This includes all forest service marked roads with numbers, if caught on these roads you will be subject to pay a large fine. According to the Maricopa County officer, he was at the meeting in February and AZ fish and game did nothing to try to fight this law that was in the making and nobody ever thought they would enforce it until now and it is too late. This includes several hunt units like 21, 20b, 22, 26m, and many more. At first I thought it was just the Metro areas maybe around Phoenix and Tucson due to dust control, but this is the whole County of Pima and Maricopa. This may impact any of you javelina, deer, and small game hunters in the next few months as well as years unless we as in the hunters try to do something about this. Get the word out to everybody who hunts in these counties, I am just furious and I am sure many others will be too. If anybody knows anything different on this subject, post a reply, other then that, let everybody know.

Chris "Chappy" Gravatt finds a nice one

Nice shed! Man hes back to his beard again and his favorite t-shirt. -Ryan
  19. http://www.maricopa.gov/aq/divisions/plann...cs/p28-0802.pdf This is the law you need to read, the one on azgfd is similar, but this is the actual, it has always been illegal to drive off of the road unless you are retrieving game, theres nothing different with that law. This law on maricopa.gov says you CAN'T drive on any roads unless they are maintained such as "bladed" or paved which is a real inconvenience to get anywhere in these 2 HUGE counties. Thats the problem, these are roads that we already use and have been using forever. This will effect us hunters as well as the OHV riders who use these roads for fun on quads, dirtbikes, etc...
  20. As Amanda said above, again here is the link to where the law is. Go to it and read it and it will give you an idea of what is going on. http://www.maricopa.gov/aq/divisions/plann...cs/p28-0802.pdf
  21. Str8Shot, I agree with you 100 percent and I just hope this situation changes because it is ridiculous. According to the information from the officer, game and fish supposively did not try to do anything and that scares me because hunters like us support game and fish and raise money for what we live and love to do. I wish this didnt sound like I am making it up haha. Everybody soon will be hearing about it, I have heard about it from 2 other hunters on opening day of quail season also after the white tanks area was shut down to drive-in access. So I guess we will just see as time goes on.
  22. That was my bad on a mistype, a sheriffs officer, not Joe gave me this information and a warning.

As they lay from the ROAD

These are always fun to find, takes a lot less walking.

As they lay from the ROAD

+1 Hey 3 hundo I have been gone for a while but what in the heck is your avatar haha the truck is on the road....2 track roads are the way to go...only if you like desert pin striping and picking up sheds like this.
  25. After waiting ten years, my dad finally drew an antelope tag. Together we had been watching several good bucks for about 2 months and had some nice ones to choose from on the hunt. I was spotting for him on his hunt and he was able to put this buck down at 200 yards. It definitely brought a smile to our face when it was on the ground. Now I can't wait to get a tag.
