Really solid mounts! Nice workmanship on those birds. -
Yeah Ive seen a few nice bucks in those areas. I had a shot at one last year on my way out after hunting a real nice deer but it was just too dark to take the shot and I passed so there is atleast one nice buck still in there.

No disrespect but I was always taught to make sure of your target, know whats behind your target and make sure its an ethical shot. Im sorry but I dont understand, "I was taught 20 years ago to do whatever it takes to kill an animal". And Im happy you passed on the head and neck shot. To me those are border line rifle shots yet alone a BOW shot. And I realize alot of you rifle hunters like the neck shot and you are very proficient with your rifles but quartering away and broadside are the ONLY 2 exceptable bow shots to take. MAybe thats why I havent killed as many animals but Id rather pass on the shot, go home knowing I made the right call and get at it again the very next time possible. I know the kill is part of the hunt and a very big part but what happened to being outdoors, enjoying the beauty God has graced us with, enjoying deer camp with special friends and just getting away from work and the pressures of every day life. I love harvesting animals but Im not gonna put my integrity and discipline on the back burner just so I can have my picture on the internet or in a magazine and feed my ego. Once again Im elated for you on your success and even prouder we live in a country where we all can voice our opinions and concerns.

I dont want to be the ethics police again But what are u doing "guessing where his chest would be" and shooting through a bush! Everything worked out in the end and Im happy for you but WTF are some of you guys doing out there? Ethics is just as important if not more important in hunting! Im ashamed about what Im reading and the some of the decisions being made out in the field. Dont want to be the bad guy but geez-luweez!

SO maybe after reading all this its not about the yardage of the shot but shot placement and discipline. I don know all the details in the field but did the hunter practice 100 yd shots with a target close to the ground or at a standing height? Thats gonna change the angle of entry especially at that distance and arc of an arrow. How big of a lethal zone can a bedded deer offer, especially at that distance? I dont like that shot, even if its a buck of a lifetime; which to me deserves even more respect after enduring many a hunting season and natural predators. Im tired of us hunters saying "its a world class deer, shoot!" and throwing all common sense out the window. Thats not how I was taught growing up and Im only 31, so Im not old school. Also what time of day was the animal shot at? Did he have time to wait out the deer and wait to have him stand up? I personally dont want to shoot out to 100 yds, ever. Thats the reason I got into archery hunting, the intense, upclose and personal quest. With todays high tech equipement I think we as hunters are losing that concept and I think discipline goes hand in hand with that. Yeah u might be able to shoot consistantly at that yardage but what is the margin of error on a shot like that. Its not a target, its an animal. Miss the target by a few inches and you get a lesser score. Miss an animal by a few inches and you have a headache, heartache, people judging you and it looks bad for the sport. Man I hope you find that deer! I hope these mishaps that we have read about make us rethink about taking a shot and respect the sport and its quarry.

I dont want to give you a hard time and Im sure no one else here does either but the point is that hunting is under extreme speculation all the time and when you do something like take a shot when you are not 100% sure where and what your target is that gives the antis ammunition and makes the sport look bad. It ended well for you and you took a great buck no doubt but ethics has to be number one in our hearts and actions. Even since it ended well this a public forum and everyone has access to it; hunters and antihunters alike can peruse the site. Just be conscienscious and aware of what is at stake. Is one great buck worth putting our sport in jeopardy?
