    Bacon Wrapped Venison Backstrap

Last night my wife and I prepared one of the backstraps from my son's deer and it was delicious. We don't know where the recipe came from, so we are definitely not laying claim to it. Ingredients: 2 pounds venison backstrap (tenderloin) 1 quart apple cider 1.5 lbs thick sliced bacon 2(12 oz) bottles of barbecue sauce, your choice Directions: Cut large backstrap into 2, small enough to fit in small baking dish that you can cover them in milk with Soak them in milk for 2-3 days (refrigerated) Remove backstrap pieces, rinse Place backstrap pieces back into clean baking dish and pour apple cider to cover them. Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours. Remove, pat and dry. Discard apple cider, and return venison to the dish. Pour BBQ sauce over the backstrap pieces and marinate in the refrigerator for 2-3 more hours Remove meat from fridge and let stand for 30 minutes Wrap each piece of backstrap in bacon and secure with toothpicks Brush the grill with olive oil when hot and place backstrap pieces on the grill. Grill low to medium heat. The longer you can grill them at low heat, the less the bacon gets burned up. Backstrap is pretty thick so you may have to cut into the middle of bigger pieces to get the middle cooked faster Result is you won't even know you are eating venison - the kids commented that it tasted great.

    BOOM!

Awesome buck. I love leftover tags and the lack of pressure that comes with them.

    My sons first buck.

Congrats! I've yet to tag a mulie - in some ways I think they are harder to hunt than whitetail. Way to go.

    Morgan's first Big Game

Morgan drew a fall Javelina tag in addition to a Youth Deer Hunt around Thanksgiving. We used this hunt as a tune-up for his deer hunt. He did real well for his first big-game hunt. No complaining and he even hauled the pig out on his shoulders. Congrats Mo! I am really proud of you! Another hunter is hooked for life!

    Redington Pass coues Whitetail

Congrats Son! I am so proud to have been able to share that moment with you. Morgan has been taught to be modest so I think he had a tough time writing about this. What Morgan fails to tell you is that he just turned 10 in April and he has only had two big game hunts a javelina hunt (find thread hunt here http://www.coueswhit...l__morgan's) and this juniors deer hunt. He has tagged beautiful animals on both with his sharp shooting. Morgan shoots a .243 Win in the Savage Youth model and it is obviously very comfortable for him based on his success. This Coues was one of the biggest bodied Coues I have seen in a long time - more like a mulie - his neck was swollen and ready for the rut and he had some major fat stores on him. He has almost a 13" inside spread Here's a profile of him, his antlers also have nice mass I think I enjoyed this more than my own hunts! Congrats again Morgan, this will be hard to top!

    Unit 30A sucks!

You laid out a pretty convincing argument for why 30A sucks. Perhaps that is because 30A sucks. Just sayin' Ask the Klumps' for permission, I hear they are nice folks.

    2012 Oct Rifle Coues

83" buck is a Quality Buck. Sometimes we get too caught up with the 100" mark, but an 80" Coues buck is equivalent to a 155" Northern Whitetail per Pope and young.

    az prop 120

With all due respect, I think this conversation is missing the point. These lands are not currently being managed by the Feds, they are absentee on the management aspect: The Forest Service was created for the farming of trees that is why it is organized in the Department of Agriculture. They do not farm trees anymore, they are in the business of preservation which is why 26.5 Million Board feet of timber went up in smoke with the Wallow Fire. They drag their feet on mining proposals and waste our tax dollars. ABC news reports " Congressional investigators have discovered almost $3 million in "improper, wasteful, and questionable purchases" by U.S. Forest Service employees. More than $1.5 million of those purchases — made with government "purchase cards" — were in violation of laws or federal policy, investigators say." The State doesn't need 34,500 beuracrats at the US Forest Service to help manage its lands. Existing state agencies can gladly pick up the slack and more efficiently manage the land. It goes that the private sector needs 3 people to manage 1000 acres while the federal government needs 20 for that same area. If we are managing our resources just like the G&F manages our game "resources" then everything will be in balance. Vote yes on 120

State Trust Land was established acknowleding that "Land" should not be in the public domain forever. It is the State's mechanism to auction land for the highest possible price to fund education. "The Common Schools (K-12) are the largest beneficiary owning approximately 87% of the land and receiving close to 90% of the revenue," State Land Department website. This is the highest and best use of our State Land. Some of you may forget that without a strong economy - there is little opportunity to hunt. In fact if we are beholden to China because they own 68% of our debt, and we can't repay them - do you think they are going to respect our natural resources?? The issue here is that we are not in short supply of public land - that is a fact. The federal government owns 65% of the land west of Denver Colorado - that is way too much. If we don't start harvesting our natural resources - then China will gladly come in and mine/harvest them for us. There won't be much opportunity to hunt legally if our economy collapses...and if it does everyone will be hunting just to survive. So vote for Prop 120 and we can reap the rewards of our god given resources and turn the world's largest economy around.

    Carmona for Senate

If there is one thing that should help you decide it is Carmona's unwavering support of Obamacare. Obamacare will cost you and I more out of pocket and will reduce quality of medical care. The Heritage Foundation is a good source of information on issues. Here is a link to their analysis of Obamacare: http://www.heritage.org/issues/health-care/obamacare Jeff Flake is adamantly opposed to Obamacare and will vote to repeal. Carmona generally thinks that more government is good and that government knows better than we the people. Flake believes that Government should get out of the way to allow the private sector to be the economic engine and provide competition which is essential to the free market being successful. Another good source of information on policy is the following site: http://goldwaterinstitute.org/issues-cases Do you think that the State of Arizona knows what's best for our state or does the Federal government know better? Carmona believes that the Federal Government knows better than us how to govern ourselves. Jeff Flake believes in State Rights. Hopefully this was helpful for you to have some resources to research the issues that are important to you.

    Not killing big bucks

We hunters in Arizona already have the right to pass on a buck or harvest it if we choose. If one segment of the population wants to pass on small bucks and the other wants to harvest small bucks then I think they complement each other.

    Killing small bucks

Rather than legislating the antler size, If you don't like the class of bucks in your unit - then start putting in for a different unit next year.

    Aj's first buck

Congrats! That's a heck of a first buck.
  24. I glassed up a mulie buck similar to that 2 years ago. I called it the paddle buck because the left antler went straight down and looked like a paddle. the other side was a perfect 4 point. The paddle even covered his eye a little bit, so i thought he might be vulnerable to predators. Always wondered if he got harvested or if not, what his left antler looks like today
