    Guide license?

That is a fact!!! Don't be Star Struck by the term "Guide" in Arizona, Matt.... It is just like my "Real" profession, construction.... Everyone is a Builder or Contractor.... Same with guiding... Guiding is great if you use it to feed your hunger, and help finance your habit.... but it is a meager living unless you do it big.... and plan on having no home life, to speak of.... That is what I figured. I would'nt quit my day job but I am in a position now where I own my own business and can actually have the time to scout and hunt so it would be more of a fun thing and learning experience for me than earning money. I am always helping on friends hunts (doing ALL the work! LOL!) and still enjoy that aspect of hunting and fishing despite the extra work which does not bother me. Thanks for the good info I really appreciate it!

    Guide license?

Wow I had no idea it was that simple. I thought you had to take some sort of classes to be certified. Just a written test does'nt sound that bad. Thanks for the info guys. Anyone on here that guides as a primary source of income? Not that I would ever be able to do that but it would be nice to say the least! I mainly started thinking of guiding to get out scouting and hunting, and fishing more. I have enough money invested in fishing boats and hunting gear that my overhead would'nt be to bad to get started.

    Emergency supplies

I have learned over the years to bring an extra 30pk of beer. The first one can go quick if you tag out early and that means that there will be no driving drunk to the store so more is better and you can always take them home with you! LOL!

    Nat. Geo. Mapping software

Sounds good to me. Seems like that would be well worth the money instead of buying 20 different maps.
  6. I'm looking for something quick & easy to set up for scouting trips and short weekend or over nighters. Anyone have a Cabela's tent cot? They look pretty cool but they are not cheap so thought I would get some opinions first. I think I would get the double one just for a little added space. I am open to any other ideas as well. Thanks in advance!

    Cabelas tent cots

That is what I have been doing but you wake up covered in frost and then you have the bugs and slight chance for rain during the night so I am trying to get a happy medium with packing as little as possible and be comfortable as possible. Bugs?? You obviously have never been to Alaska hunting???? Arizona "bugs" will never bother you again after a trip or two up North! Seriously, I bought a canvas bedrole "tent" from (I think) Colorado Tent Co. and put my Butler Bag in it..... it added warmth, addtional moisture protection and duability.... I'll take it and a tarp any time or place! No I have never been to alaska thanks for reminding me jerk! LOL! As far as the bugs last weekend I got absolutely bombed by mosquitoes in 36B and the first archery hunt in 23 I got it even worse with a waistline full of chiggers! Those things really suck literally! I am thinking the tarp deal is probably the way to go also. I was looking closer at those cots and on the double one there is a support rod running right down the middle! No thanks! I would rather sleep on the ground than roll over on that thing all night! Thanks fot evryone's comments!

    Shot a Prowler last night

My girlfriend and I were camping in unit 7 once when she woke me up saying there was an animal outside. I was like oh okay go back to sleep we will be fine! While trying to go back to sleep I heard something right outside my tent chewing on something. I opened the tent and holy sh#t there was A giant skunk right fricken there! All i had available at the time were 4 D batteries that I had taken out of my coleman quick pump so I drilled this thing from about 3 ft he stumbled around and the thing starts coming closer! I started chucking batteries like a mad man finally driving this thing out of spraying distance! Needless to say it was the talk of the camp the next day! LOL!

Update: Found rifle Young, Az 10/23

That's pretty funny only because you got your gun back. LOL! If you had left it there you would'nt be laughing! DOH!

    Cabelas tent cots

I agree with the clips on the tents too. My tent I have now is the sleeved type and it drives me nuts sometimes when setting up and taking down.

    Cabelas tent cots

I'm not too worried about being caught up in weather. If it gets that bad I might as well go home as there won't be much scouting going on anyway right. I have a small tent but like to be off of the ground on a cot. I'm thinking with this tent/cot I will only have to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow.

Yeah I guess if you were excited enough you could forget anything but only for a short while until you realized your FRICKIN GUN WAS MISSING!!!!

I have had my cameras destroyed by bears too. Funny how curious they are. Is that area still open for bear? If so your nuts not to go set a stand up there this weekend! Those are some nice bears!

    Weekend scouting trip

I have an early Nov. 36B tag and also went scouting this last weekend also. I know what you mean about going down there by yourself. Can be kind of spooky sometimes. I will say the border patrol seems to have really changed their tactics this year in my hunting spot! They were everywhere! I was spotting them out walking through the desert mid day wearing jackets and insulated pants!!! These guys are animals! I did see a few border jumpers but no drug smuggler's this time. If you ever want someone to scout with hit me up, I have all my own Swaro's and cool toys, heck I even have a few of my own honeyholes! I will be down there this weekend also trying to locate some larger bucks.

    Scouting Unit 36B 10/11/08

Cool to see the difference of greenery. Looks like an awesome spot you have there. I will be down there Nov. 7 and hunting until I bag something good! Good luck to everyone unless you are hunting the same place I am!! LOL!

    Anyone seen these before?

I have hunted 7 alot for deer and I have seen alot of strange things that G&F (I think it is G&F anyway???) has put up for research on hummingbirds. Like some wierd looking bird housing and what not. I would be willing to bet it is to catch water and the colored marbles are meant to attract hummingbirds. I can think of numerous occasions when I was stalking deer with my bow and the hummingbirds would dive bomb my fletchings on my arrows and scare the crap out of me!!! They are very loud when they are a foot or two away from your face!!! LOL!

How long do you have to wait before taking the skull for it to be considered legal?

    Draw Question

I am applying for spring turkey, javelina, and bear. I do not have my 2009 hunting license yet so I am purchasing it on my three applications. I understand you must send the entire amount for tags and license but my question is will G&F deposit and hold the extra $54.00 dollars on each app. and refund the $108.00???? I think the answer would obviously be yes because you have to send a check or money order with the total amount right?? That sucks tieing that money up until refunds. I guess the best way is to buy my license before hand right? THANKS
