    What am I doing wrong???

Here's my experiences for what it's worth. For elk, they seem to lick a block or the dirt or whatever. They don't seem to be so picky. For coues deer I've tried salt blocks, trophy rock and they don't seem to touch it. I've had luck with salt that will leech into the dirt such as rock salt or the deer cane (my favorite). I've tried different things like the jam and buck lickers and never had much luck. They seem to love to lick that dirt. Your spots seem to be fine. I personally use saddles and natural travelways alot instead of water due to them being on maps and more chance of being ripped off. My brother-n-law (dds) always told me that the bucks seem to hit the salt for the minerals and seem to quit hitting his salts after they go hardhorned. I argued with him and thought they would keep hitting the salt due to more of a habit. I've had the same experience. Come mid september, the big bucks I have on camera don't touch the salt anymore. I have a big buck I've been watching for 4 years. I've left that camera on him year around and get pics of him alot from june thru august. After that he doesn't touch the salt although he's still in the area because ive seen him. Well I shouldn't say alot of pics. I can't pattern him. He'll come in every 10-15 days. My other spots with nice bucks seem to be the same. Once they put their full growth on they quit hitting my salts. The does and smaller bucks still come in occasionally. I don't know if it's coincidence. But if you watch the trail cam photo forum. Seems to be alot less pictures people put on there this time of year. Not sure if it's because they are out hunting and busy or if they are having the same situation with time of year and hardhorned bucks not coming as much. Good luck

    A few good pics

Here's a few pics. The salt spot filled with water and the animals didn't come as much as the last time. The blurry pic with the buck walkin by looks like a good one but it's the only pic we got of him.

    Cool Pics "Except"

Left my camera out all winter and finally went and checked it about a month ago. It's a Covert II and the batteries lasted from December 31-April 12 and it took 1181 pictures. I was impressed. Anyways, I got these pics that were cool but go no pics of the big buck I've been watching for a few years. Although, I've never got a pic of the buck when he's hardhorned. I have seen him in the same spot hardhorned but just never got him on camera. It's the weirdest thing. If I don't have him the next time I check the cam I am gonna start getting nervous. Here's a pic of him last year.

    Might be a big one

Looks like a decent one back behind him to the right also. Good luck

    Cool Pics "Except"

Amanda, Yea the camera is working out great. They were just regular old double A's. I was a little worried leaving it out in the winter with the freezing temperatures and thinking that the batteries wouldn't last as long and they lasted longer than they ever have before. I have the camera set on the ground and i know it got covered with snow a couple of times and it still works fine. No bear box on it. It's sealed tight and never leaked into the camera and corroded the batteries or anything.

    Rim Roads?

Yea the road to the blue is open. You can get there from the red hill road or from Luna Lake way. Snow is going pretty fast in Alpine but alot of snow still around on the north faces. Alot of the roads on top are still covered in snow.

    A few browns

Was finally able to get out for a couple hours yesterday. Found 3 fresh ones. No sets, so I know there's at least 3 more waiting for me somewhere. Water running everywhere. Hopefully with spring break this week that they don't find them all before I get back out this weekend. Enjoy

    2009 Coues deer

Thanks Charlie, did you ever find your buck? No I hunted him hard. I think he hung in the thick stuff underneath me the whole hunt and I waited for him to make a mistake but he never did unless it was at night. I decided to get aggressive and sneak thru where I know he beds the last day and I believe I jumped him and his buddy at 40 yards but it is a jungle. I guess he didn't get big by being dumb. You find me any big bulls?

Guess the Score - Sept 09

    124 1/8
  13. Finally with 14 bonus points I was able to draw an antelope tag. I was able to take this great buck at 65 yards and my 4 year old son got to watch it all take place from a rock ledge up above. Thanks to Mike and Troy for helping me glass and scout and for the use of a muzzleloader since I don't own one.

    Bears Galore!!

We put a camera out a couple of weeks ago and got 6-8 different bears. Heres a few of them. A couple look really good. The one is really blurry but is one big bear. The one has a pretty good scar on him. Good thing we put the cam up high in a tree or we might have one less camera. Enjoy

    FINALLY!!!!! WAHOO!!!

Josh, He looks awesome. He did a great job on the mount. Nothing like getting a mount back and being able to relive the moment every time you look at them.

    Cam Pics (Pic Heavy)

That's an awesome buck. I don't know if I'm seeing things but that first picture looks like his back left leg is twisted the wrong way like it's broke. The back of the joint is facing back instead of forward.

    Holy Mass!!!

Watching this buck over the last 3 years has been fun to say the least. Everytime I think I've got him figured out, nope start over. I can't wait to see what he finishes out at this year. I hit the jackpot with tags this year. I drew a muzzy antelope hunt, a late bull hunt, and a deer hunt. My first antelope hunt ever after 14 years of putting in and I haven't scouted yet due to trying to keep track of this buck. Those antelope will get moving around once the rut starts and the unit is close to my house so I'll have time to go before and after work. If this buck grows the tine length he had last year with all this mass this year. Wow is all I can say. I will keep you all updated.
