I have been building custom rifles for a few years now, mostly to people I know and "friends of friends". Im an 07-FFL so everything is on the up&up for those wondering... I enjoy doing them and its mostly a hobby at this point but things have been picking up lately.
My question is if i started to build and list them for sale on places like this... would people be more interested in just a barrled action? Or more of a complete gun?
Reason I ask is I just finished a 6.5 PRC and its just a barreled action at this point and im shopping around trying to decide how I would want to finish it, but everybody has different opinions on either what looks good or what functions better then the rest. Im more of a competition LR shooter, so i like chassis, mil scopes with open turrets and light triggers. If i finish this one, it will probably sit in an XLR 4.0 MG chassis, Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24 scope, Area 419 rings with a TriggerTech Special trigger. But thats how I like my rifles...
What about caliber's... Is it a turn off to get kind of a wildcat? I built a 22GT thats a laserbeam with 85.5 berger's. I built it just because I was doing a couple of other ones and said "why not". If I was going to market it, does being a 22GT turn people away? Even if I can continue to reload for it when the customer wants more ammo? Ive always hand loaded for the rifles I build to give the best performance with what the person is doing with it, whether its target shooting or hunting.
Just some random questions for people to try and gauge the field that would even think about dropping custom gun money vs off the shelf gun money.
