  1. I have shot about 10 foxes with mine this year, a bobcat, multiple rabbits, and two hogs in NM. Nothing takes more than a step of two. I shoot the winchesters with the vmax bullet. It shoots 1/2 inch groups at 100yds. I have the CZ in a manlicher stock. I love it, no pelt damage and its pretty quiet. great round. You can also find some ammo for it too...

Hogs on Public land in NM

I had set up a trail cam near Artesia NM and found some hogs. Made a short 45 minute stalk and got within 40 yards on a small group of hogs. I am shooting a 17 HMR. After watchoing the pigs for a while the largest pig offered a good behind the ear shot so I took it. Hog folded up and never took a step. I walk closer and the other came out of the brush wondering what was going on and with another head shot the second was on teh ground without a step. Now standing within a few feet of both hogs I watch as piglets run around nervously. I remember talking to the game wardens about hogs and they had told me that they would like to irradicate all hogs if possible. I took aim and dropped one of the bigger pigglets as they ran by. I could have shot a few more but I had a lot of work ahead of me and not much time before dark. There are alot of people here that know there are hogs here biut not many shooting them. Just goes to show that a little scouting and putting some time in you can have a great DIY hunt. Here are a few pictures. There are two bobcats in the last photo, thought that was pretty neat to see,

    Two for the year

For me javelina hunting seems to be more chasing coues bucks most of the time, this year was no different. First day I got out got into some bucks and spent the whole day trying to get close only to have the wind switch at 70 yards and the gig was up. Next day, hike up to my vantage point, sit down on the only rock not covered with snow. Im catching my breath just looking out over the small canyon thinking there should be deer cruising this morning. Just then a small 3x3 comes strolling by at 50 yards head down travelling. My bow is still in my pack! I get it out, try to sneak around the little point I was on. Look for buck, gone. So I grab my pack go another 50 yards up the hill to a little better vantage and set up my glasses. After a few minutes I look down to where I was earlier and the same buck is standing 20 yards from where I set my pack! He just kept travelina though. Watched him bed at 200 yards. Stalk was on, got to 50, still bedded. Knocked an arrow, ranged him, wait is on... Buck stands, walks straight away with nose on the ground. The Rut, gotta love it. So after that I set up the glasses again and find a about 10 pigs, sneak in and shoot one at about 12 yards. Fast forward a couple weeks. I picked up a left over HAM tag in a unit I have never been before. I am currently working out of town so I meet some guys at camp Friday night to very high winds and sightings so far. Next morning get up and start glassing. We find a few mulies in the snow storm but no pigs. We figure they are brushed up. Around noon the snow left up and it starts to warm a little. So we head to the other side of the mountain and right off the bat I have them. They are working up hill to some of the other guys i camp so we decide to try and intercept but we lost them. One of the other guys got a shot with a muzzle loader and connected. So one down, its dark. We wake up Sunday to sun and a slight breeze. We get over to where we lost the pigs the day before and find them in about 10 minutes. We sneak in, watch them for about an hour and then I decide to shoot one only to miss with a borrowed muzzle loader at 40 yards. Reload, hammer the same one I missed at 80 yards. I guess I had a little pig fever! They are alot of fun to hunt, heres a couple pics.

    Sons coues buck this year

My son drew a 22 youth tag this and after a morning of buck fever and warming a barrel nothing had hit the ground but brass. So we went to camp ate some lunch and he told me that he really wanted to shoot a deer today so that he could make it to a concert the following day. My first response was that, "you will have to hit one first!" We had a good laugh and took off to start glassing. Right before dark I glass up a spike and ask him," Do you want to shoot this one?" He says," Yes lets do it." So we gather up ou gear and make a run for it. It is getting dark quick. We get to 450 and I tell him to throw his pack down and find him in the scope. He is having a hard time due to it getting dark. Then the buck walks out in the yellow grass and turns broadside. I ask him if he sees him them BOOM. Buck flips over and its done. We gather up stuff, take some land marks, and off with flash lights to find the deer. Took us an hour and a half to locate the deer. Took a couple of pictures and got to work. It was a long pack out, we made it to camp about 9:30 that night. He was happy he made to concert and got a deer.

    My sons first elk hunt

My son drew a 22N late bull hunt this year. We headed up Thursday night real late. I stayed up all night setting up camp then set off before light. Got to our glassing spot and only saw 3 nice coues bucks. Went back to camp for some grub and a nap. Got out that evening but didn't see much. Next morning decided to go to another area that I have never been. First off started glassing elk, cows and calves. then a nice mulie buck, then 4 bulls way down a canyon about mile and half away. Looked at my son and said what do you think? He said, let get em! We took off got to 400 yards and watched them feed for awhile and got set up behind the 338 edge. Once he said he was ready it was a couple shots and bull was down! We took our time, made a couple of long trip for meat and had a great time. Heres a few pictures from the trip
