112" Mexico Coues Deer Video
JMP replied to JMP's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
There was footage from several cameras. But the primary camera used was a Nikon D600. The animals were filmed with smaller videocameras with 20x and 30x zooms with a Raynox tripler. I'm really glad you all enjoyed it. Thank you very much for the feedback. -

Thanks everyone. And thanks to Matt/Borderland for making the hunt and the video happen. Couldn't have done it without your support/ideas and a lot of very good camera work by a lot of different people using 9 different cameras. -

Thanks Jay. Yep. Definitely smitten. And on MX too. You guys killed a few deer on the Agua Nuevo a few years back if I remember right? -

I just finished editing the video. It was windy, so the kill shot footage at 375 yards through a tripler made for fairly shaky video. It's best watched in Hi-Res on Vimeo. https://vimeo.com/59329876 -
After seeing kwp's video a few weeks ago, I went and got the sony CX-260 (same camera essentially). I'm very happy with it. There are more powerful zooms out there, but the sensor size gets reduced too much to make the video quality any good. I think the sony is a good, happy medium. Zoom seems decent out to 4 or 500 yards.

Here's a short video we shot and edited for Gila Outdoor documenting our annual "end of year" bowhunting trip. It was a lot of fun to make, we saw a lot of awesome country, some great deer, had a close call, but in the end came home empty handed but happy (again). https://vimeo.com/57270940

Thanks again everyone. I'm currently working on the video from our Mexico deer hunt. Should be finished in a week or so.

Looking to get a new spotter... Need pointers

think about how often you'll use it... weigh that against how important its task is, then spend accordingly. I sold my swaro 80 because I felt like I had too much $$ sunk into big heavy glass that I used a very small percentage of the time. The Vortex stuff gets the job done with much less damage to the bank account. -
Borderlandadventures.com runs a great camp with good land for goats. Several guys on this forum have hunted with Matt in NM. I just got back from a MX Coues deer hunt with him and recommend him highly.

Thanks guys. Yeah, a little buck fever. We first spotted the deer at about 1,000 yards but couldn't get good look at it because of the strong winds. We moved to 500 yards, and I could tell that it's beams went straight out, and that it was a good buck. But with the wind I wasn't very confident in my ability to make a good shot. So we moved again to a closer knob, and were now 375 yards away. But there was no deer. We could see one of the does it was with, but no buck. So we sat. And sat. for probably 1/2 an hour until Matt noticed ear movement between a few rocks. The deer had bedded. 10 minutes later, it stood up and started moving one of the does. I made a shot and hit the deer in the... well, I hit it in the face and nocked it flat. The cowboys were happy since there was literally zero wasted meat. Here you go Kevin... (congrats on another giant, btw) I popped down last week to finish up some video work I'm doing with Matt, and found this next buck. I was pretty happy with it, since I only had the one day to be down there. And both of them together... -
2013 Coues Rut Video

that's some of the best footage of Coues deer I've seen. thanks for sharing. -
Thanks again everyone. Payne, you do a pretty good job at it as is... I'm in the market for that Sony zoom you're using. The fletchings are FOBs by Starrflight which is a local AZ business. I just started testing them. Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to test them on a Coues buck.

Jeff, it was shot primarily on a Nikon D600, but there's some footage there from a GoPro and Canon XA10 as well.

Thanks everyone. Making the video was a blast. Would have been more fun to have killed a deer, but we all know that's just how it goes.
-
would you separate the pack from the frame?
-
that is awesome

smooth draw. good into the valley. solid wall. and is absolutely dead on the release. going to be a real shooter. didn't care much for the massive idler wheel or split limbs... but i got over it once i shot it.

The spotting scope ring is 56mm across. I'm can't seem to find the diameter of the eyepiece on that scope, but as long as it's not larger than 56mm, it should work. -
I'm 6'1" and can glass standing up using the Promaster. With the 701HDV head it weighs in right about 4lbs. I often carry two of them with me, one for my binos, one for my cameras. It's really a remarkable little tripod for the money. It shakes in strong winds like any tripod will... which is why they put hooks at the bottom of the center column. All the components, like the collar, the leg angle locks, and bolts are made of magnesium, not aluminum or plastic like the more expensive Manfrottos. One of the leg columns unscrews to become a monopod if you ever have a need for one.

The AXT Carbon Carnivore is solid. Really cool way of micro adjusting the pins.
