What does an ASU graduate say on their first day at their new job? Would you like fries with that?

That is a super-wish! I saw how much that lens goes for, ouch!!

This thread made me think of something I saw several years ago. In some European countries, where hunting is still allowed, when hunters obtain there license/permit/etc, they have to demonstrate a proficiency with their firearm. They have to shoot off-hand at a specified distance at still and moving targets. If they do not pass the test, they are denied the license/permit/etc. Should we, as a group, establish and perform this type of testing? Just food for thought......

If you look at the bottom right, it looks like 2 tails are making a heart shape, so maybe the 3 of them are asking you "Who Do You Love?" (George Thorogood)

That is a pretty good deal. I bought a similar setup, new, and it was over $1000. Very good starter setup.

I did the same thing and the rule for me is glass using my 15 X Binos an easy more user friendly way to glass up deer and then use the spotting scope to judge buck size and shot placement. Couldn't have said it better myself! You will find the deer with the 15's, but you will use the spotter to determine if you want to go after them.

Very very nice!!

Got this one on Sunday in 19A. It was a good weekend, a good hunt, and got to hunt with my brother. Many thanks to him for putting me on this buck.

If possible, could you take a side by side comparison photo through both eye pieces? I am curious to see the difference.

I bought a pair of the Pentx 20X, the glass is decent, just couldn't get comfortable on them. Just didn't fit my eyes right. Gave them to my dad and he loves them. I think they run about $250.

Was that taken this year? Where-abouts? Congrats to the hunter!!

That's a good lookin deer! Congrats on a good deer and a good shot!!

I would glass, glass, glass. There has been alot of rain everywhere recently and water is for the most part everywhere. If you sit a water hole, you may not see anything at all. If you glass you are bound to see something, and that will get the blood going. I would glass, walk, glass, walk, etc etc. Not only will it keep his attention, but I think it will give you the best opportunity for getting a deer.

Thanks everybody, I appreciated the congrats!! I have been deer hunting for my whole life, started getting my own tag when I was 10 or 12, and now, after 30 years, I finally got a deer. I have had many many opportunities, passed on a lot of bucks, made mistakes and ruined my chance at a buck or two, and at other times just got plain skunked! I have never had a bad hunt, but finally taking a deer makes this one top the charts.

Big Browns, if it helps, that is the same shotgun my brother let me start using when I was 6-7yrs. old. It was very acceptable on size/weight/recoil.

Would you sell one of the heads by itself?

Trophyhntr, I am not sure what the differences are, I have only used PowerPro and Tuffline. But like I said, the "standard" way most spool up with spectra and mono/fluoro is to put the spectra on first, this gives you the capacity, and then top it off with mono/fluoro, this gives you the presentation, or lack there of when the fish is staring at your bait/lure. Plus the mono/fluoro gives you some stretch for the initial hit.

I had one, and it was a tank, both in durability and weight. Once I upgraded, my dad "borrowed" it and I haven't seen it since. He loves it!

If I were you, I would simply spool up your reel with 300 yds of 50 lb spectra and then top it off with a short 10-20 ft. section of fluorocarbon. You will avoid the spooling issue, increase line capacity, cut down on line to line knots and have a more simple, more reliable set-up. When ever I set up any of my rigs with spectra, that is what I do. One good hint though, put some white athletic tape on your spool before you wind on the spectra, that way you avoid "line shift" on the spool. Jesse
