AWESOME!!! YOU GUYS DID VERY VERY VERY WELL!!!!
  3. I don't post very much, as I usually just prefer to read the stories & gossip, but I figured it took me a long time to kill a big AZ bull, so I would celebrate!!!! I honestly was begining to think that I was not going to get it done, but on the second to last morning of this years' archery elk season, I finally got an arrow in a good one. I hope you guys enjoy & if you have some pictures of your 2010 bulls, please feel free to post them up on this page! Thanks, Craig Steele Outdoorsman's Resource Guide

    2010 Arizona Archery Bull

Thanks Guys! I was very blessed this year when it came to the draw & my success. Honestly, if you hunt hard enough & long enough, eventually I think fate will catch up to you. My antelope hunt went by fast, in fact almost to fast. I got lucky with him, as my buck was out looking for does & thought I was a breeder. With that in mind, I wanted to take my time on my elk hunt, which turned out to be long & very mentally frustrating! 375 Gross (374 6/8 to be exact) I couldn't have done it without some great help from my friends & family. I owe them a lot of credit, as they climbed every hill I asked & kept me going when I was mentally done. Thanks, Craig Steele Outdoorsman's Resource Guide

    YOUR BIGGEST ANTELOPE

This is my 2010 AZ Archery Goat & I shot this buck at 30 yards. I will be the first to admit that I got pretty darn lucky on this one. I did not see many bucks with size, but I did have an 82-84" buck within bow range, but as happens so many times he strolled away. Hope you guys enjoy!

    Checkerboard land access

Arizona Statutes: Private Property A.R.S. 17-304: Landowners and lessees of private land who desire to prohibit hunting, fishing or trapping on their lands without their written permission shall post such lands closed to hunting, fishing, or trapping using notices or signboards. State Statutes If it's public land you can hunt it, if you can access it legally. This is a major problem where ranchers have sold their land to developers and now checkerboarded areas are being subdivided. Many of these folks that buy a little 40 acre piece of property believe they own all of the land and roads, which is genrally not the case. Most of the larger ranches in Arizona that wish to keep out trespassers will have it well posted.

    AZ Taxidermists?

Do your homework & don't leave yourself open to be disappointed. Many hunters choose different taxidermists for different reasons. Always!!!! Visit websites, check out their studio, videos, brochures and everything you can find before you make a choice. If you want a good mount be prepared to pay a decent price and always check out the specific animal you want. Personally, I will never use a taxidermist that does not run their studio like a business! My past mistake cost me $325 dollars; I was ignorant. Usually when someone gets a poor mount it is because they haven't done their homework, I have been this guy before... Don't just take someones word for it, do your homework!

    Finally a bow kill !!!

Good Job! My sister shot a buck last year at dusk and the same thing happened. They came back the next morning at day break and the coyotes were ON IT & had it almost completely consumed. IT JUST PROVES THAT U NEED TO SHOOT MORE COYOTES!!!! Congrats!!!

    elk and the rut

How Dry has this YEAR's Monsoon been.

    elk and the rut

Nutritional Influences Not to sure about other states but I know ARIZONA's elk breeding dates are effected by Nutrition. To what degree is the big question? If you have any questions about the rut call up some of the guides that hunt year after year in the same units (Mullins, McClendon's, Jay Scott, & others), they hunt the same elk every year & get to know how they are effected by drought. If I recall correctly, I was told that in 2002 the biggest drought year on record, as much as 80% of the cows were not cycling correctly (per G&F biologist). Good Luck!!!
  14. The trail camera subject is like STEROIDS in sports, people need to start getting caught and degrated before they will stop doing it. I say post the dang thing so we can KICK some @$#! Its truly ridiculious and if I catch someone stealing my camera I AINT going to be calling the law, they are going to meet my fist and then my foot. Yes, I am bitter. I had my first camera stolen two years ago and it pist me off. If someone wants to plug into my camera and check out the pics, go ahead. Just don't steal my #$#@. I have two on a water hole right now, and they aren't hidden, so someone might get lucky. I also don't by this BS about you shouldn't put them on high profile spots or out in the open. Thats like saying, a good looking women that was wearing a bikini when she got raped, deserved it. Post it! If somebody reconizes him, it will be the last time he does something like that. Good luck on your hunts!

    Pick Up Head Law

I know the law has been around for a while and I don't think it will be a huge issue but if you happen to pick up a big set and someone hears about it, be preparded to take them to the site. The G&F published the law in the last set of hunting regs and I don't know why you would waste print if you don't plan on enforcing the law. If guys want to bank on the G&F not writing a ticket, then they are willing to give up more than I am. To each his own but just be aware...

    Pick Up Head Law

Just thought I would remind you all that the AZ G&F seem to be very vocal about this law lately. Take a look at the link (middle of the page): http://azgfd.net/artman/publish/WildlifeNe...h-12-2009.shtml I would hate to see someone get a ticket or lose their privilege to hunt for a few years. Just be aware, as I know we have all picked them up over the years and it has now turned into a nightmare.
  17. They are two different hunts. I am not sure who you contact to get in the 1 day Ash Fork or Williams hunt, but I know that they are going to have a check in on Saturday night. There are a few teams that are hunting both hunts (the hunt around Kingman is not a mandatory physical check in on Saturday but you have to at least call in by phone before 8 PM). I also know you can physically check in at any time on Sunday before 4 PM. If you want anymore information about the hunt (Calling for a Cause) held just outside of Kingman let me know because I have that information. The facilitators of the Calling for a Cause hunt have no problem with people hunting both. The Calling for the Cause hunt was put together because they wanted to put on a hunt where the money went to a good cause for (outdoorsmen in need) but they also wanted people to get reconized for their calling accomplishments.
  18. I thought some of you might like to know about a charity coyote hunt that is taking place near Kingman, AZ in NW Arizona. It is a small hunt but it should be fun and all proceeds are going to a good cause. Top teams will recieve plaques and/or prizes. 1st Annual “Calling for a Cause” Coyote calling contest !!! Jan 31st & Feb 1st 2009 100% of all entry fees are donated to local sportsman who are in need, or the charity of the club’s choice. For further information and to enter contact Brandon Lawrence, at 928-753-9198 or contact via e-mail at goattough14@yahoo.com. I know it is Super Bowl weekend but who cares!

    Great Hunter Gone

I learned of this news Thurday Night. I was not a close friend of Curtis but I was a friend. I have heard many stories about what a good guy and a heck of a hunter Curtis was. My only regret is we never got together to film some hunts like we talked about doing. My prayers are with him and his family!

    Varmit hunting

This is a good topic and it is one that we have to be able to answer to defend our way of life, when it is in question. I hunt predators quite often and I also hunt big game. In my opinion the first thing you have to remember is we don't live on the disney channel. This is reality and we are hunters and we compete with the predators for prey. That is just a fact. Second, nothing goes to waste in nature. Every living creature around that area will benefit from that coyote being shot, even if it is left to lay and the other coyotes in that area might end of up benefiting the most. Now, I will say that for me, it is a lot harder to let a coyote lay but many hunters do and there is noting wrong with that (just ask the other coyotes, bobcats, foxes, crows, mice and insects). People some times try to view animals as humans but they are not humans! If they were human or had the ablitiy to think with logic, coyotes would take over the world. Coyotes are deer, antelope, elk and rabbit eating killers. They were created as a killer and they will always be a killer, even though PETA and other try to make them look cuddly and pick on. Hopefully, every one hear will give you a few more ideas or opinions. I hope you realize that you are not alone, because many of us struggle with killing things some times but that is most likely because society has helped us to become disillusioned. Nobody, values animals and the woods more than a hunter!

    2008 Archery Elk.

Great story and its always great to see people scout their butts off and succeed! Not trying to high jack you thread but I noticed the funky webbed bull at the water and could not help but think of a picture that I got on my trail camera a week before the archery hunt. I would have got more pictures but the cattle wouldn't leave my camera alone. Now the picture is blurred but there is no denying that back end on the left side. Also, I think this bull got shot by someone AZ402 knows. You can check out the picture on Mclendons website but I am not positive because you can't see a side view. Again, great story and tell you friend congrats!! Thanks, Craig S.

    I'm out

I have been a viewer of this forum for some time (years) and this topic finally persuaded me to register. Bottom line : I think you need to do some self evaulation if you are unable to talk freely about your tactics that you used to harvested an animal. By this I mean, if you used radios and you are not ashamed of it, then why try to hide it. That to me is like lying or at least mis-leading because people don't get the whole picture. I believe the same holds true for flying or any other topics you want to throw at it. Some people use radios and some don't (use your scan mode while hunting and it can be entertaining) and it is currently legal but it is breaking the rules, if you enter them into the Fair Chase books. Redbeard, I appreciate your honesty and opinions about this subject. One thing that I will tell you is I also have some strong opinions just like you but remember the only person you can control is yourself. For the rest of us, remember that we are a family and most people don't understand us but at the end of the day we will all stand together to fight those that try to destroy us! FYI- I have used radios but most of the time I don't because they are just a pain in the arse and I also might want to enter him into a book. I am honest about it because I want my integrity to be intact at the end of the day, as that is all you have while you are on this earth! I will get off my soap box!
